Dale Finucane

With Finucane, I’d be happy to offer a 2 year deal with 3rd in his favour, however we can choose for him to have an off field role in 3rd year. He’d be an asset to have in the organisation. That way he knows he is financially secured, we have someone elite for 2 years and that extra year, we have the option of it not affecting our salary cap.

Gone very quite on this one so assuming we are putting our eggs in the TPJ basket.
I don't mind that and hope TPJ makes a decision very soon as we might go back in for Finucane if we miss TPJ... For me 700k would be ceiling for him but think others will beat that.

Dale said wanted to focus on origin then should have a decision by end of month

A lot of people have said there is a lot of going on behind the scenes and should be some movement in the next 2 weeks across the NRL.. We are most likely waiting for all the deals to be done and we can choice from the left overs..

I thought he played great last night, made one handling error early in the count, but apart from that his effort was very high and he ran hard and defended strongly. Also noticed his talk in D.
He is undoubtedly an upgrade on anything we have but on his own he isn’t going to be enough. We need at least one more quality forward to help lead our guys. B Smith is the guy we need.

Dale Finucane 3 years $ 800 k per year is a strong player and leader

Wants $950K pa....no thanks

That is insane money, for effectively a good member of a forward pack, not a damaging runner or especially lethal tackler, just someone who gets through the work.
***Where has that figure come from?***
What is he believed to be on at the storm?

It was posted here from Willow last night from a good source and backs up The Poms version that Finucane isnt serious about coming here and we arent his first or even second choice.

Apparently Finucane told Michelle Bishop today that there are 8 clubs.

Im so glad to hear that about 8 clubs chasing him..but I dont believe it for a moment..
...all part of the BS from the media as to why our ole buddy Dale wld be a great fit for WTs at just $950k for 3 years blah blah...
He HAS BEEN a great workhorse,no more no less, but honestly isnt close to being a game changer at his peak & at this stage of his career wldnt make the top 6 most valuable forwards at the Storm(Smith,Grant,Welch,Asofa,Jessie Bromwich,Kaufusi)..which is why hes out for a final payday
.... am sure hoping it wont be us!

Your right.
Yes Dale Finucane seems like a good player.
Storm have 6 work horses, infact with the bench and recruitment they have more. Dale at 800k is overpriced. 950k no

Yet can he give us what we want?
Defense!
I dont know. I dont think 1 player can fix this. I think he could help and YES if signed Frontload him to the Max! Happy to suffer in 2022 if 2023 means we make the 8.

I think though Defense needs a whole team defense. If you want to pin a crazy idea, pin this:
Coach swap, Michael McGuire for Ricki Stuart. Ricki is one of the best defensive coaches in the league. Michael floggs us hard but cant work out our defensive issues.

We need a defensive coach and we dont have many options:
Bellamy, not happening.
Bennett, probably no chance in hell.

Below that is Ricki Stuart or Flanagan. (Or worse.)

Swapping Maguire for Wicky won’t help us.
Wicky has issues with a number of his players and Canberra (with the exception of the 2019 and 2020 seasons) are basically WT in green jerseys.

I am 140% against sacking Madge, but I think Ricky would be outstanding for us. IMO he is a great coach. What he has achived with Canberra has been unbelievable. Yo uthink its hard to attract players to Concord, try attracting players down there.

You know the maximum is 100% right..

Grinds my gears..

Its actually not.....

If you have 100 gremlins and 10 of them die, what percentage do you have left?

If you have 100 gremlins and someone pours water on them and there there are 140, what percentage are left?

(no idea why I used gremlins, Ive had a couple of beers)

no amount of amber fluid will silence the gremlins, lol

Brent Read saying 6 clubs in for Dale. Thinks titans have nose in front. Also, either this week or next he'll most likely make a decision

We haven't made an offer from what Brent said. Might change depending on TPJ choice.

Surprised people think he didn't play well for NSW - charged at the line, made the most metres for any NSW forward plus 24 tackles none missed. Thought he played with a very high intensity all game

Problem is at the moment, any time we are up against another club, we never sign the player, unless we pay overs.

Seriously think of all our signings the last few years, has a player ever chosen us when theyve had a serious other offer?

Correct. I don't blame anyone but that is reality. It's why missing out on players isn't bad. We are paying overs so getting them may be worse than not getting them.

It's like Nofo. I reckon he is a good player and one of the first picked especially with our outside backs. The thing is we overpaid to retain him on too long a term. If we missed out on getting him people would have been going crazy but it would have been better for us.

I think we should keep trying to get top players but it's more about getting other teams to pay overs. We may land someone decent at some point as well.

At the same time keep going for developing players who may outperform.

Good post mate

Agree mate its all we can do. The Nofo one was poor. Adding to the fact we now signed big Ken, we now have two wingers signed till end of 2024 and 2025 respectfully, blocking any pathway for anyone else. If someone else does break through, we have a well paid winger in reserve grade.

Hopefully if we land 1-2 (even if a bit overpaid) and they come off, it will entice more players to do so. Knights and Dogs overpaid Burton/Ponga without much experience as a gamble, we might need to do the same.
