Cricket Season Thread

What is it about the selectors refusing to try for a bit of youth in the team. Although I feel for the likes of Hodge missing out yet again, there has got to be some talent under the age of thirty around this country that's worth taking a gamble on. Let's face it, Shaun Tait is the biggest gamble in Australian cricket anyway. The man's more fragile than Bruce Reid!
For the life of me I can't fathom how these selectors can treat Hauritz basically like a child all summer, leave him out of every single international game, and then pick him in the world cup squad!

Don't ever let these selectors near out footy side please! They're all nuts.

Hussey is out of the world cup, replaced by Sean Marsh. With Mr Cricket gone I can't see us winning it, Hodge, Ferguson and Christian are all very unlucky to miss out. Hastings and Dave Hussey shouldn't be anywhere near the side.

I would be happy with this 11, but the 15 man squad is stupid.

1\. Haddin (looked uncomfortable last game, but he shld be sweet. needs to play a Gilly-like role here)
2\. Watson
3\. Ponting
4\. Clarke (needs to get into form)
5\. Hussey (if he is unavailable, then I guess Australia is stuffed. no one can replace him.)
6\. White
7\. Hastings (a very smart cricketer, needs to work on his technique though, but a possible replacement for Hussey)
8\. Johnson
9\. Hauritz
10\. Lee
11\. Bollinger

I say let Tait bowl however he wants against Zimbabve co. and take him away when Australia is versing big countries. Biggest priority is keeping Lee fit. If required, replace Smith with Johnson/Bollinger if the pitch requires 2 spinners.

Good decision to get Hauritz back, but a pathetic reason: "He has a good record in India". like WTF! 7 games, 4 wickets at 70+!!!.

Also, I do not want to see Smith as a specialist batsman in any game. Paine is better.

A lot depends on Watson, Ponting and Clarke. They HAVE to fire. Stating something really obvious but meh.

The only player who would come close to Hussey's finishing ability is Ferguson, and he is left out of the squad. We need super tournaments from Watson, Ponting, Clarke, White, Johnson and Lee to win this thing.

 I agree!! I think what he meant was that Hauritz only goes at 4.5 per over in India which is really good.

But Hilditch really needs to be clearer with his comments, first 'the selectors did a really good job' when he should of said 'the selectors picked the best side they thought could win the Ashes' then 'Hauritz has a good record in India' when he should of said 'Hauritz has a very good economy rate in India'.

And this person is a lawyer! I'm sure he has lost many possible clients after this Summer's debacle!

What I want to see:

1\. Watson
2\. Haddin
3\. Ponting
4\. Hodge
5\. Ferguson
6\. White
7\. Hopes
8\. Smith
9\. Lee
10\. Siddle
11\. Bollinger

It wont happen though.

The only selection I completely disagree with is Tait. The bloke just isn't fit enough. Siddle for me should be playing. I know Tait doesn't have the greatest ODI record but he has improved over this Ashes Series and I can't see why that can't continue on in ODIs. Ferguson could probably be in the squad as well. I suspect Hussey was chosen because of his part-time spin being an option to use.
Hastings is a good player to have. Like Smith he bats and bowls. He makes the batting order look longer. The selectors could use him as a replacement for Johnson.
Good to see Hauritz there. Now keep him selectors. His the best we have.

Well Warnie's Aus legend's vs England legend's cricket match wont be going ahead. Apparently it is 'too hard' to organise the event. Yet after the Asian Tsunami they managed to organise an ODI with legends from around the world playing… Maybe because that pleased the powerful Asian bloc at the ICC?

SHANE Warne calls off a Queensland flood fundraiser after an 11th-hour bid to save the Twenty20 legends match failed.
>
Warne tweeted the news late this morning, telling disappointed fans: “Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately after discussions with everyone concerned re a flood game, it won't be happening”.
>
The cricketing event was hoped to raise as much as $20 million for victims of the floods, and was hoped to be held as a legends charity Twenty20 match at the MCG later this month.
>
The event was hoped to be a match between English and Australian greats, and followed the efforts of a raft of other sporting greats who pledged to help the Queensland flood cause.
>
The Aussie team was hoped to include greats including Adam Gilchrist, Matthew Hayden, Darren Lehmann and Glenn McGrath.
>
Warne thanked former English fast bowler Darren Gough and Gilchrist for doing their bit to try to get the game to go ahead.
>
But Warne said he hoped to find alternative fundraising methods.
>
“To Adam and goughy who have helped me try to put game on I thank-you guys so much. Let's keep helping out in other ways and raise $$$$,” he tweeted.
>
Warne had gone to great lengths to get the project off the ground, including contacting Channel 9 boss David Gyngell and concert promoter Michael Gudinski to ensure maximum exposure for the proposed event.
>
Warne also called on Cricket Australia boss James Sutherland to back the event.
>
The event was hoped to be staged a day before the England-Australia one day international on January 30.
>
Last-minute attempts to keep the concept going as late as 8.30pm last night failed, when Warne said he was “still trying for a 20/20 match”.
>
But the spin king’s hopes faced a major hurdle after Cricket Australia knocked back the concept earlier this month.
>
Cricket Australia spokesman Peter Young had said the concept would be “too hard” given the organisation already planned to use the seven one-day internationals between Australia and England to raise funds instead, culminating in a gala day for the fifth clash at the Gabba on January 30.

What a joke CA has become, so what if they have a gala day and plan to raise funds at the matches in the meantime. They can do that AND have the charity 20/20 match. The more money, the better.

Very selfish from CA.

I think the cricketing world would much prefer to watch this 20/20 fixture which would be played in a fun lighthearted mood as opposed to the current 20/20's which try to be serious but are still a bit of a joke.

Real shame. I would have paid to watch those boys all play together again….

Yeah I can't understand CA's logic. Seems more like they don't want anyone else showing them up - Warney was doing all the legwork for it anyway so what's the problem?

Great innings by Marsh and an awesome cameo by Bollinger gets a defendable total.

Poor, poor, poor Hauritz. His done his shoulder something and no doubt out of the World Cup. He was bowling well too.

as soon as i saw hauritz injure himself i immediately thought of the world cup. he looked like he was in alot of pain so it doesnt look good at all.

Sad for Hauritz, a decent world cup campaign by him could have revived his test career, but that may be the last we see of Hauritz playing for Aus (if Doherty does well in India, and a test spinner stands up).

Great knock by Marsh, I always saw him as a specialist opener in ODI cricket, but he did a great job coming in down the order, and basically won us the game off his own bat. One of the best ODI innings by an Aussie I have seen when it comes to getting your team out of trouble.

3rd ODI at the SCG today. Match is close to a sell-out as I was looking at tickets. Apparently Tait may be fit to play despite limping off at Hobart with a sore groin. Doherty is in for Hauritz. Aussie physio Alex Kontouris says Hauritz is getting minor surgery giving him every chance to be fit. Hopefully he does get fit as the Aussies won't win with Doherty as our spinner.

aust are going alright at the moment. eng is batting and are 3/92 after 21 overs

well we ended up winning by 4 wickets and we are now winning the 50/50 series 3-0

dave hussey batted well

Don't read too much into this series, England aren't exactly putting their best ODI side on the park every game, although it's nice to win a few games.
