David Nofoaluma #164

I can understand any frustrations but why are people perpetuating the club having a victim hood status?
- Nofo's situation could cause team disharmony and possibly derail the team.
- Nofo's part of the club's problem of mediocrity or hasn't single-handedly gotten us to the finals.
- He's looking out for himself only and showing no team loyalty either.

There's probably a few more I've read but my whole point is that every other team goes through the same thing yet because he's only one (of very few) of our juniors and this type of decision has caused us the most heartache previously, it's probably being more scrutinised on the forum than it should be.

The whole business of the NRL is give and take. It's full of overly ambitious and mostly opportunistic players - and a real dog eat dog world for clubs. We look to recruit or seek players who tick boxes for us yet are still unable to do the same for our players... and even worse have already had competent enough players in our system for us to successfully do this.
So we're victims of our own making if anything and until we've turned the corner you'd think there'd be a level of restraint from some supporters bringing up these points.

Hopefully he doesn't leave, but it would be such a Tigers thing to happen to refuse a swap for JAC only to lose Nofa a year later and end up with neither.

Do we have proof that this happened and Nofo agreed to it ?

Do we have proof that we never wanted Papenhuyzen and he slipped through the cracks while we thought we were re-signing Tedesco?

Doesn't matter if there is proof, that's the narrative in the media.

Personally I couldn't give a toss about the narrative in the media and I tend to prefer truth over rumors. Why would I give a toss about something that is made up in the media.

Refuse ?
Maybe Nofoaluma doesn't want to move to Melbourne

It would be like asking a Qld'r to move to Sydney
No way would I do that
I would rather cut my wrists

It's bizarre how people believe this nonsense isn't it. You ask for facts and it's about the media narrative.

This thread is over the top. 130 pages on a winger - clearly it's the off season 🙂

First things first - he has a contract for this year so is under no pressure to sign right now.

A few things we don't know:
We don't know if he was offered to Melbourne or if he wanted to go
We don't know for sure who, if anyone, has made him an offer
We don't know what he currently earns or what he's been offered
We don't know what his manager has asked for

We do know he wants to play finals - like every other footballer
We do know he's a strong clubman and been loyal to the club
We suspect his preference is to stay
He's improved under Madge and they seem to enjoy mutual respect
We do know he'll have a crack every game

To say he's not loyal because he hasn't signed is naive - he's a professional sportsperson with an existing contract. When required he'll be trying to make the best living he can. He's seen guys warming the bench, underperform and tank getting paid double what he's on.

At the end of the day he's an above average winger who's first picked every week. Don't pay overs but give him a fair go.

Happy new year all 🙂

Agreed. I get a bit tired of reading: "But, we could have traded Nofo to Melbourne.....", blah, blah.

If it is true that Nofo wants a 4 year deal at at least $500k pa, then there is no way Melbourne would have taken him, especially when you consider they were paying JAC significantly less than that and are probably paying him less this season.

I think it can be taken as read that Nofo to Melbourne was never going to happen. Even if we were happy to trade him, he would never have gone for the money Melbourne would have been prepared to pay him.

Worrying signs. This looks like a job for our resident expert on body language - The Patriot.

He was calling that Cleary was gone, based on his body language, way before it became official.

I love the hardball stance you guys are taking. It's as if you think we can afford to shed good players. Before you start taking about offers around the 300k mark, go back and watch some games. He is an amazing meter eater and can score tries with three defenders in front of him. He is the only one in our roster who does this and you guys think we can impose any condition we want?

But he won’t be as effective with Benji gone ..
I say punt him .

not for 600k... 500k or less would be great and happy to keep.

It's one of those classic pictures for spot the ball.

As others have stated he has 1 more year on current contract if he decides to leave based upon term and $ I say good luck.
He is one player that always seem to try in a game, does go missing at times in crunch games however.

2020 scored 17 let in 22, regardless of how well he goes he will always end up in the negative because he has never learned from or fixed his defensive flaws. The same mistakes he made in 2013 are the same mistakes he made last year. This may sound like im a hater, im not, I'm a West Tigers tragic like all of you, and I acknowledge that the best teams have the best wingers and the best teams spend 80% of their time focused on something that makes up 50% of the game, defense. Where does this put us?

But a team of rugby league nomads, reformed bad boys, overpaid vets and unproven rookies are about to lead us from oblivion mate. Just ask the forum.

Not one person has suggested that and everyone agrees we want him to stay, just on an appropriate contract.

I don't think many would argue with something under 500K, but the real sticking point is the length of the contract.
