Farah adapting to life without Sheens

Skipper Robbie Farah admits he's still getting used to Wests Tigers' pre-season training without the presence of Tim Sheens.

Former Canterbury and St George Illawarra star Mick Potter has replaced Sheens and will lead the Tigers this season having spent the past six years coaching in the Super League.

Sheens was axed after 10 years with the joint-venture, including the 2005 premiership.

Sheens is the only coach Farah has played under at club level, having made his NRL debut in 2003 against Manly, and the man he credits as being the biggest influence on his career.

However, he insists it's vital that the club move forward after a disastrous 2012 campaign in which the Tigers failed to make the finals despite starting the year as premiership favourites.

"It's a bit strange, it's a very different feel," Farah told AAP.

"When you're working under one coach you get used to his style, even down to the drills you do at training. The calls, the plays, things like that.

"But as a club, there has been a lot of change, not just with Tim, but with other coaches. Players have also moved on.

"But it's up to us to turn around things and make up for a disappointing season last year."

In addition to Sheens, the Tigers lost influential England international back-rowers Gareth Ellis, who joined Hull, and Chris Heighington, who along with popular winger Beau Ryan linked up with Cronulla.

The NSW hooker admits the trio will be missed, but believes he's seen enough from Potter in pre-season to believe the Tigers can still make an impression on the NRL in 2013.

"I think as a coach it is hard yet to work out what sort of style we'll play because we haven't played any games yet," he said.

"But in terms of training it is very competitive, he wants us to compete on everything.

"He is very disciplined and honest and he expects the same from us which is good.

"But ultimately it's down to us players to work hard and make sure we are a lot better than we were last year, as we let ourselves down."

Based on the above comment made by Farah I am very concerned why hardly any of the established first grade players were selected in the first trail at Bathurst.

The first trial is supposed to be using NYC and NSW Cup players.

Yep, good comment. It also helps having a Grand Final winning NYC team having a few players make the step up this year, not to mention Balmain also having come off playing in the Grand Final and having a few fringe players also keen to impress and push for FG selection. It keeps everyone honest and I also like how Potter has everyone competing against each other. They better take that mentality into every game this year.

Finally a half back playing in the number 7 and for fullback will see what happens i think we will see a much improved Timmy Moltzen this year but if it was me i will put James Tedesco at fullback its great we have options all over the park tho.

Im not too excited just yet ..
Farah said we let ourselves down ,yes Robbie and your thousands of fans .
We have to see a stronger defensive side if anything is going to change.
And Newtown ,the first trial is always the young guys from nyc and state cup
