With the higher number of infectious in community numbers I am starting to wonder now if people are honestly jack of the government. Are they at the point where they are refusing to take a personal economic hit because the state didn't do what was needed when it was necessary in locking down the Eastern Suburbs?

It is easy for me to comment from my position as I can work from home, have everything I need and am in an area with no recorded cases.

It would be much harder for those living week to week being told that they cannot leave for work and have to take leave, or if they are casual, stay home without pay and try to apply for government support. JobKeeper would likely still not be enough for many, while the areas that started this outbreak (who are the demographic who could handle a hard lockdown,) were flogged with a wet lettuce leaf and not locked down properly and facilitated the spread.

I’m still working.. government can get bent !
I’m not dropping 3-3.5k a week just because they can’t get there shit together.

Even got pulled over just after Faulco station yesterday arvo ..
cops can’t do Jack if you give them a reasonable excuse !

Thing is that that you don't need to go to work to survive and can likely get by with the current payments (which I have long stated is inadequate) and as a tradie have been one of the lucky ones that have until now been basically unaffected.

Every single person that does similarly potentially makes the collective a much bigger risk and played a part in what got us to this point and is making the lockdown last longer.

Sure, I strongly blame the government for also having us here, but community needs to be the driver for us all to get out of this and every action of greed also keeps those doing the right thing in lockdown longer.

I’m working on 2 empty townhouse’s atm ..
I don’t see any issue .
I’ve had all materials delivered to the site .
I do the right thing wearing masks and QR code’s when buying fuel .
I’m booked in for the vax .
I go straight to work then straight home
I’m not receiving any handouts and I don’t want any either ..
it’s my old mans 75th today ..will I see him .. no I won’t. ! I’ll call him later !

Scomo and Gladys can shove it ..
And the police can’t do shit tbh !

We’re all in this together.. NOT .. different rules for different folks !

And as for calling it greed you can shove that as well ..

  couldn't agree more...

Got my shop in Artarmon. Online orders, click & collect for now.

Only way I'll shut down is if the gov't foots the bill and covers everything. Until then they can get stuffed.

The current handouts wouldn't make a dent in my overheads.
Still paying my staff to come in and do their normal stuff so the business stays profitable.

Again, these state premiers and health advisers are a bunch of flogs. I'm pretty sure they're still getting paid during these lockdowns whilst at the same time telling people to stay home and forfeit their paychecks for the greater good...

Yep .. we’re governed by a bunch of useless flogs mate !
Good luck with the business champ !

Spending more time in the shop now than I would under normal circumstances lol...
Can't be with the missus all day every day. Would drive me insanely bonkers

A mate has been called up from army reserves for duty from 1 August so something is going to happen and was told lockdown till 24 August

No doubt there is a rising level of resentment in the community and the seeding of some if it almost certainly relates to disparities, perceived or otherwise.

The assistance for many is still inadequate and being rolled out much slower than necessary for some you alluded to above to survive.

We are a wealthy country that can afford this and for mine it is imperative that we as a community that are relieved by the spending must also be the ones to repay a good portion of it as things return. We must not allow this to become a burden on our children and use the opportunity to enact structural funding change, with the next round of legislated tax cuts the first to culled as the first action.

The lockdowns can be easily solved by forcing politicians and public service involved including “medical advisors” to a job keeper for the duration of the lockdown!

as a public servant why would i go to work as an essential worker, risk getting covid, spreading it to my household including my pregnant wife if im just going to get the same pay as being on the job keeper allowance? i just wont come into work, your essential service will break down
people hate on public servant because they have a secure job but the pay is trash, they aren't the ones making a huge salary that can afford a pay hit; the higher end tax bracket are the ones who should be hit this time next year to start offsetting the huge toll job keeper is going to have on the budget for decades to come

When the private sector is impacted by Covid, it is the $ from public servants (Federal, State and also Local Govt) which sustains the economy.

How hard is if for some members of the community to understand that staying at home and not visiting relatives and friends means just that.

Interesting to see some of the countries that were going to just live with it are bringing back differing levels of restrictions. Singapore being just one of them.

A smart person would start stocking up on essentials no need to plunder but increase certain everyday items .

Can't believe on of the most densely populated nations on the planet was going to try that. Singapore has 5.6 million people living on 700km².

Absolutely nuts.

A mate of a mate? Who had a mate who read on a blog?

In somewhat positive news, vaccination take up appears to be accelerating, with a million doses administered in the last 8 days.

Wonder if there's any news on the supposed rushed in Pfizer doses. I have to wait until 7th October for my first dose.

Yes and there were plenty of social commentators ( always wondered how you become one of them) having a crack and saying if they are doing it we should too. Of course now they would be backtracking as fast as Fox journalist from a fact.

I don't believe this at all. Vaccination is the end game. Myself and my wife are fully vaccinated (Pfzier). My parents are fully vaccinated (AZ).

I have 3 kids. I think the oldest two should be fully vaccinated by Christmas. I also have a 10 year old. I'm hopeful the 10 yo will be able to be vaccinated soon as well.

Once that happens I reckon we are good to go. The vaccines are working great.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/vaccines-highly-effective-against-hospitalisation-from-delta-variant

I'm honestly thinking this is over very soon for those smart and educated enough to use facts rather than nonsense when making decisions.

Sure more people who love conspiracy theories and aren't logical are going to die but what do you do. The real problem is the small number of people who for whatever reason can't get vaccinated but again I don't know what you can do.
