After watching the magnificent Grand Final win by our Under 20s a few weeks back, second rower Liam Fulton thinks that there are exciting times ahead for Wests Tigers.
Competition for positions in the top grade will be high next year, with a number of players from the Under 20s Premiership winning side likely to join the senior squad in 2013.
Now one of the Club’s senior players since making his debut in 2003, Fulton said that it’s important for any Club to have exciting youngsters coming through the ranks.
“Having young whipper snappers nipping at your heels is a good thing. It’s great to have these kinds of players at the Club to keep you on your toes. I think it’s exciting times for Wests Tigers,” he said.
“The Head Coach, Todd Payten, has got some players there with big futures ahead of them. You look at the previous teams that have won the Grand Final, they have a lot of players that step up and play first grade and I don’t see why a lot of our players can’t do the same thing.”
Fulton also paid tribute to his former team mate, Payten, for an outstanding season in his first year of Coaching.
“I think they were really well coached. Todd did a great job with them. They really put in for each other, they really worked hard, they had a lot of workers and they had everyone in the right spot.
“They all played for each other which I think is hard for an Under 20s team as you still haven’t matured properly at that age.
“Todd really helped the team gel together. He organised a lot of things off the field together and you could just tell they were a really close group.
“I just think they had a great coach with some great support staff.”

Maybe the NYC team can advise the 1st grade squad on how to do this.
IMO the way in which our NRL boys did not put in for each other and played with such little passion was the most disappointing aspect of our season, there was just no commitment to each other (especially in the 2 Roosters games). Play for each other and with plenty of passion and you will win far more games than you will lose.

We could be anything next year under a new coach. It can't possibly get any worse (finishing 9th is as good as 16th IMO,) and we have everything to gain.

Hopefully the new coach can instil some pride in the jersey and the hapless punters that will brave the elements just to see them run out on the pitch.

Well boys hope you don't follow the warriors mistakes by putting them in the side to early and not having a recruitment of older heads you can't fill aysford and Ryan's boots with youngsters.trust me I'm a warriors supporter and what I'm reading we where Doing the exact thing on are forum talking up are u20 and thinking its are time but it's put us back years IMO

2014 Definitely , these guys will get some game time behind them are learn more about playing NRL and about there own games which they will need to improve

A bit off point , but what are people's thoughts on Liam Fulton as an assistant coach , particularly with defence

He definitely has a brain in his head and could make the step from player to coaching in my opinion

Fulton reminds me a lot of Payten but where Payten has the head coach aura Fulton has the assistant coach aura. Will be interesting to see where they end up in 10 years time.

I don't think you could compare the Warriors to what is happening here at the Tigers, the Warriors dominated the 20's by having a massive size advantage and that was how they played where as we have some genuine footballers coming through who "can play". Once these Warriors boys lose their size advantage you find out they ain't that good.
We have Koirebete, Noffaluma, Sironen, Miller, Tedescoe, Lovett, Brown, Mulcahey, Brooks, Moses and the list goes on and on, all are genuine quality footballers who can make the grade IMO.

Yeh true our team are full of young guns and getting the right coach will be a good thing all these players are the future and hopefully we start seeing them in first grade next year.

Fulton speaks maturely. Hopefully his team mates pay attention to what he has to say. Having a good attitude is important, having the will to win and to play for each other. Having pride in the jersy they wear and a good coach to guide the players and not let the players have their head in space, they should have their feet on the ground. Humility is important and the players should know that a game is only won after they had played in it. Anasta will bring along some good attitudes which will help. Together with the players coming in from the under 20s, we should have something to look forward to.

Can be a good/bad thing but most Fijians have no care for there body when playing League so hopefully these boys will be the same.

I don't think I've ever been so engaged in league during an off season

so excited to hear the announcement of a new coach and dream about our future glory

Exciting times ahead? It's going to take quite some time. I think we will go from pre-season favorites to pre-season favorites for the spoon in 1 whole year!

The warriors NYC teams of 2010, 2011 had plenty of amazing footballers, Im not sure it was there inclusion that saw them go backwards, but I think discrediting that side is unfair and inaccurate. They were big, but they were also very skillfull and genuine footballers.
