After all this time we had a week when we were informed that staff in NSW quarantine hotels were still concurrently working at other locations. Now quite unbelievably, 2 international arrivals were allowed to transit through Sydney's airport onto a domestic flight to Melbourne.

At least they were picked up in Melbourne, as this failure could have destroyed the opening up around the country.

We shouldn't even have quarantine hotels - our borders should be completely locked until its under control overseas. The only cases we are now recording are from those in quarantine or those working in quarantine. Someone is always going to ignore the rules and put the country at risk.

I was just reading an article that in the USA over 100 thousand people are hospitalised with Covid-19 at the moment(BBC).I hate to think how many more have it and cant afford to be hospitalised. They are only 3 days into winter and on Wednesday another 195k were diagnosed with it

Yeah, the Emperor fiddles whilst the city burns, or in this case, the President espouses conspiracy theories in between games of golf as his people die. So often they cannot get tested because of the lack of them, let alone coverage to pay, yet there were still more than eight hundred thousand positives in the last four days alone. A period in which more than eleven thousand of his constituents have also officially died from Covid and going off the much greater overall national death figures, no doubt thousands more unofficially, just as they were similarly lost when it first hit the country and services were swamped.

I see your name on a lot of subjects on this forum. I have yet to read one in which you have a clue what you are talking about.

When I watch brainwashed yanks on the news, and read posts like this... It's easy to see just how effective propoganda is... Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon would make Goebbels proud

I can’t agree. There are still a lot of Aussies trying to get home. Then you have crew from container ships, airline crew and others that need to be here for work. Hotel quarantine is working. We just need to make sure that we don’t get slack and maintain the protocols that are working and strengthen them when there is a breach.

Nah, I can't agree with locking Australian citizens out of the country. Just imagine if it were your family. Quarantine has successfully been used to keep all kinds of nasties out of Australia for a long period of time, there is no reason it can't be used here. They just need to be very strict and discipline with the system of quarantine.

Agreed, for the most part it is now working quite well. The other part of it is when an issue is caused being able to address that issue and that seems to be happening now.

Totally disagree with this. There are so many Aussies still trying to get home (lets not even look at the fact that they should have got home 6 months ago). The majority of people in Australia are grateful for the Australian measures to control the virus and we should definitely be grateful. I also pick up a superiority of Aussies pointing that finger at the US but I feel a critical difference is that there is zero chance of the US establishing the same hotel quarantine system, the numbers dont allow it.

Mum had a phone call yesterday from relatives in England ..... they cant believe how insane the different levels / tiers of Covid restrictions is so unfair ..basically the working class areas are copping it and high society is less restricted .....and they cant believe that crowfs are back in the EPL ....AND HER HUSBAND IS A MASSIVE EPL FAN

Disagree thats your right. I'm a firm believer in looking after the majority even if it is at the expense of a small minority. Had Morrison done his job properly all Aussies would have been home by now - they aren't and likely won't be anytime soon. Meanwhile Europe and the US continue to spiral out of control with this pandemic. So my view is why tempt fate or human stupidity by allowing people in from these areas until either its under control or a working vaccine has been found.

Australians should always be allowed to get home to Australia. Those are numbers that can easily be controlled.

In a round about way I believe the way it has gone down has probably benefit the country. We could have planes full of infected returning Australians flooding in and it may have made the first outbreak wave worse and less controllable. The status quo allows a steady but limited flow of nationals to return and be effectively quarantined until they are of no threat to the community.

Nothing to do with Morrison. He clearly said back in March. Get home NOW or we cant guarantee your return. People just deciding 8-9 months later when their contracts run out is blind selfishness.

Those people are a minority I would think. There would have been a scramble to get all the available flights back in. Then when the flights were wound right in it made it very difficult to book seats.

I'll have to take your word on that. Either way I think it worked out to the benefit of the country. A slow and steady repatriation of nationals makes the quarantine process more manageable IMO.

I dont disagree with you and I dont have a problem with people coming back now, I DO have a problem with them or others whinging about it. They were warned months ago and (generalising) these expats all decided that there was some compelling reason (I assume careers/contracts/$$$) to stay where they were. Thats cool, they made the decision, now its a little harder and more expensive to get back.

If that is the reason why they are stuck, well yes that is their problem. Fortuitous for the rest of us though. It's rare that the selfishness of one/some pays off for the majority.

The son and his family of my neighbours only recently returned from overseas and they have been talking to me about them trying to return since autumn, as the schools were still shut or may have started one day a week with my son home schooling when we were first speaking about it.

I have been watching or reading about similar stories since travel restrictions were enacted, as I would assume many here have as well and whilst some people only have their own choices to blame, that is far from the case for many as well.

We're back in full lockdown as of today over here in Germany. They tried to introduce measures to avoid it, like masks being compulsory, bars and restaurants only being open for takeaway and compulsory masks within the city centres. It didn't really work and now our numbers are fairly high.

Where I live in Saxony we had things relatively under control until a far right group held a protest over the Covid restrictions. It was estimated there were about 35K+ People gathered in the city centre where I live to protest (not a large city by any means). None wearing masks, no social distancing. 2-3 weeks following that event the numbers in our state have skyrocketed. All retail stores are now closed as are schools which were previously operating. The stupidity of these protestors absolutely blows my mind.

It's hard to draw comparisons between Australia and my colleagues here ask me all the time how Australia has managed to control numbers. When you consider differences in population, and the proximity of nations surrounding Germany, compared to the ease of closing the borders in Aus it is difficult to compare the two.
