DON'T FORGET

This is round 4 in a season many if us thought would be a rebuilding year. Whilst some players are yet to prove themselves in positions etc, combinations in attack will take time so it is very early to write players, and indeed the team, off just yet, and also to request mass sackings of players. Give it time.

Yeah just getting wins are important at this stage of the year. Consistency is a big issue competition wide. We are 2 from 4 so its okay. Here's hoping the performances improve soon.

A rebuilding year and we are building our team around long term signings like Fulton, Ayshford, Blair, Lawrence, Moltzen and Pettybourne. I can't wait.

Hate the phrase " rebuilding year".

Is that what wests club tells fans and sponsors? Forget '13, I promise '14 will be great? I don't buy it. Winning has to be part of the culture. It's not at wests. We let in try's that most teams can defend against. We are in the NRL but we really arnt in the NRL. Like most years '13 will be a season that we squander.

What a rubbish statement. What is being rebuilt?
We have virtually the same team as 2011, and we have resigned most of them beyond 2013.
If the problem was the coach, as all the experts said last year, now he has gone why have things not improved, in fact IMO defense is worse than ever and the attack is predictable impotent and pedestrian.
Simply writing off performances such as tonight's as acceptable because its a rebuilding phase, is a cop out, and acceptance of mediocrity. Penrith has rebuilt, they have an excuse, we don't.
Potter inherited a team who had played virtually unchanged together for 4 years, which made top 4 2 yrs running. Performances to date with this team are unacceptable.

So what you are saying is you agree with Lawrence being called for interference twice because Lyon knew how to make terrible decisions then dive, and Benji should be let off the hook for shanking in front?

All examples change the complexion of the game. We were impotent in attack off the back of existing players muffing their roles. Has nothing to do with Potter if Benji is uncontrollable, I guarantee no-one instructed him to kick like a window-licker.

What I am saying is we had 80% possession in the first 30 minutes with the origin hooker and New Zealand 5/8 and lock, and couldn't score a point. Manly had possession for one set of 6 and scored.
Potter is the coach he isn't Benjis PA. If as you say he can't control Benji, what is he doing there. I don't imagine Ivan Cleary would put up with it….

I can see both sides to the argument

On hand i can see where the OP is coming from, Sheens left the side in a shambles without any depth in the front row whatsoever and without an established halfback and fullback. Had he given Miller a decent crack he could be much further along in his development and not be still trying to establish himself as a first grader

On the other hand we have the nucleus of a side that maybe we have over-rated. We have an abundance of established first graders: Lawrence, Ayshford, Fulton, Anasta, Blair, Galloway, Woods, Reddy, Pettybourne, a world class no 9, and a 5/8 who is suppose to be a superstar who more often than not produces rubbish. We just don't have what it takes to match with the top sides, we're a bottom half of the 8 side at best

I posted in another thread that manly had trained all week to exploit our defensive weaknesses between Miller and Lawrence. Invariably one rushes up the other stays back creating a hole big enough to drive a bus through.
It's a tactic that was used against us every round.
Why are coaches identifying these weaknesses to score against us yet our coaches can't identify the problem to stop it from happening.

900, dont get me wrong Potter should be accountable, but dont be confused thinking the coach can turn the players hand on the field. Tonight was a failure from the players on the park (bar the benching of Farrah). For the first 30 mins we were all but full strength, and some onus must fall on the people with the ball.

The Miller/Lawrence failure is something that has to looked into I agree, but the gap you speak of should be plugged by the fullback and/or assistance from the left second rower…..

My notion of a rebuilding year does not include several of our established first graders, but bringing through some of our young gun players. There is some 'dead wood' that I was imagining would be replaced over time.

people on here dont understand u cant have all youngsters on the team for a rebuilding year u need vets to help them, right now theres a good mix(though i would have perfered ava on the bench why the hell was he even dumped for a hooker anyways)
Buchanan
woods
Koro
Tedesco
Miller
Ava
are all under 22 and getting some games this year im expecting more to come in the next few weeks with nofoaluma or Naiyaravoro getting a go on that wing spot
siro will probley be in the side sooner or later as well

Penrith are re-building….they havent finished I dont think
These things take time

As for inheriting a semi final team....
Tuquiri was playing well, Lui was starting to click....we had blokes like Skando Payten Gibbs Fifita Dwyer Ellis up front

This is 100% correct.Thats quite an impressive junior list to build on to😵bviously Sirro will be in their too sooner hopefully rather than later.Maybe later brooks also.Im actually excited by this year because of all the quality new players we will be seeing and the removal of some deadwood next year.

If I can see progression and Potter making decisions moving forward I can cop another up and down season.

it won't be fun but you can see the purpose of it.

How long did we wait for Lui to settle into the team? How soon we forget the complaints about his stagnant attack and his weak defence. However over time he became the link in the defence we needed and he started to come out of his shell.

We have a new coach, a new halfback and a depleted front row and yet people want to complain about rebuilding as being an excuse.

I like that Potter took Robbie off. I hated that Iosefa gave away two key penalties, but when he first came on I thought he added some spark to our attack when Manly were tiring. Good on Potter for having the gumption to try something different. Keep Robbie fresher and p#@! him off a bit to fire him up. Plus we have been deteriorating in the last 15 minutes so I think resting Robbie and keeping a fresh forward on the bench is designed to rectify this. I applaud it!

We won't match the Souths, Dogs and Storms of this competition this year and everyone needs to realise that. We don't roll over and get flogged, we stand up and show that we are proud of our colours and improve every game. People perform or Potter makes decisions - and I believe he is prepared to make the hard calls!

Agree Tigerbalm, I've yet to see Melbourne have a 'rebuilding year' yet they've lost plenty of players over time. They have had many lesser known players doing their part each week, believing that they can win - that's the difference. It all comes down to attitude. It's gonna take some time to instill a winning culture into WT because apart from a couple of months in 2005 we've never really had one. Mr Potter will have to work some magic here.
