Defence can win it for us

Happy - I think that Cronulla scored their tries out wide and after looking at the highlights so did the Roosters against the SeaGulls.

Happy - good point. Do you think that Matalino and Packer might change our reliance on compression … that is after we have had time to settle on the field. Anyway I was please to read those stats

It depends on how Cleary rotates our bench imo

Why for the short term I'd be considering bringing either Packer or Matulino off the bench

We need to keep some experience in that middle third to help the young blokes from panicking when things get messy /ugly

It's tough because Cleary has a lot of options , does he keep ET in the middle or Eisenhuth and try and ET and sure up our right edge

Does he start with say Grant and bring on Matulino and Twal using Twal for impact

Does he start Sue on an edge for 15 minutes and then move Taylor to that edge and bring on Eisenhuth in the middle third

For me the biggest side we can start with would be best and then use some youth ,size and mobility with a good mix and experience on the bench

Tuesday will be an interesting afternoon in regards to selections

Sharks post contact metres were massive , very hard to defend on the back foot , we were rolled big time up the guts , couldn't control Fifita ,Prior ,Bukuya etc

Controlling that is part of the value of Taylor, he takes the legs.

To win through our defence, or attack through our defence, we need field position. We need to have them starting sets deep in their own territory. To do this we need an accurate and consistent 5Th tackle kick - and I haven’t seen that from us in a while…..

I hope the tigers are not known for our De fence
I want the Tigers to be known for
De wall
Its holds together much stronger in tuff conditions and is harder to climb over
:brick: that's Tedesco using his big head trying to get through our wall

I actually think having the start we have is a good thing. Firstly no one expects us to win any of the first 5 games outside our fanbase. 2ndly we will really be tested and that hopefully will have the forging of a blade so to speak.

If we get through the first 5 games snag one or two and are in them ill be happy. After that our draw gets easier and we will have been blooded. We will also then be more under the radar then we are now.

And to finish Cleary wants a consistent performance defensively while our edge didnt look great in our last trial, our middle hit hard and didnt get run over like past seasons. that in itself has me curious. With a full strength pack i think we will compete well.

Since tigers are thin in the centre position what about playing Lawrence at right centre ??
Even though not quick anymore he may offer more balance and solid defence than good Ol Kev
Left centre would be Masters/Milne
Just a thought

His days as a centre are behind him, he doesn't have the speed or mobility to defend there.

Yeah I'm sure Robinson Bellamy and Unca Wayne are shaking in their boots losing sleep on how to combat the Mighty Wests Tigers in the 1st 3 Rounds with our unknowns…

Manly used to attack with their defence…blokes like Watmough, Matai, Lyon...inspiring stuff and lifts your team mates and the crowd

Yep, lets get in their faces and stay in their faces all match. Dont give them on inch to move.

St George were the same 2009-2010\. Brilliant defence, but dull and boring attack. Defence is much more important than attack.

Can't imagine that the side is not already picked and training as such.

Lawrence would be as bad as Kev but in a different way.Lawrence can read what is happening but cant cover it(lateral movement) while Kev just has no idea on defence.

The day that Wests Tigers win games with their defence is the day I'll be the happiest supporter on Earth….

And not once every 6-8 weeks either...every week..

And so say all of us

Something missing in the way our right hand edge was exposed is that it was a hot night and Sharks had all the quality ball and were on a roll on.

Reynolds and Brooks were absolutely average and couldnt get one repeat set. Maybe it was the poor service from McIllwrick but all in all those 3 let in more tries than Marsters and Nofo.

Defence will have to be outstanding if those 3 dont improve.

We just need milne to shape up. he was good at world cup.

You are right in that our weak area is our halves and hooker and to a lesser extent fullback. I think Thompson will do a good job at fullback and Tui if he gets it together could be even better. The service from dummy half has been terrible and Reynolds makes a lot of mistakes including stuffing up when we get into the attacking zone and losing the ball. Brooks does he usual kick it dead 8 times out of 10.

I think Liddle, Taylor (at hooker for a limited time), Reynolds (also at hooker for a limited time), Benji, Brooks and Gamble can do the job in those critical positions but there will need to be massive improvements.

Great in theory, but there are always line breaks for one reason or another and if the other side can run quicker your in big trouble. Teams will go around us this year rather than thru us.

At the trial on Saturday night we actually defended well in the middle, it was on the outside we were in trouble.
