Great to see a pitch where the bowlers for once hold the aces. Okay you would not like every test wicket like it, but sure beats the roads we have produced in recent time.

Like the previous poster, Paine is a natural leader, pity he career was stuffed by a finger injury. He would have taken over from Gilly and been captain before Smith, and who knows, but I say the ball tampering thing would never happened. Iam not blaming Smith, but I just doubt it would have happened under Paine’s watch

Sure you don't want total minefields all the time, but pitches do have to offer something to bowler, even if it doesn't start doing something until day 3\. The drop in roads where you would struggle to force a result because the bowlers simply cannot extract anything from it takes them out of the contest.

The perfect pitch offers something to everyone over 5 days , assistance to the quickies early on but bounce and carry for the batsmen and the spin bowler

The more a test progresses natural wear and tear offers more assistance to the spinners

Gone should be the days when a team picks 4 quickies or 3 spinners , cricket will only thrive and prosper when it offers something to all spectators of all games , as much as we all despise 20/20 it helps to keep Test cricket alive for the short term

My only comment against Lyon was early on I thought Hauritz was a better spinner than him , Garry is now a far finer spin bowler than Hauritz , you could possibly argue our best ever off spin bowler

He needs some help though , our quickies lack effectiveness once the ball goes soft

T20 keeps Test cricket alive? How do you figure? The negative effects of T20 in this country are very apparent with the BBL taking precedence over Sheffield Shield and our choosing to play T20 circuits wherever they can.

Money wise it funds Shield cricket and every level below

We need Shield cricket to produce Test cricketers , if Shield cricket was a stand alone business it wouldn't last a month and One Day domestic might break even if lucky

The State associations would rely heavily on the BB dollars /sponsorship

Hate it as much as you and I do , we need it unfortunately

Don't worry wait till it happens it the other game we all love and come on the Forum for , some shorter format that keeps games closer and more exciting will eventually take over rugby league and all us old fogies will be up in arms :smiley:

What's a winning lead …...280-290 ??

I am thinking anything over 250 will be a big ask, but India have the best batsman in the world so anything is possible. Anyway even if Finch has another bat I can’t see Australiagetting more than 230, so I expect India’s run chase to be under 300

They have two of the best batsmen in the world. I really rate Pujara, very much in the mould of Dravid. They don't win the first test without him.

I read that India's 8-11 contributed 11 runs for the whole match.

Many "young" people these days are all about instant gratification they have little patience.In my mind it is a sad reflection of their values.

Ok I get it. I thought you meant the gratification was in seeing a slogged 6 whereas I find the repetition of that, boring. But yes - all done in a couple of hours, quick look at the phone then what’s next!

I find a draw in a test match to be far more entertaining than hit and giggle.It is probably my age showing through but i used to be one of the people who would go to shield games after i finished work(3pm at bondi)

I’m a Test cricket fan but have no objections to the BBL. it’s good to have on the Telly this time of year. better than soapies and reality tv.
The intensity of Test Cricket is a few levels up. To loose a Test series at home against a top nation makes to stakes so much higher.
