The description of solid and safe in a team travelling so poorly with so little NRL experience augers well for WTs and Laurie. He's done some very nice things with the ball in our attack. He needs work in defence but most young backs do.

Don't think Laurie would handle the defensive workload required of a 6 in the NRL..then again neither can Doueihi or Mbye so why not..

I can't recall the bloke dropping 1 catch yet and we all want to move him.

His ball security is superb and we all seem to be looking at his attack (which is damn good also). Especially his ball paying.

So what if he loses a few meters when he hits the line. In a few years he'll be either strong enough to bust a few or have the legs to avoid it altogether.

Leave Laurie where he is. We have way too much chopping and changing already.

It's not really where I am coming from. Darren Lockyer was a great fullback, but he was an Immortal when moved to 6. Laurie has the traits of a Cliffy Lyons type five-eighth. This isn't about him being a bad fullback. This is about playing our highest potential attacking player in the most impactful position.

Darren Lockyer wasn't moved to 5/8th until he was 27, Laurie is 21.

He hasn't looked anything like Cliffy to me. Lyons could create a try out of nothing. Cliffy would pull off the most amazing pass and then drop the ball cold the next play. Laurie has been pretty safe without the magic that Cliffy had.

can we leave arguably our best player this year in the position where he's been playing decent footy please. we need outside backs. once we recruit some decent ones that know how to defend you'll see a change in results for this football team. Laurie is our fullback for the next 10 years, Doueihi is our five-eighth for the next 10 years. that's it.

I think the plan will be Hastings 7 and Brooks 6 for 2022. If Brooks doesn't perform then Madden or possibly Laurie to 6. Hastings isn't the fastest so having he and douehi in the halves wouldn't work, I personally like AD at centre .

Wait and see. The dude is clearly a 6. Plays like a 6, looks like a 6. He's not a modern fullback. He is built nothing like an elite fullback. He looks and plays like Jerome Luai or Kodi Nikorima. I am not even really saying to play him at 6, I am just saying 6 is clearly his best position, it's written literally all over the kid. His ceiling is pretty good fullback, but if he gets to play at 6 his ceiling is muuuuch higher. He has physical limitations that will prevent him from becoming a dominant fullback imo.

I think Brooks 7 and Hastings 5/8, AD at centre with the pom, all depending who we obtain through Hartigan in the next 6mths. Alternative Brooks, Madden as halves, Simkin 9 and Hastings lock.

Haven't seen too many games live but he doesn't seem to talk much. Brooks and Laurie would seem a very submissive combo. They'd both just pass to each other on the last tackle saying "Na you go first"

Only tigers fans would consider moving one of our players from the most solidified positions even when he’s doing well and in his rookie season.


The same tigers fans saying his attack would be better at 6 even tho we haven’t seen a kicking game yet. Much more importantly the defence Side of playing in the halves? Can Laurie tackle forwards all game? Not sure if anyone has realised, but scoring points isn’t a issue for us! It’s the defence, so we need to ask ourselves does Laurie at 6 improve our defence? The answer simply NO!

So no we don’t move Laurie! Leave him where he is excelling, he will only get better with games and years as he grows bigger and stronger.

Remarkable how most of the chat on tigers forums are about how we can improve attack and yet we’ve lost every game this year to defence .

I think Hynes is a much more natural 5/8th, if we were to have both on the books by some good fortune.
