Coronavirus Outbreak

So as well as China it's also now rampant in 3 totally different, geographically dispersed countries - South Korea, Iran, and Italy.

Hard to see this getting under control any time soon.

Allegations on the news last night I think it was which mentioned Australian universities allegedly offering to pay students $7500 to fly back to Australia indirectly from China because they're missing out on money. Absolutely disgusting if true and if this happens they should be heavily fined at a bare minimum.

Yes, That's insane. I'd like to know how that accords with the emergency measures just announced. Fines at minimum, sackings preferred.

This has been happening basically all month for anyone with a valid entry visa and willing to wait out 14 days elsewhere after leaving China.

Coronavirus is obviously a big issue because it’s a new virus without a vaccine at the moment but to put it in perspective there have been less than 2800 deaths worldwide compared to influenza which has an average annual death toll of 650000. Most people don’t spend too much time worrying about the ‘flu’. Yes coronavirus is something to be careful about but people need to keep it in perspective.

What are the symptoms? I have itches, sweats, rashes, and increased temperatures on various parts of my body.

Sounds like the Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon perspective and sure, plenty of people die from flu annually, but this disease is at least 10 fold more fatal and likely some 20 times more than the average flu.

The fatality rate seems greater than the Spanish flu which was devastating a century or so ago, which it quite well could soon be, just at this stage it has been limited to one main country and only now showing outbreaks elsewhere.

Modern medicine will likely deal with this before it takes 650000 lives, possibly not, but I don’t think people need to overreact here. It’s a new virus so it’s going to impact people more aggressively than existing viruses. Mortality rates according to the WHO are 0.7%. I’ll admit that’s probably too low but the majority are elderly or have pre existing conditions. As for the Spanish flu, it was 100 years ago. I believe the outcome would be very different now as I think and hope this will be.

Probably the same place you got your climate science degree Col. I'm tipping the School of Hard Knocks and the University of Life.

Don't know where you are getting your figures from, but the math from the WHO shows a 3.4% mortality rate of 1/29 cases right now.

It's gotta be the Donald for @colinbh, so as a disciple he expects it all to be over by the start of April and I doubt @Spartan117 is silly enough to believe that crap.

How funny (ironically) that the Coronavirus has hit the US and there’s uproar because you need hearth care to be treated. That place is a complete mess.

I think that Coronavirus is going to do more harm in the end to the world's economies than it will do in regards to level of fatalities

Not phased. If I even got it meh. Everything is impermanent. The death rate is lower than the condition I have anyway it seems. If I get it I'll worry then! 🙂

On tele in the States on Wednesday 240 infants died off the common flu this winter alone .. perspectives has to be applied here . Unfortunately the socialists bed wetters are out in force and stirring the pot and the financial markets are responding !

Apparently once the heat hits the US in April or May, the virus will go away, because apparently the heat kills those kinds of virus’ 🤔
