Watching a live report from Coogee with hardly a mask in sight and some wonder why this thing continues to spread to other areas.

But, if these people are outside they're not breaking the rules. It's not in an LGA of concern. Or, have I got it wrong?

More so that I cannot believe that there hasn't been a universal mask mandate.

The let's have a different rule for this side of the street because it is in this LGA and one for the other side that's in the neighbouring one, which in the next week or so will likely have the same rule because it has spread there is ridiculous. As is expecting the population of the former to do more than their neighbour is required to, or at the very least not be angered by such.

Leave your home or vehicle and put a mask on, uniform and simple.

I agree with you with regard to uniformity but I don't support masks being worn everywhere. I hate wearing a mask but wear one wherever it's mandated. I do an 8km power walk every day. I walk around Tuggerah Lake from Long Jetty to The Entrance and return. I do the walk in about 60 minutes which is pretty rapid and is good for my mental and physical health. I probably pass by 30 - 50 people when I walk and give them as wide a berth as possible. I couldn't physically do that walk with a mask on. I've tried and just can't draw in enough oxygen.

A nice walk just south from me, with Long Jetty having the first set of traffic lights that I come across on that drive.

I wouldn't want to wear a mask power walking, but hey, I don't want to do that either. We have a lot of bush or water separating us from the Sydney basin, but within that area they have rules set by arbitrary lines drawn on a map. The virus doesn't recognise council boundaries.

Similarly with the 5km rule, happy to abide by it, but the difference in areas is plain to see, with the basically empty 5km plus just north of The Entrance area you mentioned. I have an Aldi, woollies and Coles just inside my radius but some nearby affected by the same rule won't.

The 5km rule is interesting. I've just read the latest health regulation and it says you can travel anywhere within your own LGA but a 5km from your home rule applies if you want to travel outside your LGA. So I live at Forresters Beach and can keep doing that walk even though I end up nearly 10kms from home at The Entrance because I don't leave my LGA.

I dont think that is right. It is the same as the last 10km rule...unless you have a legitimate reason (from their list..work etc) you can not go more than 5km from home.

This is taken direct from the NSW government website:

exercise and take outdoor recreation within your local government area or up to 10km from your home
(from the start of Monday 16 August 2021, a 5km rule will apply)
Unless my comprehension skills have slipped that's saying you can exercise anywhere within your LGA or up to 5km from your home. That means if you're outside your LGA you must be within 5km of your home. Of course LGAs of concern are not covered by this rule.

I *think* you are right. Funny thing is that I copied that exact same text in order to paste here to show that you were wrong and then had to re-read it a few times to get to the point where I think you are right.

Stupid or poorly worded rule. The only reason I can think it is this way is for policing. I can only assume it is easy or quicker to determine/prove what LGA someone is from that address.

As it stands it's within your LGA **or** within 10km of your home, that's pretty clear. What is not clear is what's meant by "from the start of Monday...a 5km rule will apply". It may be that the 5km rule, when it comes into effect, will be a blanket rule without reference to LGA (i.e. it replaces the whole rule rather than just modifying the 10km to 5km).

I'm pretty sure the 5km replaces 10km but nothing else changes. That's the way I read it and I'll be complying with the rule as I read it.

Ok but if they issue a further public health order on Monday (which they probably will) then have a read of it just to make sure.

obtaining food or other goods and services locally (within your own local government area, or, if in another local government area, within 5 kilometres of your home).

That still reads that I can travel to get something to eat at Patonga or similarly distant places as it remains in my LGA.

If they meant 5km from one's home, then they needed to state such.

I actually think the rule is anywhere in the LGA. There is no reason to mention the LGA otherwise and the way it is written really leaves no other way of interpreting it. It is certainly a weird rule or interpretation but the only reason I can think of is it is linked to policing. I know the police have license plate scanners that tell them who owns the vehicle etc, perhaps its easier or quicker to determine LGA than distance from home?

It is very ambiguous and shows how policy-on-the-run can create more questions than answers.

We all know the intent of the health order is that nobody can be further than 5km from their home for the purposes of exercise. And, if that means you cross, temporarily, into another LGA, that's ok. I just hope the emboldended Police, who are meant to enforce this rule, understand it. I'm not hopeful.

I think it's more clear if you just take reference to the LGA out of it.

That's the bit we don't get.. My son lives in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA on the boundary.. His personal trainer is in the a-joining LGA but where they train is within 5k/m of his unit..

Can he go or is he blocked by the invisible wall..?

Yes, he can. As long as his PT is also within 5 km of his/her home too, if they exercise together.

So, if they're questioned by Police or ADF and they say that they're exercising, and it's obvious that they are, as long as they can show they are within 5km of their homes, they're ok. The LGA is irrelevant.

No they cant, Canterbury Bankstown is a LGA with "lockdown" restrictions. You are not allowed out of your LGA in CB regardless of 5km.

Wait what..he works in Smithfield

50% of people in NSW have had at least 1 jab. Good to see most people are taking this seriously and doing the right thing in getting towards 70% vaccinated.

We just need to control the spread and get to these figures.

We should exercise some caution though as the Doherty report is based on a seeding event of 30 cases. We have a lot more than 30 cases per day.

They need to get vaccination rates up to 70%-80% plus say 2 weeks after the final jab plus push the numbers down.

It's a disaster.

In stating all of that if we get vaccination rates up I think we can be in a much better situation come December. If people don't get vaccinated god help us.

THey have changed the webpage from the previous ambiguous statement to this slightly less ambiguouos statement. Now I DO think its a 5km limit and they have added a 5km map thing to the page that wasnt there before.

I suspect that they will be applying the exercise rule from affected LGA's, which is pretty clear: "exercise and take outdoor recreation within 5km of your home."

The circle thing puts where they train with in 5 k

Honestly I don't get it. Why do it. Personally my impression is that it's within the rules. Stay 5 km of your house and only exercise with 2 people.

I wouldn't do it though.

1.Stay at home.
2. Go for a walk every day and wear a mask
3. If you have to go and get groceries do it once a week and wear a mask.

It's not that hard.

If everyone did that for 2 weeks and everyone got vaccinated we'd be in a much better situation. That is also what they've been telling us to do for a freaken while.

The presser is so much more informative with Dr Chant back on board. Little doubt she has set some boundaries and looking more positive. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't see Hazzard and her together for a while.

Morrison threw Gladys under the bus during his presser earlier and whilst it is a roundabout way and a more gentle push, she is still trying to duck shove the issue of not locking down earlier.

Transparency remains a big issue.

Two people Exercising? I've Seen this a bit since last night

We have 2 adults and a child in our household.... Can we still walk together?

I keep getting the scissors out to keep it from my eyes, but getting further to the mullet stage each day.

The 5km rule is for the POLICE, it is not based on evidence or current health advice. That's why Dr Kerry Chant was been silenced.

Transparency and the word politician should not be used in the same sentence..we feel more reassured when Dr Chant speaks !

Yes. If you are from the same household it's cool.
