That's not true, and the suggestion that suicides have increased is misinformation designed to garner an emotive reaction (sadly this has been used by others in this thread, like the claims of 'Queensland residents are being locked out of their own state!')

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare record and report on this data annually; as @mike mentioned the rate of suicides annually has actually **dropped** slightly since the pandemic began.

NSW have also had mental health experts involved in their press conferences on numerous occasions throughout this lockdown. One of the best press conferences involved a discussion about the mental health of children during this time and steps parents can take and behaviours they can look out for to better deal with the mental health issues the lockdown was causing to their children.

Hopefully the 'new normal' is in full swing by next year...mercifully kids are pretty resilient; I probably feel more sympathy for the home-schooling parents.

Pretty crap time for teens/young adults (especially those without gainful employment) too.

My 8 year old daughter has really struggled, hasn't played with another kid in 3 months. Her only playmate has been her 42 year old dad.

Yeah my son has battled with it too. The school have been great organising Zoom catch ups with classmates but for single kids it's really been tough.

The positive that I take out of it is that I will never get to have this sort of time with her again. I got to teach her and work on some things that a lot of teachers don't teach as well as I do, we got to play and enjoy each others company in a way that I can't see us ever having again. So for all our struggles through this there have been some parts that I will cherish for a very long time. I was very lucky for her to be at an age where she still enjoys my company, even though everyday she tells me she is sick of it. Those who know me well on here know that I am a smart arse that is always taking the piss, well my 8 year old is just like me. Probably the best example of that is the fact that for 4 years she has refused to tell me that she loves me because she thinks it is funny.

Not because she thinks it's funny..

The school holidays have been great for me. I've been able to get away from the computer and spend time with the boy in the yard throwing a ball or watching him learn to ride a bike.

My daughter and I have been doing 6-10km a day lol

Suicides in the last 12 months are below average.

Lovely photos of healthy Queenslanders enjoying their freedom. (They only had to wear masks when they left their seats to go buy drinks or go to the toilet)
Now pop up a couple of photos of people dying in NSW hospitals.

Disgusting post.

Save the outrage for those who did this to your fine state.
It's funny how people get outraged over comments on the internet, yet just accept decisions that put millions of people in mortal danger.
Either way, I'm out.
Self ban.
Righteous indignation makes me ill.

You keep contributing your one word commentaries. It's your niche.

Mate gloating over how well your state has done to this point by pointing out people dying of Covid is disgusting. Justify it all you like it is crook mate. This isn't state of origin, this is your fellow country citizens dying.

When I read @Dwight-Schrute post I actually took it that he was at worst, being a bit sarcastic in using the example of the non wearing of masks by people in Qld/NSW/everywhere being at least part of the reason why people were dying from Covid.
Maybe his post is a perfect example of two people reading something and interpreting it differently, and I am NOT having a shot at you Cochise.
So unlike you, I dont see his post as being disgusting at all and I even up-voted his post.

While I understand and emphasise with you we need to stick to some facts on suicide. The figures below were taken from the Australian Suicide & self-harm monitoring website.

1979: 1,591 (10.96 per 100,000 of population 14.51M)

2019: 3,107 (12.25 per 100,000 of population 25.37M)

2020: 3,139 (12.1 per 100,000 of population)

So in actual fact the suicide rate in 2020 went down ever so slightly compared to 2019.

Good choice of word by you @mike with "emphasise".

Weddings are a mingling free for all.

Thanks @happy_tiger I will say that the only day she will say it to me is Fathers Day lol, Not my birthday, not Christmas but i get Fathers Day. Everytime I tell her that I love her I get a cheeky grin and the line "I am not telling you" Has been happening since she was 4. I absolutely love that she has that in her personality.

Those easing of restrictions mean I am not stuck at home and can see my parents, go to the pub etc. Also signifies the end of mass lockdowns.

Sounds like freedom to me.

A little sad see that the political messaging from the federal government and it's media mouthpieces have again been successful in sewing division over the last few pages.

Please don’t fall for this crap and start bickering with others from different states as a result. Again, we must not allow ourselves to get caught up by the propaganda wave that is targeting us for their gain by preying on the depression and resentment in communities and getting us to project it on others rather than them.

Instead look to Tasmania with it's opening up requirements and SA with similar border restrictions to those constantly in the news cycle and ask yourself why you are not hearing about them. Just like the algorithms on your social media, it is targeted to take you and your mind where they want it to be and works best for them.
