Cannot wait for the best sporting event on the planet. On ESPN fc press pass last night the panel started reviewing all sides at the world cup and all three panel members agreed that the socceroos won't get a point in what they said was the group of death. Whilst we list most of the golden generation the socceroos do have a good record against most south american countries as well as Holland. If, and its a big IF, the ,roos can jag a win in the first game then anything is possible. Players like bresc, Cahill and jedinak need to really stand up and guide the young lads. I think having an Aussie as the coach is big plus too

I know its in Sth America but really I think you can put the glasses down - Spain by the length of the straight.

if the top seeded sides progress to the quarters, then one side of the draw would be spain,argentina,belgium & uruguay or italy. other side of draw would have brazil, columbia or ivory coast, switzerland or france, germany. on face value brazil would seem to have the best opportunity to get to the final and spain / argentina match up on the opposite side of the draw would seem probable in the finals. i reckon belgium with a really talented roster could be a smokey in the finals

I think we can nab a result against Holland, Chile will probably knock us over, and we may get an understrength Spanish side in the final group game if they win their first two and are guaranteed to progress, although they'd still be tough to beat. Has a world cup group ever contained both the previous finalists before? Just to rub it in they gave us a quality South American side as well.
I think one of the South American teams will win it, and I will go with Argentina as my official prediction (although it was almost a coin toss between them and Brazil).

Argentina or Germany for me , Brazil I don't think so . Uruguay have an unbelievable squad Suarez, Cavanni, Forlan, Godin, Rodriguez from Atletio Madrid , but the Brazilians won't forget the 1950 World Cup when Uruguay beat them in there own backyard , the ref's will yellow card the Uruguayans out of the competition.

The three I reckon that can take it are Spain, Germany and Argentina with Belgium as a smokey. As long as the Italians or French don't get anywhere near the final I'll be happy. I don't think any other country is as well rounded as them. Spain had brilliant players miss out (I might be wearing my Bilbao goggles but how Irazioz missed out on a keepers spot and Aduriz didn't get a look in is beyond me,) so it's hard to go past them.
We copped the group of death, but it's not all doom and gloom. I reckon we'll get the win over the Dutch, get hammered by Spain and get a surprise draw with Chile. We have a coach who's had the guts to choose the best players instead of selecting older players simply for the sake of "experience." Ognenovski could consider himself unlucky if he doesn't go but I think the Spanish and Chileans would butcher him with their speed and skill. Scoring goals won't be a problem if we don't get cut to pieces in the midfield.

If we beat the Dutch, that means they only have 3 points available to advance with, and I don't see them beating Chile.
I suppose it all rests on the result of Chile v Netherlands. If Chile beat them, they end up on four points as well and it comes down to GD. If Chile draws twice well we would advance. The best outcome is for Spain to the other two sides.

Leaving June 7th for 5 weeks. Can't wait. South Africa was good, expect Brazil to be better.

Soccer doesn't interest me at the best of times, and I am already getting sick of the hype for the world cup. by the time the games actually start being played, it will be unbearable.
Good luck to the Aussies, but can't see them doing anything positive there.

The thing I very much enjoy about it is seeing how we compete on an international level. We have some class young players in leagues all over the world but we are somewhat lacking at the international level. Given how the sport takes such little priority in terms of sports followed in Australia (easily behind League, AFL & cricket,) we have done well to make the World Cup three campaigns straight after years in the wilderness which means our developmental levels of the game are drastically improving.
