They are getting an origin player for $250k while we pay the rest …. How does feeling sorry for Souths come into it ?

NRL won't register Farah for that amount under their Cap…More Like 450-500K

I find that Interesting Geo because the club now sees him as a reserve grade player. Surely Farah would be able to contest if no club is willing to pay more than $300,000 for him and WT s won't release him for anything under 450 it's almost a restriction of trade.
Clearly Farah is not a reserve grader, and while we all know the coach can select who he wants surely the club cant force a player to leave by keeping him in reserves and then not accept what is offered to him by other clubs.
It seems quite unethical especially when it was the club who signed off on the backended deal originally which they now want to offload.
Don't know if I have explained that very well _- but thoughts.

Restriction of trade ? Not even in the same post code .
The NRL won't accept Farah to be on the books of another club for less than what they value him at .

Ok I understand that- but if South's or whoever don't want to pay that much Farah remains at the club in reserves - can't see how that can be good for anyone.
If Souths come up with money no problem.

He could take a back-ended contract over there backed by WT, if goes well for one year on the cheap than second year at close to full price, with WT paying all end loading.

The one word in all of that is they are DESPERATE well Crowe show us the money !

I have a long running bet with a mate of mine about who finishes highest on the ladder. The bet is for a carton of grog.

I have had to pay up quite a bit these last few years and he has given me currie over it.

Yesterday I texted him, saying that Souffs are about to sign a new coach. He wanted to know if they sacked Maguire and who the new coach was?

Didn't have the heart to tell him it was Robbie.

Can't backload contracts anymore if I'm correct.

According to who?

Of course you can. It ends up creating a mess down the line but you've got to accept that while banking on short term success over long term growth.

I've seen numerous people state it. Either it's only a recent change or a load of bollocks.

I seem to remember reading that the NRL has stipulated no more backloading of contracts but again it could be bollocks. I can't quote anyone and have no evidence other than a failing memory.

Well I saw Gus Gould was asked the question on Twitter "has the NRL banned the backloading of player contracts?" and his response was "not that I know".

I'll take that as a no.

I think I recall Pascoe coming out to say the Tigers will no longer backend contracts, to make sure we don't get caught up in a mess like we have been the past few years. That may be where the confusion lies.

It's a legitimate way of temporarily circumventing the cap but it comes with a BIG cost at the end.

Theoretically doing it for only one player shouldn't have too much of an impact, but then the issue would be who to use it on.

A lot of contracts for many clubs will likely involve some minor back-ending to correspond to the perceived improvement a player will have over their contract. A young player would be worth less in their first year but as they train and get experience at a higher level they should improve and hence increase in value. Offering a player a 3 year deal of 100k, 125k, 150k wouldn't be much to worry about. If it goes 200k, 400k, 600k that's where your issues lie as there's a big risk if the player doesn't develop accordingly or gets injured.

****BREAKING NEWS!!!!****
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have signed Wests Tigers veteran Robbie Farah on a 2 year deal starting from season 2017 and beyond!!!
Expect official announcement very soon…

That was yesterday

And on Fox Sports
http://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-premiership/tigers-eye-new-hooker-eels-rebuild-plan-whats-next-for-benji-marshall–nrl-market-watch/news-story/e872da5bd6ac6c5d9e0573e6c580f122
Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor is on the lookout for another hooker to join their ranks as Robbie Farah’s expected exit from the club gains momentum.

Farah is strongly tipped to join South Sydney next season while current No.9 Dene Halatau will retire at the end of the year and fringe hooker Manaia Cherrington will join Cronulla.

This has opened the door for Sharks back-up Matt McIlwrick to link with the Tigers.

While Michael Ennis will hang up the boots at the end of the year, the Sharks are stacked with hooking options.

This means McIlwrick, 25, will leave The Shire at the end of the year and has been in talks with the Tigers.

Channel 10 just reported Farah met with club on Monday and reaffirmed his decision to stay on at the weststigers next year.

I wonder if as expected Farah goes the rabbits, JT has a back flip, Farah has become cohesive, and he puts him on fhe bench to play the last 3 games of the year. 250th at leichardt oval vs canberra, maybe need to win to get into finals. Would have to be a sell out.

I was wondering that also. Would be good for everyone.
Just briefly checked out that Ali Facebook link. His latest rumours have all been correct.
