Like the previous poster, Paine is a natural leader, pity he career was stuffed by a finger injury. He would have taken over from Gilly and been captain before Smith, and who knows, but I say the ball tampering thing would never happened. Iam not blaming Smith, but I just doubt it would have happened under Paine’s watch
Sure you don't want total minefields all the time, but pitches do have to offer something to bowler, even if it doesn't start doing something until day 3\. The drop in roads where you would struggle to force a result because the bowlers simply cannot extract anything from it takes them out of the contest.
