Cricket Season Thread

I feel the pathway to Test Cricket is a major part of the problem. We seem to have this excellence program that has superseded Sheffield Shield and here lies our biggest problem. Science is a wonderful thing in sport, but it will never substitute time in the middle & hours of work running in to bowl on a hot summer day.

We need to go back to grass roots cricket and put all our energy into it… Its hilarious reading about all the current news stories talking about our batting woes and who is performing this week in S/Shield, but we dont seem to send any of our world class bowlers back there to bowl at them?

Years ago, we knew who would handle the toughness of Test Cricket, as they were facing Jason Gillespie & Stuart MacGill for at least half the Shield Season.

I say scrap the centre of excellence and this resting bowlers rubbish and let them tear it up week to week at Shield level again. They only break down because we wrap them in cotton wool all too often!

Would have gone for Patterson before Madison and maybe Tremain the Victorian quick before Bird. Also must be a better spin option than Lyons

Definitely.
I think Maddinson is a more talented batsman than Patterson, but Patterson plays the style we need. He can protect his wicket and doesn't mind a slower strike rate. Maddinson will come out and try and hit the first ball out of the ground.

The Aussies should be watching how the English are playing atm and taking notes. Currently 0/52 off 40 overs chasing 400.

Lyons problem isn't Lyons

Lyons problem is Smith doesn't have faith in him , would also help if the batsmen scored at least 300 occasionally in the first dig

Might help

Happy was always in Lyons camp, but I am starting to loose the love. He can spin a ball, he can flight a ball, he can drift a ball and he can dip a ball, but sadly he very seldom takes wickets these days. Most batsmen seem to find him a easy prospect these days.

In saying that who is the answer???

Lyon is going the way of Swann. Had a purple patch and things are leaning out for him now.

Problem is I don't think there's anyone better at the moment. Can we bring Pup back as a spinner?

Only if you're 14th man

I still maintain it's poor policy to promote Wade for Nevill. Sure Wade is a decent bat but his hands let him down big time. No point in your keeper being able to score 50 runs when he drops half a dozen chances.
