But Ivan’s still not sure who his best 17 is yet !
@ said:@ said:I agree with someone else's comment that this is a predictable and boring thread, full of angry wishful thinkers venting their spleen when their team disappoints them. As others have pointed out, Cleary has done a great job with the defence and the team now competes in virtually every game. However, we just don't have the game breakers in the squad to overcome a poor performance. The class teams find ways to win when they don't play well and we are not able to do that. I wasn't at all surprised that the Tigers lost last night. **We were always going to suffer a psychological let down** and the Bulldogs were always going to be tough to beat. The club, as a whole, are moving forward well and that's all we can ask for this season with our limited squad.
With all due respect.. That's garbage and making excuses.
Stop excusing mediocrity… It's not good enough and it's certainly not a culture we are looking to foster

I don’t think so either, but we are underachieving atm.
Agreed - I just posted about recruitment in the culture thread. In fact I’ve been banging on about it for a while. Fringe first graders and past their prime champs just don’t cut it. That’s where our problem are
All well and good Steve. The question is, who could Ivan have bought for 2018, that are good, that want to come here and that he didn't play massive overs for?
It is going to be a similar situation for 2019 if you have a look at the players on the market with the above restrictions.
2020 will be a different situation with heaps of good players in positions we need becoming available.
For next year Cleary will have to grab what he can to improve on 2018\. From reading on this Forum over the last eighteen months nobody wants to pay overs - yet disappointed people are saying he should have thrown heaps at this player or that player. They are also the ones jumping up and down that we payed overs (I don't believe we did) for Reynolds, packer etc.
I am sure Cleary and the Tigers have a plan, they are sticking to it and it will come to fruition but not overnight.

Ohh please get over your defense of JT
You cant see rhyme nor reason on anything when you are fixated on him.
Double standards champ
You are the most yo yo supporter on here, it’s bewildering. You’ve been all over the success the last two weeks and we lose a game and your world comes crashing down again. To be honest your not a genuine supporter, and if there were more like you (thank god there isn’t) we wouldn’t even have a fan base.
Back to your favourite topic of JT lol. The JT you were still defending after nearly 3 years in charge. If you can’t see how much this team has changed then your delusional. So quick and ready to throw Ivan under a bus any chance you get just so you can continue your JT obsession. It’s sickening, I feel sorry for you.

With all due respect, I'm entitled to my opinion Ink and, further, I don't think it's garbage. The main point I was making is that every time we suffer a loss we get the doomsayers and axe wielders coming out cutting down the team and castigating the coach. Overall, our club has made great progress since about April last year and, while I don't welcome mediocrity, there are bound to be bumps along the journey towards the overall goal of having a regular semi final team. In order to be a regular semi final team, we need to change the culture and build the strength of the squad. Both of those factors require time and patience. And before people say that they've been patient for long enough, I'd suggest that team coaching and management hasn't been in better hands for some time and we, finally, we have the solid foundations needed to succeed.

It’s year one of a new team. We have new players in major positions. We are able to recruit and add players in the next few seasons and our current players will develop and grow aswell.
You can keep denying it but injuries have killed us this year. Our best forward Lawrence did not play yesterday. Our marque buy Reynolds is out for the season. The team we have we need luck with injuries and refs and we didn’t get either this year. I’m happy with the progress this year. Doesn’t mean I don’t want further progress for next year. It doesn’t I mean I give up on the team and the coach. Get a grip.
@ said:You're talking out your backside if you can't see a marked improvement in performance & attitude this year.
And there is no reason why it won't continue.
Culture change….yes. There are many clubs & supporters out there who would give their left one so Cleary could be their coach.
@ said:@ said:His biggest test will be recruiting quality for next year. Recruitment for this year was ok considering the mess we were in but another round of just ok signings won't be enough.
9 game contracts aren't the answer either.
Yes so much this ^^^ We need at least 2 game breaking forwards and 1 big, tall, fast wing/centre to be competitive next season. Otherwise just get ready for more of the same folks!
@ said:To me it's petrol in the tank. Come that last 20 minutes and were gone.
It seems clear to me that if we vs half a forward pack were gone. Against Souths and Dragons we put the effort in, against Canberra and Titans we just can't handle their big men.
The dogs game though, cmon guys you should have been able to win that.
Strength and conditioning is where our problem is. I would be looking at Michael McGuire or someone similar to train our guys harder. Our defensive structures have helped a lot with Ivan but we can't win if we can't muscle.
