Cricket Season Thread

Wow. I didn't expect day 3 to be like that.

The Poms are ridiculously rattled. Bell and Pieterson are the only players who can hurt us at the moment and Siddle has Pieterson's measure. Cook is struggling, Carberry is honest but I'm not sure whether he can lead them out of this mess. Root seems like it's always a matter of time before his wicket comes. Prior can't do anything right and the tail is scared of Johnson.

Johnson is in the zone. Batsman find themselves in it time to time but I rarely see a bowler in it. Let's hope it lasts the whole series.

Still early days , but have we improved that much or have the Poms gone backwards by the same amount ??

Both. Form, momentum and confidence play big roles and I can't see the English getting back into this series. A whitewash is now a possibility and to say that a couple of weeks ago, you would be entered into a mental asylum.

Very sporting declaration by the Australians this morning

I was sure they would bat for another hour

It gives the Poms a chance if they are good enough (which I highly doubt )

I think the declaration had something to do with the possible poor weather so Warners possible hundred was sacrificed.

Johnson is having a charmed run, shame the bloke is so unlikeable. Did they say yesterday that he has the 10th most Test wickets in Australian history? FMD! Would hate to see how many wickets he would get bowling to someone who could bat properly. Viv, Haynes, Grenidge etc would cart him all over the park. That is the main reason why stats and records are worthless these days, the teams of the modern era wouldn't get within cooee of Windies, Aussies, Pom, NZ, India, Pakistan teams of 30 years ago. It is a joke TBH.

You act as if it's his fault.
Believe what you like but 90% of sports are not comparable to even 15 years ago. Think of all the analysis and sports science.
Same with League

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. The game is no where near as strong as it was 30 years ago? And if so this is Mitchell's fault because? He's got many batman out who would be considered class in any era.

Don't stress, was just making the statement that stats, records etc are a waste of time due to the fact that quality of opposition can't really be factored in. Murali regularly putting the cleaners through Bangladesh and the like is a case in point.
Johnson wouldn't trouble competent batsman, so many of his wickets are the lucky end result of a bad ball. Thats just the way it is these days, in all sports as you say, but especially in cricket.

Would anybody honestly say that Johnson is in the top 10 best Aussie Test bowlers of all time?….not bloody likely. It's not his fault, you try to dismiss whatever duds are put in front of you.

No bowler is that lucky to get so many of his wickets to bad balls. It's test cricket. Pressure to score and wide sucker balls are some tactics teams use to buy a wicket. The variation of a lefty to two right arm bowlers is a handy thing to have.

I don't know if he's in the top 10\. I'm trying to think of another fast bowler that has had as many fast destructive spells. It's not consistent by any means otherwise he'd be a bowling freak. Dennis Lillee called him a once in a generation bowler and his stats speak for that in my mind.

They finish the day 6 down and it will be over in all likelihood by lunch tomorrow. The Aussies to be 2-nil up after Adelaide. Who would have thought at the start of the series.

To be fair, it's the same England side that took him to task last time they were here. Credit where credit is due, he's bowling well (that is coming from someone who didn't want him in the side in the first place.)
