Ennis comes up short

Ennis was awesome for NSW in defense and this was the first time I actually felt his niggle played a part. He didn't do much in attack but it was my understanding he wasn't supposed to. Ennis didn't play himself out of a jersey. Dean Young, Mark Gasnier, Brett Morris, Jason King are the four to come into question for mine. Farah, Idris, Hayne and Learoyd-Lahrs may come into reckoning.

Mac I would of thought differently with him coming off the bench . The idea (as i saw it anyway) would of been have Young out there for the early exchanges and when the game started to open up a bit after 30 minutes to use Ennis as an attacking weapon . No that it really worked but that would of been the thinking imo .

ennis stepping on cronks leg, shown with 1.33 left in video

He'll get nothing for that!…but it does re-enforce what a GRUB he is...Gosh I hope one day someone smacks him in the face and knocks a couple of front teeth out!.

I hope that in game two when something erupts Sam Thaiday hunts him down and dog shots him a beauty.

That would be poetic justice.

That will only happen if Ennis is already held by about 4 Queensland players. Thaiday can't "hunt" by himself and is always 3rd, 4th, 5th man in with the blind side hit.

Yes, NSW did start to look better once Ennis came on. But that was more coincidence than cause. QLD started making a few handling errors. Was that Ennis? And on one of the very few chances NSW had in attacking position in the first half, what does Ennis do? A schoolboy knock on.

And then I see the stat in the telegraph today that Ennis was one of the top tacklers for NSW. Well it was pretty clear that most of those would be 2nd or 3rd man in. Oh, and 1 run for 1 metre…

All Ennis seems able to do is provide a clean pass, most of the time anyway. But pretty much any hooker in the NRL would be able to do that.

You obviously missed my point when I said that would be poetic justice :unamused:

Thaiday came looking for Ennis in the blue but 3 guys jumped in front of him Watch the footage .

Seeing Ennis knock it on 10m away from the try-line was awesome. And then to top it off, he kicks early and misses a tackle leading to QLDs last try. BUILT FOR ORIGIN! :laughing:

NSW did look better when Ennis came on. Only because he his a better hooker (quicker out of dummy half) than Young.
Which is not hard.
I am totally confused as to why these two nuffies get picked over Robbie.
I'd even have Alan Tongue before these blokes.
Having said that , I hope they stick with Ennis etc for the rest of the series.
Firstly to prove how bad they really are and secondly, it wouldn't be fair to Farah to bring him in halfway through a series. Give him 3 games next year.

**I can tell you now unless Young and Ennis are injured Farah will NEVER be considered for NSW #9…I dont agree with that but it appears that's how the NSW selectors think.!**

Young won't every play orgin again, he offers nothing. Next year after we loose and hopefully sticky gets a job somewere else, we may finally get a coach that picks Farah and makes him captain. In a few year there will be a lot of tigers in the forward, I can see Fifita, Woods, Dwyer and Galloway all being good enough to play for NSW and who better to lead them than their captain.

I hate to say it but he will be one of the first I would pick for Game 2.

Had a presence on the field.

LOL, Did you know that there's only ONE player who has taken part in each of the last five Origin games for NSW? Give you one guess who it is.

Juding by the man love for him, he'll be playing the next five as well irrespective of how he performs.

Ennis cleared of stomping in Origin

Canterbury hooker Michael Ennis has been cleared of stomping on Queensland player Cooper Cronk in the first half of Wednesday night's State of Origin clash.

Video footage of an incident late in the first half shows Ennis stepping on Cronk's leg after the Queensland utility had tackled NSW forward Trent Merrin.

While match review committee chairman Greg McCallum said there was no doubt Ennis had "deliberately" put his foot on Cronk's leg, there was absolutely no evidence to support claims he had stomped on him.

"If it was stomping, we'd be talking about the possibility of a heavy suspension," McCallum told AAP shortly after reviewing the 36th-minute incident.

McCallum, a former top flight referee, said Ennis had put his foot on Cronk's lower leg and lost his balance, making the incident look worse than it probably was.

"Cronk didn't react, there was no sign of any injury and he got to his feet and went back into the next play.

"It was one of those incidents. It was a niggling incident by Ennis, designed to try and get some reaction."

McCallum said Ennis's action warranted a penalty but had gone unnoticed on the field.

The game ended on a sour note with players from both sides pushing and shoving each other.

The decision means Ennis is free to play for the Bulldogs against the Titans in the second game of Friday night's NRL double header at Suncorp Stadium.

Im sick of the excuses people make for this guy.

It wasn't a bad tactic using a bigger defensive hooker in Young to start and have Ennis who is quicker coming off the bench. Problem is Young offered very little direction in attack.

On Ennis, he had some terrible moments but he did have more of a presence around the ruck then Young. That said Farah would have been ideal in that situation. We all know he is more creative and makes just as many tackles, not to mention has a far superior kicking game.

However, one thing nobody has mentioned that Ennis did really well was his pressure on the kickers. He deserves credit for that and its something Farah could look at. Ennis does it alot a club level and you really don't see Farah do it much at all.

Thats the only thing I see missing from Farahs game in comparison to Ennis, that and the niggle or more precisely his grub antics.

I'd love to see Farah off the bench instead of Ennis if thats how Ricki wants to play it.
King was terrible, bring in Weyman or leroyd Lars.
Morris should pay for his crucial error, bring in Hayne.
Gasnier was ordinary. If they want to build for the future then Idris should come in for him.

Apparently "Built for Origin" constitutes the following:

- Not being able to play for the full 80;
- Taking poor options when you're defending a 2 point lead;
- Grubby acts in general play;
- Punching players on the ground only to cat it behind a prop;
- Schoolboy handling errors;
- Being the second or third man in every tackle;
- Zero impact with ball in hand.

Farah is nothing like this clown and I'm glad for it. I hope Robbie sat in front of the idiot box last night and laughed himself silly at that muppet make an embarrassing spectacle of himself.

Perfect description !
And can anyone tell me when a guy who can ONLY play hooker has been on any bench?

Jason King - FAIL. Mark Gasnier - FAIL. Morris - FAIL.

Michael Ennis - FAIL, again. Fumbled the ball early in an attacking position. Kicked from dummy half straight to Slater and then missed an important hit a few tackles later on Matt Scott. His service from Dummy half was garbage to Pearce and Soward, hence their average games. All he did was relieve Qld pressure and create NSW pressure.

Put it this way, if you are NSW watching QLD attack, you are looking at Smith, Thurston, Lockyer, Slater and whoever actually has the ball. If you are Qld watching NSW attack, you are watching Pearce, Soward and occasionally Dugan.

NSW needs someone to attract attention away from the halves and give them a bit of room. Farah, absolutely. Or if we hate Farah for some reason, someone other than Mr predictable Ennis. Add unpredicatble Hayne on the wing for Morris, Idris for Young on the bench and suddenly QLD are watching more than 2 or 3 players like we do.

But this is a fact. You will hear Ricky Stuart and others over the next few weeks utter the words "We can't chop and change players after one game. They have earned the right to REDEEM themselves in game 2"

And you know something, I agree 100% IF YOU PICK THE RIGHT SIDE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!

twas amusing at half time to see the grubbby, leg stomping, fumbling, cheap shot artist sitting in the corner of the change room with his mates… all none of them !!

Farah will not get a look in this year so time to move on ..Robbie unforunatly has to re establish himself as the go to hooker for the blues whether he wants to only he knows….. but I was not impressed with meathead Young getting a start now that 's putting the boot in IMO ..I don't like Ennis's style of play Grubby at best and doesn't have points in him so time will tell whether Robbie draws the line in the sand.

Not even if they were injured, I reckon, Alexaki. The selectors are always on the lookout for dummy half alternatives and Farah is rarely, if ever, in the equation.
