Tough times with forwards back then. Fifita was ill-disciplined as ever and would not stop running sideways. I personally wasn't that upset when he left, I felt his career was stagnating, but credit to Sharks for getting good juice out of him for a few seasons. However I'd also say Fifita is past his use-by now, not that Sharks mind because he single-handedly won them the 2016 comp and will be revered in the Shire forever.
Also Ben Murdoch, when he burst on and Sheens even picked him to play his first games in the finals series. Never kicked on, though he's doing better against middling opposition in the UK.
I think a lot of clubs since ~2010 have learned that you need to bring your forwards on much much more slowly nowadays, because opposition defences are so fit, they can make mince meat of young fellows. In generations past they may have chucked Tom Mikaele in a few years earlier, rather than save him up until he was 21. Payne Haas being a notable exception but that bloke is a once-generation beast.

I've heard the argument that the hit from Teo destroyed his confidence which is a load of rubbish. He didn't have it before that hit either.

Sadly the Chooks by plenty, they will get the same clown with the whistle just in case Ricky’s mob play the game of their life.
