And fans whinge about lack of player loyalty.... This thread.. Lol

Lol. Exactly. Loyal players should take whatever the club offers and be happy, right?

And if they dare consider their options, they are a traitor.

Three weeks ago Josh A.never wanted to play anywhere else. I think we are entitled to get use to the fact that player loyalty only ever lasts the length of a contract, and once bigger and better offers come in club loyalty starts to look very shakey. We would be silly to assume that Nofa is different but would be more than happy if he decided to stay.

I totally agree. You can't begrudge someone looking at their options. As long as they honour their existing contract, then I have no issue.

The more I think about it, the more I hate the Nov 1st rule. We are talking about players signing elsewhere a year in advance, with contracts in place! The result is, everyone wants to leave immediately.

Go back to June 30. Players in the NBA get traded and move within 24hrs. Surely players can manage a move in 4 months.

It would stop all this crap, trying to leave a year early.

Nofa is a flat track bully, whenever we really need to win he has a quiet game. Spend the half million on a match winner, should have swapped him for JAC.

Multiple tries against titans 2 bulldogs 3 dragons 2 and manly 3 inflated his stats in 2020.

Ha you mean that manly game where we trailled 20-6 at half time?

Yeah, when our finals chances were nought

It would be tough for Nofa. He has a crack every week. He has improved a lot. He has to sit in a team where three guys are taking north of $2.5mil in salary cap and are not even on the field. He deserves every penny he gets even if it isn't with us. Hope he kills it and wins a comp one day. He is a good clubman.

He said the same stuff last time and ended up re-signing.

He’s that far ahead any of our other wingers, and this year scored more tries and try assists than JAC in a much worse side.

Please stay Nofa.

The difference here is that Josh doesn't want to last out his contract, he wants to go now and that is probably not the end of the world as most people would not begrudge him getting a better deal somewhere else if it benefits his family.

The problem is the way he has gone about trying to get out of the remainder of his contract.

But in huge games this year against Parra, Souths and Penrith he was MIA. He’s a quality finisher and offloader who lacks genuine track speed.

A lot of people here seem to overlook all the dirty hit up he take from his own red zone, he never shirks those first play of the set.
He also scores a lot of tries than other wingers would not because of his strength and determination

He’s fast enough, he doesn’t have JAC speed but he very rarely gets run down.

I’m not sure I agree about him being MIA when he’s making 150+ metres in those games, but remember he’s a winger and can only do so much. As a comparison JAC was very quiet in the big deciding origin match. Just 55 metres for fox.

Sam Ayoub 101..

Nofoaluma wants to stay ..the Club wants him to stay ..if anything the last few weeks have shown they wont be drawn into paying overs ..the player also has every right to test his worth done the right way..

Or he thinks he’s worth more than he is. He had a great season but I’d offer him $500k max.

Not worth $500k imo. That is absolute elite winger money.

I reckon $350k is really good money for a winger. That should be his expectation on performance. I hope he stays but we can't end up having to pay top dollar for every player the we have to re-sign. Tamou cost $350k.

I just noticed a pattern that he was really good in those expected to win games but no big moments in the games that elevate you into finals

The perception of management's ability to  preside over club matters competently is the only factor constantly scrutinised, with our retention/recruitment at the top of the list.
So to let the only current junior we've helped reach their full potential - throughout instability  - walk, would be a disservice to trying to correct this perception.
The last few years have made it impossible to measure the success of any club objectives, but I'd say seeing Nofo at peak performance and developed into a solid NRL player shows us that we are making some sort of headway.

He deserves to be rewarded for his service and efforts and the club needs to show us, and others, how they'd like to be defined when it comes to player treatment. Because there's a big downside to what we are already (highly) aware of, including in the media, when it comes to releasing our most talented juniors

The flipside (when you look at others) they will stay at the club they love if the offer is anywhere near what the poachers are offering. Generally a club needs to offer more to get a player to move.

I hope we are not lowballing him, but by the same token should not be offering stupid amounts to keep him because he is a junior.

It's clearly a game where players just try and get the maximum amount of money they can. That is cool but it means you have to manage the cap tightly. As soon as players want the maximum possible deal you have to let them go.

There should be a better way of managing contracts though because players like Aloiai and Matterson leave mid-contracts and that isn't right.

Think he got $450pa,which was way more than his mkt value at the time but was a reward for being the first to sign up under Cleary in a very unstable situation
Frankly thats about his current market value based on this yrs performance...hes not at the JAC level as a finisher but does the hard yards and can finish better than most
I doubt whether any club will pay him significantly more tbh,but as we have difficulty attracting really good players(and he is that)Im inclined to hang on to him.We dont have many proven peformers in the outside backs who can make something out of nothing
Unrelated..whatever we do with anyone lets NOT roll over on Aloi and consolidate an already established precedent that we can be easily pushed around
For what its worthgiven the uncertainty of Nofo ,a player swap of their goal kicking winger Garret wld be a fair swap for Aloi.Hes not in the same class in breaking tackles but a great kicker and solid defender..and we dont have much else on the flanks
