Have always reckoned that three sides in particular play to a different set of rules than all other teams in a world cup. Italy, Germany and Brazil will never have 50\50 decisions go against them. The non penalty against the azzuri today was an absolute joke and solo typical of officials too gutless or perhaps some other reason, to make crucial decisions. And don't get me started about 2006 and socceroos v Italy. Cmon Uruguay and saurez, send the azzuri back to Rome.

Pity you think that way…... If you had any idea about football without the typical aussie tall poppy syndrome...,
You would envy the top three teams you mentioned, as statistic show year after year after year those teams are elite and to become elite is hard work and effort and part of there DNA, pity you dont have it...

lol, obviously my twenty tears of coaching successful football sides is nowhere near your expertise or knowledge of football. however, tall poppy syndrome .. the only so-called ' tall poppy ' for want of better description at this world cup were spain, whose play and skill has been admired by all over the past six years or so and who regretably and unfortunately were ' cut down '.

I tend to think of the azzuri, because of their undoubted diving ability, as ground hugging creepers rather than tall poppies.

further to my comments about preferential treatment to certain countries by officials and among a litany of examples this one stands out.

no cards or free kicks for this one by the german goalkeeper in a past world cup semi final v france, which Germany went onto win in a penalty shoot-out.

no doubt most have seen this one over the years but it always holds true. things never change for some. suarez hat trick please 😛ray:

Well theres the reason australian football is not up to standards, if it's got redneck coaches guiding and advising them as you claim!!!!

Whats your opinion on an attacking player getting a red card and your Suarez headbutting and biting in regagards to referee favourtism???!!!!!!!??!!??!
Your opinions stink hod help what you coach tosser…

Redneck ?? Saurez is a proven goalscorer but is still a grub in grubby side. The biggest blight in football is diving and feigning injury.of which the chosen elite are champions. But hey if you are okay with that then thats your prerogative. Now I follow two sides, the socceroos and whoever plays the azzuri. Good riddance !!

Glad to see them win, Greece are one of the worst teams to watch and it was bad enough they knocked out the Ivory Coast.

Two Europe vs Africa games tonight, expecting France and Germany to win well, but there's been plenty of surprises so far it wouldn't surprise me to see one of them go down. Algeria played well in the group stage, Nigeria were a little lucky to go through though.

8 games left and we should get 8 crackers. The Belgians vs the Seppos was a good example of a 0-0 game that was enthralling, Tim Howard broke the WC record for most saves in a game with 16.

I think Brazil, Holland, Argentina and Germany are the obvious favs here, but I think all 4 are there for the beating. Colombia are the best side to watch in my opinion, France are also great to watch and are flying under the radar. Costa Rica have knocked off Uruguay and Italy, so why not Holland too? Belgium have got another gear in them, and if the go there then they could take the whole thing out, remember that almost everyone in their squad is playing their first major international tournament (they'll be a force come Euro 16 and Russia 18).

I'll tell you what, the Belgians must be timing their run just right… They've not lived up to my expectations.

Aupa Colombia!

I kind of agree, Lukaku was poor in the group stage but was very good when he came on here. They'd been struggling to find their best XI but I think they are finally settling on it now. Despite three ordinary wins in the group stage they never really looked in danger of losing a game there, even when they were 1-0 down for a long time against Algeria. Argentina have been shaky at the back and Belgian have players who can exploit that.

I'm liking France but for the record I said earlier I believed Columbia could win it.

The Argentinians have a couple more gears

They keep winning and playing poorly

I'm hoping the Costa Ricans continue to make us football experts look bad also

Germany vs Brazil in the semi. Neymar gone for the tournament, I think that Germany will probably get the better of the Brazilians here, who have not looked that good but are 2 games away from winning it all. Without Neymar I just don't see Brazil having the necessary attack to break down the Germans.

is it just me or does Germany always do well at the world cup?!!

i tipped belgium to win it. who knows though, messi could well go crazy and knock them out.

Germany have made it to the semis 4 times in a row. If Costa Rica get the better of Holland tomorrow, then Brazil will be the only team to make the semis twice during the same time frame (2002 and 2014).

well my belgians are out… can i say that i just got the flags mixed up and thought i was talking about gernany?!!

Yeh...yeh that's it: I have "flaglexia". I get flags mixed up, like the Dutch and French flags too... 😕

Such a crap way for Costa Rica to go out considering now well they played.

True , but it is a massive risk to play for a penalty shoot out

Must admit I loved the Dutch's keepers mind games

Something out of Happy bag of tricks

I can't believe anyone has taken issue with Krul's techniques in the penalty shoot out. Apparently he told the Costa Ricans before each kick that he knew where they were going to put it. First of all, I highly doubt that's the worst thing anyone has ever said to these fellows and secondly if that actually puts you off you have no business in on a professional field. Personally I loved what Krul did, how much of an effect his chatter actually had, we may never know, but the guy won his team the match. Hats off to Van Gaal too for the substitution. I hate the Dutch team too, so that's how much I liked the play.

With key players out from both South American teams, I am predicting a Holland vs Germany final with the Germans winning it all.
