Was the virus on board prior to leaving .. not cleaned properly or some of the crew already infected and known ? This obviously does not make the decision about docking any easier to stomach ... which ever way this ship was a floating morgue , I hate to think what would of happened if they did not dock and left at sea , the Japanese experience should have had red flags every where . Imo there would of been a lot more deaths if they did not dock !

The reason we have the debacle is that NSW Health failed to recognise the danger in the middle of a Pandemic. Could not connect the dots. Blame individuals who chose to go on the cruise. We know Carnival assured authorities Covid19 was not an issue on the ship. We know NSW Health had planned for the quarantining of passengers in Sydney Hotels and disembarkation to Health transport in a scenario where Covid was on the ship. The NSW Chief Medical Officer advised this to the press.

This obviously does not make the decision about docking any easier to stomach ... which ever way this ship was a floating morgue , I hate to think what would of happened if they did not dock and left at sea , the Japanese experience should have had red flags every where . Imo there would of been a lot more deaths if they did not dock !

She skinned her knee, we went to the ships Medical centre where they cleaned her knee and put some Elasticplas on it.
She was charged $1400 for 20 minutes work, on board.
I hope Carnival/Princess are charged millions for their neglect.

No one here is arguing that Carnival are blameless, Carnival appear to have been criminally misleading in the info they provided Australian agencies. That does not absolve NSW Health of blame, there was enough info to put restrictions in place!

The bottom line is NSW Health got it wrong and they need to fess up and take responsibility instead of trying to blame everyone else. Those responsible in NSW Health need to be held accountable for the blood on their hands. Just reading an article on aussie politicians talking tough in regards to "economic consequences" towards China.....

People on here have more knowledge on this than I do, but how would the australian government start getting assets back that were sold to China? Like farms, mines etc and would it be possible? What would the ramifications be? good thing or bad thing for Aussies? Would be be better off insulating ourselves in some ways like this? Be more self sufficient? Or would it backfire and spell disaster??

Hopefully there are massive economic consequences for China worldwide. There needs to be some form of retribution for the way they have behaved and are still behaving (with the re-opening of those wet markets). They don't learn and really don't seem to care.

It I not so much the wet markets themselves, its actually more the live animal trade that has been allowed to occur in those wet markets!

The live animal trade is beyond barbaric.
Eating bats and vermin etc by choice is also very disturbing and can cause the sorts of tragedy that we are now suffering through.

In most of polynesia, Tonga, Samoa, Niue, eating bats is common.

Imagine living in an advanced country where despite having by far the worst pandemic numbers, having been told months ago what was coming and what needed to be done, the leader and ruling party have refused to reopen an existing legislated health care opportunity for all it's troubled citizens to receive treatment immediately. That he and his deputy babble on without even addressing questions on it is dereliction of duty.

You may not even qualify for a free test that could have easily been approved by the CDC, rather than part of a convoluted piece of legislation put forward by their Senate leader. Worse still not getting treatment could just be because the health care option needed publicly carries the name of the previous leader.

It could well have been however there are no facilities it disembark 2700 passengers from such a large ship.

Carnival would not have known, they did not test for it, only influenza. NSW Health failed to put two and two together, while asking for the swabs so they could test for Covid 19. NSW Health allowed passengers off the ship without any restrictions. Abject failure of judgement by NSW Health.

The Police Commissioner stated there was clear evidence Corvid19 came off the ship in NZ. Therefore to tell authorities in another country it was not an issue is why we have this debacle and new investigation.

The reason we have the debacle is that NSW Health failed to recognise the danger in the middle of a Pandemic. Could not connect the dots. NSW police are just doing the bidding of the govt to try and deflect and spin what actually happened. NSW Health knew there was issues, they asked for the swabs so they could test for Covid19 but let everyone off the ship Unrestrained before the results were known. Incompetence of the highest order.

Why are you defending NSW Health? they clearly had the info to make the correct decision and failed! Yes Carnival have been dishonest and deserve everything coming to them but NSW Health were given the declaration from the ship that stated the ship had passengers with covid 19 symptoms.

But was the correct information given to authorities? Not according to a review of evidence by the NSW Police Commissioner. Carnival was assuring authorities Covid19 was not an issue although we now know was offloaded in NZ.
