the one thing that i cant get my head around (i apologise if this has been discussed in depth before) , but what happens if all these social distancing rules are relaxed, or lifted, due to us "beating" the virus, and we all go about our daily lives to some degree of normality once again....isnt it inevitable that we will get a rebound - or a 2nd wave like Japan or singapore, and we all go back to square one!?

i totally agree with the flattening curve method so as not to punish our health system....but are we not just delaying the inevitable?

or is that really the only true goal, delaying until we find the cure....

That’s is why the tracking app will be critical. If a person does get a new infection they can quickly contact all those they have been in contact with them and isolate. If a secondary infection outbreaks it can be quickly identified and contained.

Yes that’s why it would be dangerous to lift the restrictions too quickly- it would risk undoing all the good work & good fortune we’ve had to date. The goal will be eradication domestically, after which a rebound or second wave is only going to come from overseas, hence international travel will be locked down or heavily restricted for some time yet (probably until there’s a vaccine or the virus has petered out across the globe, or become very localised). Once it’s been eradicated domestically we can open back up (other than our borders...).

The current goal is not eradication, we may get eradication with the measures we have in place but at this point in time that is not our goal. Our goal was to slow the spread to buy ourselves time to implement the plans in my post above. I thought we might move to an eradication goal about a week ago but maybe that is too hard a goal to achieve.

Very accurate post, I just wish we had of kept our data that the app will be collecting onshore where we had better control over its use!

People don’t have backyards mate . And many are listening to the media , agenda driven panic merchants , who just want to drive hysteria for the clicks .
So many people , especially woman , who IMO have an already in built , genetic flight response , just are hiding inside .
To dismiss this , is naive at best. Many people are too scared to go outside at all , which like you said is over reacting , but it’s still happening.
Until the general consensus is lift the restrictions , these types , which due to some mental health issues in my family recently , Im starting to be more aware of , are really at risk.
And as the majority of our nation live in cities , and the general isolation , people tend to feel in the biggest cities , this is a huge issue.
Domestic violence , alchohol use , online gambling , are through the roof. This isn’t good , as a potential on going social issue post COVID.

Good stuff mate , you got me on a minor technicality , I wrote at 12 last night, after a few beers.

This is exactly what I was talking about . The gotcha , I’m better than you , arrogance , many of you on here , are carrying on about , does my head in. And it’s also a reflection of what’s going on out there.

Your panic merchants in your bubble , quoting statistics from the other side of the world to back up your argument.
Even when I point out , how isolation affects people , you arrogantly say this like “stay on your balcony “ .
Disgusting. Self absorbed , and actually dismissing my point because it contradicts the obvious echo chamber you are in . You should be ashamed of yourselves .

No your being condescending , because I wrote the wrong letter , when it’s clear I was talking About the huge affects of lack of Vitamin D . Biggest one I’ve watched from my son is cabin fever .A boy who begged me to body board and swim , and bike ride every day after school , is now too afraid to leave our backyard. Sure he has autism, but that’s not unusual anymore either.
People like @happytiger who don’t care about anything outside of themselves and their bubble bother me. I haven’t posted on this in weeks , because every time I read , it’s the same people circle jerking each other about how right they were , because the US is a death pit and here isn’t.
That’s my 2 cents , I’ll leave you guys be, as I’m sure it’s really hard to hear someone just offer an alternative view , as it might mean you have to think about things differently.

The goal is eradication - of course it is. Those are interim measures on the path to it. People can’t always be bothered writing qualified treatises in response to general questions, sometimes you should just take people’s responses for what they are intended to be.

I agree, there are many bad things as a result of restrictions, but the alternatives are worse and today being ANZAC day, it reminds us of who is most likely to be affected by this. Both by solitude for recent service personnel and if we don't continue social distancing on a suitable scale as things improve, those that served in Vietnam, Korea etcetera and the children that grew up in the second world war, along with the few remaining survivors of that conflict, it often means direct death.

I am surrounded with the mental health issues you alluded to at home and helping out my very affected sister daily, so I completely understand your concerns, but I am not willing to sacrifice my parents, along with their generation and similar others for the sake of more freedoms.

Australia isn't looking at eradication until a vaccine is developed, that is why we are looking at easing restrictions in 3 weeks. If we were trying at eradication we wouldn't be looking to ease restrictions.

Firstly you said you didn't have a backyard .....

2ndly I have been on here from day dot angry about the early actions of the youth that created the complete lockdowns that caused many hundreds of thousands losing their jobs

As for your and your son's misfortune , I can't possibly understand where you are coming from having never dealt with autism as a parent but I pray both your situations improve dramatically asap

Mate , I’m 1 of those people . 3 people I served with topped themselves in the last 3 months.
And there’s are at least another 2 , we are really concerned about , as they won’t answer calls and no one knows exactly where they live , since this kicked off.
There were over 3000 deaths in 2019 from suicide , just knowing from the conversations I’ve had , we all just want support and feel like there’s none out there. VVCS is a joke , and the waiting list now is like 6 months just to get a call back.
I didn’t want to talk about this directly , but I am so concerned about days like today , hence my posting today. And that’s just returned serviceman.
There’s so many vulnerable people , out there who can’t just “go sit on their balcony”
The cure can’t be worse than the cause.
