He took his mum to the Dally M award night! He’s a good guy focussed on his career. WT need to learn a lesson from those events and become the club where players can have an optimistic view of achieving their personal ambitions. It’s not rocket science, and if we had good people ourselves who cared more about the future of the club, than they did about their own self importance, then we would be that club today, already.
Can you name the people at WT who are not "good" and who "care more about their own self importance"?
No I can’t and I wouldn’t.
Well, I don't understand the point you were trying to make.
It is obvious to anyone who has had some involvement in OD that the teamwork that we are so desperate to see on the park, didn’t exist back of house. If you think it has been a shining example then perhaps you could tell us why we don’t enjoy the same high level of success with the football team? I really would like to know?
Hmmmm ....you make some pretty wide intuitive leaps there my friend. I don't have any "informed" impression of the quality of OD (whatever that is .....) but, given your hostile response to my suggestion that you name names, I don't think you do either!!
You could have shown insight. Instead, you chose incite. Sad, really.

What is to be gained from withdrawing the offer?
I don’t think Nofa will re-sign until the final bell, a week or two before the top 30 spot needs to be filled, unless of course he gets a better offer, which I doubt. No other club will show more love to him. As Buzz said Nofa and Lee have an extremely tight friendship. Ok, he’s probably hurting because Benji has gone and he’s wondering who will kick to him on the fourth, but I believe Brooksy will be that man!

Put a time limit of 1 further week on it or offer withdrawn. He has had plenty of time. Sick of player agents taking us for dummies and using us to up the ante with other clubs.

Exactly. Starting to doubt WT concept of good value. I hope we’re not just benchmarking based on media hearsay. What’s Teddy’s worth for example? Is it a million dollars like he’s on or are the Rorters getting twice that? Jake Turbo is another, don’t care how much they’re paying him, he’s giving them good value. The real trick is picking the guys who will go out and play the lights out. Then you get a deal done.
People are scarred because whoever we’ve paid overs for hasn’t worked out. It’s fine to pay big money for players as long as they’re actually worth it. I like the fact we won’t pay overs for players, but it doesn’t help when we’re trying to sign big name players. Understand their approach though there’s a fine line there
I agree. So now we have a confidence issue and a brand issue. Makes it hard to compete.
Part of building a brand is retaining talent whilst building a culture. I agree we shouldn’t pay overs but we should recognise and pay our talent what they deserve.
Maybe if we did that on both accounts, players like Teddy, JAC and Pap would still be here.
The best way of building a brand is winning on the field. Do that and everything thing else is insignificant. You cannot do that by continuing doing what Wests Tigers have in the past and that is pay players overs and totally screw the salary cap, ending up with an unbalanced team.
Cleary screwed us, no doubt about it, but it’s not like we’ve been cellar dwellers over the last 10 years, however for some reason we still can’t attract genuine talent.
That comes down to coin and culture.
It comes down to a winning culture. You can’t have a winning culture when some players are getting a disproportionate amount of the cap. Players see that and wonder why not them. It creates a culture that is only interested in how much they can get out of the club. We need players that are part of the solution and paid fairly for their talent. That way you build a great team culture, having everyone working for each other with the goal to win the competition.

He is our player until the end of this coming season, why should he or anyone else be given an ultimatum to sign or the offer be withdrawn before the season has even started. That is definately not the way to promote team harmony.

Just been offered $1.2m
Over 3 years
Before anyone takes it too far, my post was a joke lol
I realised that
Joke or not, I’d be surprised if Nofa stays at WT
Wests Tigers can’t make him stay if he doesn’t want to. If he goes, he goes. I’d be slightly disappointed in Nofa if he goes, not the club.
We shouldn’t be trying to make him stay. It’s the role of the club to make an appropriate offer and then have an alternative solution lined up should he walk, I’ll judge the club based on this. Too often we tend to fail twice.
Agree ... I think we have advised him what we have on the table and its a take it or leave it offer.. After all our offseason moves and not paying overs I trust the powers at the club to not overpay..
That’s step one HSV. So when he takes up a more lucrative deal do you trust the club to replace him with a like for like replacement? I don’t.
I do
Who you got in mind Cochise? And has he played more than 10 NRL games yet?
My faith is more in the job that is being done by the likes of Hartigan, I have faith that he will pull the right reins. We also have some players coming through in the next 12-18 months who may be able to make the step up, players like Kei will be pushing for 1st grade spots in 12 months time.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out, if we’re still waiting for young guys to pull us out of the dumps in 18 months that’s probably curtains for Madge. Then what?!
Where did I say we will be doing that?
I asked who would fulfil Nofs role and you gave me Kei in 12-18 months, not sure everyone has your patience mate.
If Nofo doesn't re-sign we will have plenty of cap space, hopefully a better club culture, with just over a year to replace him. Why stress about it now?
You’re assuming he doesn’t agitate for an early release (we know about that) and our poor form in recruitment of star players suddenly changes, I’m not so confident on either front.
Again you're stressing over a hypothetical worst case scenario. In the unlikely event he does push for a release, I'd like to think we'd take the same path as we did with Aloiai and push for a favourable outcome.
No. I’m saying that at the moment it appears a very real possibility Noffa could leave the club. If we’re not out in the market at least looking at suitable replacements we’re failing as a club. Look at how the Storm are operating in recruiting and retaining talent, that’s how it’s done.
We don't need a replacement now.
Do you really think that the club doesn't have a plan b if he does leave? That they are just sitting there waiting for him to sign, these guys do this for a living, they know what they are doing.
Mate, it’s hard to have much faith. Like we replaced Teddy and Mitch Moses so well. The next Gareth Ellis is still on his way. It’s been plod central in the pack. Hartigan might be the next Don Bradman but he’s only just walked to the crease.
So lets give the guy a chance hey, all you do is criticize when the guy has made good moves so far and you have others on here saying he is good at what he does. At somepoint some positivity needs to come into it or what is the point of supporting.
I could give you 5-10 examples of positive feedback I have given, but on the Nofa thread I happen to have a strong opinion that we need to either sign him or a player that is of equal ability.
Not if he is being difficult we don't, if he is asking for too much then you have to let him go. You don't mess up your cap for a winger.
And I said that a few pages ago, but it’s my view that if you make a decision to move off him, you need to be out there chasing Xavier Coates or someone of that Ilk. And you may end up having to pay overs anyway.
Or you develop your own, but that's right we are incapable of that.
To my earlier point, you could but it’s not going to happen overnight, and likely not on madge’s watch. If we don’t make the eight in 2 yrs I doubt he’ll be retained.
For example Kei is 20, if we don't think he will be pushing for 1st grade in 12 months why did we sign him? Maybe that is why they aren't willing to overpay Noffa, maybe they believe we already have his replacement.
Sometimes you have to back yourself and your coaches and their ability to coach players up.
It’s my personal view that it takes players 2 seasons or 50 games to become proper first graders, unless you’re a rare gem like Folau/Inglis.
Probability tells me we need to replace Nofa with like for like.
Well lets go all in $600k sound alright?
We’ve covered this mate, I say 500 max 3 years, you say 400-450. Can Harry T do anything?
Harry T does plenty.
If he is leaving over $50k then I guess he isn't the club man we all hoped. It goes both ways mate. I don't know why we would be paying him anywhere close to what JAC got to move to the dogs.
I can also tell you he won't get $500k here, he plays one position, with no potential to play others and has defensive issues. If he wants $500k then he needs to move to another club. That is not an opinion it is a fact.
And if that’s the stance the club takes I’ll support that, but I’ll be the first to heap flack on them if we’re watching a lesser winger run around in a beaten team next year. That’s all I’m saying. It’s about results.
Of course you will, does that mean we can heap flak at you if you are wrong?
With the side we have you don't break the bank on a winger.
Thick skin mate. I’ll be that happy to be supporting a winner for once I won’t care.
As I said earlier, Noffa hasn't got us the results we want either.
It’s not a one man game though is it.
No its not, so we don't break the bank for one man. We build a squad like we are doing. If a player is looking at the mistakes we made in the past and thinking I want some of that, then you let them go.
Good sides replace talent
WT ‘let them go’
I think we replaced what we lost last season, we are a little short at fullback and 5/8th, we actually have decent depth at wing.
