Favourite Leichhardt Oval moment

This game was a Beauty at Leichardt vs Newcastle , Golden Point game on a Monday Night and what a turnout as well 18,000.

My favorite football memory is a game that probably is not on any radar. We beat the Eagles 49-24 (from memory) on a Friday night in '05 at the beginning of our run. It was a wet night, so they cancelled the Premier League beforehand.

I got there with my mate after school, mucking aorund on the hill before the game, and then just watched us pile on the points. They then played "Shook my all Night Long" by KISS as a victory song, and just the smell of that grass and everyone in a happy mood, I don't know, I just cherish it. It's every reason why you become a fan of the game.

In terms of performance, beating Melborune in 2006 (only 2 other teams did it before the GF) was pretty damn amazing, Never forget Slater stomping on Lawrence.

Very very sad if this is to be the last game at Leichhardt … And that's coming from an ex-Magpie !

Favourite moment is the '77 Amco Cup and just going there both as foe and as friend. It's a beautiful old ground steeped in so much history .... Will be sooo sooo sad if they pull the plug. Let's hope Marina and her board feel the same way we do.

This place has so many good memories, its unreal. I can think of so many positive times when I was a kid. Played a couple of lower grade games there in 87 and 88, ironically not as a tiger which was a little weird but damn awesome at the same time.

Watching Neil Pringle, Laurie Nichols, Kerry Hemsley, Corowa, the names go on forever.

Then the guys yelling…..

"Hot doggies'...or.....' peanuts. sugar coated or in the shell'... or ...'double on the main'....

Standing on the toilets at the north end....... playing footy on the hill with other kids you don't even know, they just happen to have a footy.... running on the ground and grabbing the black and white corner posts...... patting the players on the back after the siren when you could run on the ground.

Walking up the hill outside and back down afterwards, then waiting another hour in the traffic line up to get out.

What's not to like?

Ha ha AHX I used to get a park outside the Orange Grove Hotel but impossible now unless you park there the day before 😕

There used to be this sweet patch of grass just behind the school that I parked in but now it's gone…

I've been going for over 30 years. Loved any win over the Bunnies but probably mostly loved those games when we were up against it and snagged a win. The game after the Field and McGuinness got rubbed out and we came out and rolled Melbourne, the Cowboys game last year was another.

From the Balmain era I just loved it all. The old Balmain theme song, Laurie Nichols, those great players including the loyal club men who you could watch in reggies for a couple of years and then come through first grade.

It's been such a great venue - probably the best crowd for calling a forward pass in the comp! You can hear it pretty clearly even on TV! I won't miss the Glenn Morrison Dunnies. I will miss the "sausage on a roll, hot doggy" guy.

When I went with my parents way back we used to park the Orange Grove Public School. Now with my own family we park at Haberfield and walk under the bridge, past Le Montage and up the dreaded grassy hill.

Tooheys New in a can. Its the only place in the world where that crap tastes good.

And what you drink that garbage and not throw it at opposition players

And Queenslanders think XXXX Gold is the Royalty Beer

Now that is what you call Garbage .

How can something so worn, old and outdated be so damn amazing ?

There is just something about footy at Leichardt Oval (especially on a sunny Sunday afternoon) that gets you pumped for the footy from the start of the week.

You can't pinpoint what it is exactly but its' just an awesome experience, especially when we win.

My favourite moment is probably when we thrashed souths in 2005 - i remember a kick for touch coming straight for my little brothers head until my mum sticks out her leg and belts it away.. the crowd cheered it just as loudly as one of Robbie's trys on the day.

Another is the Monday night game when Lawerence blitzed Slater and we beat them convincingly when they were on top of the ladder.

Loved watching Robbie smash that grub Watts and his field goal against the knights

I just love footy at Leichardt, everything stands out more for some reason.

Hopefully we can create some more awesome moments on Sunday that we can talk about in five years time

Only been to LO twice. The best moment was probably when my mate and I were standing about 10 feet away from the Parramatta Jesus. And since Wests were giving to them, he copped heaps. "Go home Jesus, beat the traffic" and "you'll need a miracle now Jesus" are the only ones I remember over 10 yrs later, but it was funny. To the Jesus' credit, he took it in his stride and kept rolling his joints

And secondly…..the day Farah squared up with Watts....after being king hit by Watts, farah waits until the next scrum and in true tiger style unleashed about 15 furious left hands to Watts' melon who looked like he had just done ten rounds with Ali and Tyson......

I had two wins in the Red Lion meat raffle that day, too. Best. day. Ever.

I understand the love for LO for many….it has been a place close to their hearts for many many years...its established, the supporters are established, Balmain was established....it one reason the media paint WTs as Balmain sometimes imo....but thats another story

I havent felt the emotions of a ground for a long long time, as an old Lidcombe era Magpie....it all ended in 1987...the specialness of a ground to call your own...the Magpies have always been nomads, going from Concord to Ashfiied to Lidcombe and Cambo...but Lidcombe was my special place, like cambo is to others here nad leichhardt is too.
I hope its never taken away from you....Ive lost that specialness, been taken away...a lot of it has, part of your love for the game goes when its gone
Enjoy sunday, dunno yet if I'll be there...go Wests Tigers!!! :sign: :sign: :sign:

A few of mine:
- Beating the Cowboys in the rain in 2013 after seven consecutive losses. We had next to nothing all night and jagged it with a Nofo try on 78\. Barely 5,000, but just a really emotional night. It kind of felt like we couldn't get any lower as a team and a fan base, and that those of us who were still there kind of earned it. Also I gave heaps to Robert Lui before a kick off and the ground was so empty I know he heard.
- The two amazing tries created by Simona against Melbourne the same year. The one finished by Ayshford is the best try I have ever seen. In the rain, pace and through hands. Unbelievable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IildDyAahHE
- Beau Ryan grubbering for himself to win at the death against the Raiders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqtR4vda_OQ
- Gidley dropping the ball cold when lined up to pop over a dead simple golden point field goal, and the bloke next to me breaking the silence by shouting "have a look Gidley you mug". He definitely heard that, too.
- Lawrence icing the game v the Storm. Jeez what a player he could have been. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCNah9KMWhI
- For about two or three games in either 2010 or 2011 there were a bunch of blokes who always stood near us, who pulled out brass instruments at some stage in the game. They only had three songs: Eye of the Tiger, Rocky's Training Theme and Tequila (aka "Fifita"). But a real laugh when the sun's out, you're winning and on the cans.
- The pass on about 1.40 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=295tF57HUzY

The Watts game was awesome, as was the Titans game where Prince complained to the ref about sending Friend off with Gibbs…

But my favourite game was definitely the Storm Salary Cap Scandal game... The Crowd gave it to them all game, even my wife!

There was a bloke at that game wearing a top had with celery sticks taped all round it and carrying a giant wooden spoon. If memory serves he got up on the scorebox at one stage. We bumped into him at the Red Lion after. He was a bit of a looper in all honesty.
