Do Panthers have stripes?

Does anyone else see a lot of similarities between the Panthers and the Tigers? Both are talked up in terms of their attacking game & the young "stars" that they have.
From what I have seen of the Panthers this year, some of their young stars are not playing up to expectations, they are being bullied around the middle of the field, and their attack has generally been spluttering.
The only 2 teams that they have beaten are us and Newcastle. Makes me wonder about Griffin as a coach. Was last year based on the side that Cleary had built? He did not set the world on fire at the Broncos.

Massive underachievers. Should almost be undefeated with their roster. Sadly for Gus, he need look no further than Griffin. He's never been anything special. Would only just scrape into the 8 with the Broncos. He had a good year last year, but from what I remember they had a decent run home. Not sure what happened with Cleary, whether he had a falling out with Gus or not, but Cleary definitely got shafted. Their injury toll in 2015 was horrendous and they struggled accordingly. Oh well, one club's trash is another's treasure.

I was at that game yesterday…we think we've got dramas !

Panthers are a rabble ( and I loved it ).

But your right Harvey , once the forward pack gets dominated the halves go missing and its all sideways crap from their on in, much like Penrith yesterday .
....and by the way Moylan is garbage , I can't believe people put him on the same page as Tedesco

Injuries haven't helped but they really just need to pick a 17 and stick with it as much as injuries will allow. Whare has been moved from wing to centre and so has Blake. Hiku has been plonked on the bench because he's being paid too much to play reserve grade but really it's just a waste of a bench spot and it triggers an unnecessary back line shuffle mid game when he's brought on. It's not helping them in attack or defence, and it's wasting an interchange that could be used for the forwards.

They are also badly missing Cartwright in attack. They are playing too sideways and too flat. They could get away with it more when they had Cartwright popping offloads and generally causing indecisiveness in defence but he's been out most of the season. They need to change their style of attack.

Latu is way down on last years form and so is Merrin. When those two spark Penrith will improve. They'll still have a good season I think.

Merrin is going like a busted at the moment and don't think Tamou has added a great deal to the squad for the money that he is on.

I wonder if having too much depth is a bad thing. Because as you said, you can chop and change the side so often, it doesn't have a chance to settle.

I've read that somewhere before…

Their razzle dazzle stands up against poor defensive side..put it up against the Storm or Cronulla ..they are ordinary..

Did Cleary or Martin even play yesterday..?

Yep, Cleary was putting up spiral bombs to the centre of the field all night.

Only saying the same thing to my youngest son yesterday during the game " lot of similarities between this mob and the Tigers," he agreed.

I thought Merrin was one of their better players yesterday, Tamou is hopeless and always has been apart from that one hit in SOO.

Martin is nowhere, and never will be as good as Moses - we made the absolute correct decision there - and anyone who thinks Moylan is better than Teddy should go and have a brain transplant.

I would be pretty sure that Griffin was trading off Clearys hard work and knowledge previously, unfortunately for him he has to coach off his own talent this year. Dropping ET to reserve grade shows you where he is at. Then again it was a good move - thanks Anthony, how did that work out for you.

Yes Geo (Yoda) …you have read that somewhere before .
It's called Wests Tigers

Difference is they made the finals last year we didn't. And will probably make them this year with nice end of year form.

The problem is they run 4 ball players, or 5 when Cartwright is on the field. They look like a touch footy side. Only Wallace and Cleary have the maturity to go back to structure. Griffin needs to tell Moylan to stay out of the play and just try to run into holes, or move him to five eighth.

I agree, Panthers are very much like us, I posted an argument about that last year.

They have a similarly poor finals record, won a comp early 2000s, still making comparisons to their legendary late 80s-early 90s squads.

Panthers invest heavily in juniors and it doesn't always work out, they've let go of a lot of decent footballers that played good footy elsewhere - Coote, Jennings, Lewis, Gordon, Austin…that's without even reaching far into my memory.

Their halves are young and really quite untested over any period, for all the fans of Cleary, and I get it, but he's barely played 30 games and many halves get worked out.

Penrith like us have lost their way a bit, and they've had plenty of ball without being able to post points. That pressure of not being able to score is telling, they are not managing well right now. They need to get back to basics, find their rhythm, try not to over-think their attack.

BTW just for a bit of trivia, there's not technically such a thing as a panther. The species commonly referred to as panthers are cougars, leopards or jaguars. Panthera is the genus, which includes Tigers (Panthera tigris).

Therefore Tigers are technically panthers!

Merrin is going like a gun off the field though, lucky bugger!
Agree on Tamou, in fact the only game of his this really stands out is that one from a few years ago at Leichhardt where he made that lengthy run down the field until Benji finally caught him and gave him a face-slap on the ground haha.
Moylan looked very timid yesterday I think he was worried by Wade Graham belting everyone in sight. The Sharks outmuscled them easily.
Campbell-Gillard is a goer and very mobile, wouldn't mind him at our club.

Panthers have serious issues, they will have to unload so many players due to the salary cap but it seems they just keep re-signing players

It all comes down to the forwards, they are going like woeful up front, only a couple of guys are having a real go and players like Merrin who is on big bucks look so unfit it's not funny.

The 6/7 are kids still and it's hard to steer a team around the park when the forwards aren't laying the platform, I think Cleary will look good in a Tigers strip in two years time lol

Moylan or as I call him the hair model is not only cocky and smug but he is playing some very average footy at present.

I don't mind the Panthers. Probably my second team after WT. I never got why Gus punted Cleary after he helped sort out their salary cap mess and got them playing good footy even with a bad year with injuries.
For me the jury's still out on Griffin as a coach. I'm glad we passed on him in favour of JT a couple of years ago.
