90% double dose rate has slimmed in to the 9th November, a week earlier than originally anticipated.

I hope the whole of Australia gets to this level. It'll mean we will be one of the best performing countries in relation to how we've managed the pandemic.

Singapore are saying that their vaccination rate, which is 80% of total population, has not been sufficient to curtail the spread of the Covid Delta variant.

They've had 58 deaths. It's basically insignificant. We have 18k deaths from heart disease each year.

I suppose the article is correct in that opening up will lead to more cases and more cases leads to more hospitalizations and deaths. The question is what is society prepared to accept and that goes hand in hand with how many people refuse to get vaccinated.

Of course our population density is much lower than Singapore’s , so that will help to some extent.

We're a giant country but for some reason we all cram ourselves into Sydney, Melbourne and SE Queensland, so in effect we're probably not that dissimilar to Singapore?

2 days to hit the 80% single dose target, 16 days until 90%.

I just had my second AZ at the local chemist, brought forward one week. I didn't feel the needle this time and thanked the Chemist for her skill.

I'm a Victorian in CBD radius, and I'm over it completely.

Getting vaccinated next week 1st dose of Pfizer, earliest i could get. But yea, the sentiment of "doing the right thing" is out of the window atm down here. People have had enough, rightfully so.
Hopefully those who read this understand that i'm not dismissing Covid, or dismissing all the safety measures in place, but i have no ill will to any who dont wear a mask, or who aren't following restrictions. I just dont care tbh. People will do what they want and i dont judge them for it.

btw, I'm also a sole trader that hasnt been able to run my business properly for 19months....before the pitchforks come at me...

My take from the article , assuming the details are correct, is that even after we hit our target vax rates, (about 64% to 67% of **total population**) Covid 19 will still be circulating widely in the community and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Many of us who have been vaccinated will contract the disease but, in most cases, with minor, manageable symptoms. For a small minority of vaccinated people the outcome will be more severe.
Unvaccinated people will remain at serious risk, mitigated to some extent by virtue of so many others in the community choosing to be vaccinated.
The health systems will continue to be under stress, with all the flow on effects that has, including economic, staff welfare and from the perspective of clogging up the system and impacting elective procedures
I think the government's vax target is too low for a complete opening up, though, to be fair, they haven't yet told us how far down that path they are willing to go.
Deaths are not the only impact from Covid. They just stand out fairly starkly.

Yeah that tough. No pitchforks from me.
Not too bad for me, I'm retired, so it doesn't affect my income, but one of my sons opened up a new business (as a sole trader) just a couple of weeks before the first lockdown.
No financial history, so no jobkeeper and no unemployment benefits.
I do my best to follow the rules but I can understand how difficult it must be for people in your position.

That's true, but all the same, not too many quarter acre blocks in Singapore.

Unfortunately not too many left in Sydney either haha! But yeah I take your point.

A real concern is how breast screening and other screening for other cancers have been stopped in NSW.. moving forward there could be more deaths due to non screening for these cancers than will die from COVID!

Totally agree with your post. My take on opening up is that there may be on-going restrictions for a long time. Opening up now to me isn't like prior to the pandemic and especially Delta.

All it takes is a weekend without the torture of watching the Tigers, and everybody is happy and friends again 🙂

SMH reporting Covid has entered the Frederick House facility in Waterloo. 18 men and two staff have tested positive. The facility is run by the St Vincent de Paul NSW and caters for elderly men at risk of homelessness. The follows news from Dr Chant that Covid is spreading through the low socio-economic areas of the inner city

Cant wait for the state to hit 70%

Im starting to go crazy from boredom

My life is reading the forum, playing music and bike rides.

But isn't that what it was pre-covid?

Minus the ride yes lol

And the unprovoked magpie attacks .....

I have managed to avoid being swooped so far this spring.

Glad you’ve left the nice Magpies alone this year :????

Norman Swan on ABC radio described over 60s waiting for Pfizer as "boomer entitlement".

Im not over 60......but I think that description and that mindset is disgraceful.

What anybody puts in their body and what they do for their own health is intensely personal and their own choice and it is important and for anybody to consider it entitlement let alone denigrate other people as entitled for simply wanting the best for themself is absolutely elitist and disguting IMO.

The message has been and should for people to speak to doctors and do their research and really look into their options and decide on what is right and best for them.
