@Marshall_magic said:This draw is a joke. Game 4 on tonight and it's another top 8 team vs minnow. When do we get to see a quality level game, Kenya/NZ, Bangas/India, Canada/Lankans and now Aus/Zimbo, can't we get 1 big game early? I guess the subbies may want to get the easy wins out of the way after what happened to India and Pakistan at the last world cup.

Thats the whole idea of this draw, so the top teams can get to the knockout stages.
For the minnows to get to the next stage, instead of causing one upset like in 07, they will have to cause at least 3-4 upsets.
Its basically the same as the 1996 World Cup draw, where they had 2 groups of 6 with the top 4 from each group playing in the quarter finals, therefore really making the group stages pointless.
I'm not sure what the format is for the next world cup but with the minnows gone, I would like to see the same format as the 1992 World Cup, where that simply was one group of 8 (It'll be 10 at the next world cup) with the top 4 making the semis. That way at least every team plays each other and the top teams will play in the semis.

I couldn't think of a worse structure than the 2015 world cup in Aus/NZ. 10 teams play each other once. It will take forever to get through the opening round and so many games will mean absolutely nothing. It will be pretty obvious which teams are going to get to the semi finals by halfway through but the tournament will just drag on and on, putting everyone to sleep!
Give me a tournament of 16 teams, 4 pools of 4\. Top 2 go through to the next round, 2 pools of 4\. Then 2 semis and the final. Each game will be so important You'll be wanting to know the result of every game, not just the ones your team is playing in. Lower ranked teams will get a few games, with at least some chance of moving to the next round. There will still be plenty of games between the top teams… as long as they actually perform!
But no, ICC want to maximise their TV revenue! Can't risk India getting bundled out early... By the way, I saw that Cricket Australia have said that the ICC did all the TV rights negotiations for this tournament. I guess CA are getting a fair bit of criticism about channel 9 not showing full games...

Yep how good was it the poms were rattled dropping catches, getting wickets but only had 3 fielders in the circle, schoolboy stuff really but just shows how bad we played in the ashes.

@Marshall_magic said:The 10 team tournament should be done with 2 pools of 5, play everyone once, top 2 go through to the semis, winners there go into a best of 3 final series. 7-8 matches for the winners, every game will be vital (so teams don't slip out of the top 2).
No doubt they'll go with 1 pool of 10, followed by quarters, semis and a final.
Also, if it's 10 teams, every country that fails to make the semis at this world cup should have to qualify (Aus/NZ should auto-qualify as they are hosts), If that means 1 or 2 big guns miss out, so be it.
@tig_prmz said:As I predicted Pakistan will be the dark horses, they just beat one of the favourite teams to win the comp in their country.
Watchout for the crowd if there is ever an India vs Pakistan game. Indians will go ballistic over there!!!!!!! If it is the final, which I hope not between these 2, well…
