I was on an NFL forum last night where someone posted that it was good that the NFL had cancelled the international games for this season as Europe is rife with the virus compared to the US.

That is very disturbing to see someone as misguided as that,i can only hope that more informed Americans and there are many corrected them quickly.

Mate 100%, I'm hoping he was joking, but I am not so sure.

TBH, there is not that much difference between the US & Western Europe. US has less (nearly half) the deaths per capita than most western european countries which I think say more about the testing in US v Europe. US are the biggest testing country and are picking up more cases. NY is disaster with about 16000 cases per million population, if you take NY out of the US (I know you cant) the rest of the US is about the same or less cases per capita than western Europe with much more testing.

I dont think its that far fetched to suggest its worse in Europe. ITs definitely not better.

My surprise wasn't that he wasn't that he thought he was wrong saying it was bad in Europe, it was the lack of acknowledgement of how bad it actually is in the USA. Yes Europe is worse, but what is happening in the US shouldn't be taken lightly.

The US are now at the testing numbers that they should have been at more than a month ago, but saw a graph yesterday showing that once the influence of New York, which is on a strong downward trend was removed from the equation, the numbers of the other states combined have still been rising and yet to properly plateau.

I don't expect that they will go down much, if at all in the short term, rather, thinking that they will start to rise again in the coming weeks and possibly exponentially as they seem to be opening prematurely. Expect that their best hope is that the warming weather and extra sunshine will help to somewhat curb it.

I am concerned the US will have a NY style situation rolling across different states for the next 6 months.

I think NY was a very specific case. Early in the pandemic with one of the most densely populated cities on the planet. I couldnt be bothered googling it (others can) but there was a study done which shows that the spread of the virus in NYC was vectored by the subway which wasnt closed down. The study shows that the initial hot spots directly related to subway travel and that the situation was made worse by NYC cancelling all of the express trains and reducing the total number of trains and each one stop all stops, increasing passenger density and duration.

It is not a great look for the PM to be commenting on an independent inquiry. I'd suggest he needs a distraction.

Home Affairs yet to advise whether it will answer subpoenas from the Inquiry.

Aspen Medical hired by the Commonwealth to manage the Newmarch issue, sent two staff into the aged care facility who had worked on Ruby Princess. Both have tested positive to coronavirus. Was it an additional Aspen employee who was asked to leave the facility due to not complying with protocols?

Yeah but they now have many states reopening, yes they might not get as bad as NY did, but even at half their numbers that has to be a huge concern moving forward.

I also believe there was external political pressures applied to a number of departments to let them ship dock and allow the passengers to disembark unimpeded. I have no evidence of this but have heard similar from a number of sources. I am hoping the current enquiry will shed some light on this.

Not much chance of the federal government putting their ministers forward if the past few years are any guide and an area where @pawsandclaws1 also has concern. That has been a huge issue and is likely once again at the forefront of this waste of additional investigation monies, when they should come forward to be held accountable at that level, plus sparing the community unnecessary time and costs.

We need to know just how much influence came from within the Federal government and right back to mid March in allowing the Hillsong weekend event to go ahead, as many of our subsequent clusters and areas of political influence, including the Ruby Princess, seem to have been seeded from Houston's flock.

Interesting information coming out about the Covidsafe app that may allow users with high level tech abilities to track the location of phone their phone has completed a handshake with. This is a potential problem for at risk people.

Harbourmaster rejected the idea Border Force and Home Affairs were not decision makers.

Border Force Commissioner Outram told a Senate Hearing his officer didn't tell the Harbourmaster what to do They've got no legislated authority to do that.

This is the mob our PM wants us to copy, even down to an almost identical tracking app:

*Early on in the coronavirus pandemic, Singapore was praised as a shining example of how to handle the new virus. The World Health Organization pointed out that Singapore's aggressive contact tracing allowed the city-state to quickly identify and isolate any new cases. It quickly shut down clusters of cases and kept most of its economy — and its schools — open. Through the beginning of April, Singapore had recorded fewer than 600 cases.

By the end of April, however, the case count exceeded 17,000. And not only is all of Singapore now under a strict lockdown, but it has the most coronavirus cases in Southeast Asia.*

We're fortunate that most of Australia isn't densely populated like Singapore or NYC.

But, I share your concerns. I'm less than enthusiastic about going back to work in Sydney's CBD and spending over 90 minutes a day on a packed in like a sardine on a train.

I would like to see us keep the same restrictions for another month, just looked at the meat works in Victoria, over 60 cases from one outbreak.

I'm certainly not an expert, nor am I very up to date with the state of our economy - but surely before we try to fix our economy, we have to make sure we beat this pandemic first.

When gradual social isolation was brought in at the start, it was pretty clear it was not taken seriously by some, and quickly we had to go all in because partial efforts was not working. I doubt whether if we go back to partial isolation people will follow it, and we'll be faced with a big outbreak, and all this social isolating will have been for nothing.

I know personally that my wife is in a few high risk brackets, and when they make the decision to welcome the kids predominantly back to the physical school, she will insist on not sending them for a while longer. I certainly won't fight her over it.

I think that is fair enough mate, people in high risk categories need to take more precautions. I couldn't believe the news services over last weekend with the lift in restrictions to allow more people to visit households. Nearly every new report I watched had stories about families visiting grandparents, I though this was very irresponsible reporting because these people still should have been isolating because they are at a higher risk than the general population. It was just dumb reporting.
