I see Annastacia Moneyszczuk has brought out the sledgehammer again. Obviously no scalpels are available in Queensland, only the sledgehammer in the toolbox.

I expect such a decision to be almost universally welcomed around the nation, as such strains must be removed quickly.

Unfortunately, as the number of infected return travellers increases, breaches will also increase. Even though this strain it is more contagious I’m not convinced that the sledgehammer approach will be effective at removing it in the long term. It is more likely perimeter wall breaches will occur and at an increasing rate so other methods need to be developed. Maybe it’s time to restrict flights from the UK even further and to have quarantine out of the major cities.

My view on quarantine remains that it should have been centrally run by the federal government who's responsibility it has always been from day dot.

Agree. Again though, we are Girt by Sea and having quarantine in major cities is just asking for the inevitable to happen.

We have Xmas island and the huge facility in NT why on earth would you not use them . The country could be virus free by now .. nothing’s perfect but all infections in the last 4 months have been from overseas travellers . This new strain is super infectious and if it gets out all hell will break loose ., politicians are gambling with this one Right and Left of politics.

Heard about Ivomectin being the best solution for Covid from an Aussie doctor about 4 months ago, he was quickly shut down. It’s not in the pharmaceutical companies best interests for everyone to use a drug that’s already so available, they must make their millions (and inflate their egos) rolling out a largely untested new vaccine.

I can’t believe they are holding back the real solution to this pandemic and playing with people’s lives in such an unprecedented time as this. It’s disgusting!

Not calling your claim either way Spud, but I would have thought it would have been in the pharma companies best interests to use an already existing available drug because there is no R&D layout? The outlay for R&D on drugs, especially one required in a hurry like the vaccine for COVID-19 would be ridiculously high. You will still distribute the drugs to any infected patients. If anything, if Ivomectin was merely a way to treat COVID-19 rather than vaccinate against it, it would be in the pharma companies best interests to push for treatment drugs rather than develop a vaccine. Virus runs rampant and you can push as many batches as you like to merely treat it rather than inoculate against it. Perpetual money spinner.

Yeah I see your point CB, but I’m of the belief that the creation, patenting and worldwide rollout of a brand new vaccine will generate a lot more revenue for the pharmaceutical companies in the long run, not to mention it will give them just that little of control also. They are looking at the big picture, imo.

You've got to highly sceptical when you hear about a one-off doctor being 'shut down'.

It's far more likely that some business council lobby group that wanted to end restrictions rolled out a random bloke to milk a borderline study for all it was worth (see the facts about that one here https://www.nps.org.au/Ivermectin (a drug which the clinical evidence shows is not statistically effective)-and-covid-19)

The 'shut down' thing was most like someone like the AMA telling the bloke to pull his head in and stop pushing untested medicines.

I did.

He seemed to believe in it pretty strongly but wanted to shortcut all the usual safety checks that medications have gone through for decades.

And a vaccine produced in less than six months isn’t a shortcut?

I think his major gripe is that the NIH refuse to even consider the use of Ivermectin (a drug which the clinical evidence shows is not statistically effective) (a known drug) despite its apparent potential to prevent the spread of COVID-19! And you have to ask why.

He and his colleagues aren’t just bozos with an agenda, they are world renowned medicos and scientists who have been at the coal face of this disease since its inception, treating the dying people and constantly researching, checking and testing for a solution. I know where I would rather put my faith.
