Fit Lawrence pleads for Nines shot

If Lawrence continues to play centre I wonder who would be the best centre to pair him with. The centre would have to make up for any inadequacies in speed and defence which Lawrence may still be carrying into 2015.

Do you mean winger Newtown ??

Patty seems to prefer left side and Nofoaluma prefers right so I guess they will leave it as is

Lawerence switched sides mid season from memory

He seems to prefer the left , but one of his best games I saw him play over the last few years was the City v Country game in 2013 (I think ) and he played right side with Joey Leilua on the left

For me, one of the interesting observations of Taylor's early season coaching will be the approach he takes with Lawrence. Chris, over the years now would no doubt have done a lot of work on his game especially post injury and subsequent form. What will Taylor do with him if he doesn't reach the required form at centre. Will he persevere with him and try to assist him further or will he be moved to another position, wing or the fowards?

Depends if simona is going to be the other centre. Because if it is simona he sucks right side and simona needs to be on the left. Lawrence based on last years form cannot be left centre and simona cannot play right centre

I think simona is wasted at centre. Pat Richards needs to be in the team with his added value of kicking…

But what do you guys think about Richards playing any other position like centre?

Just leave him where he is i'd say. I think this will most probably his last yr. Interested to know why you think Simona is wasted in the centres.

If Taylor is brave he may consider playing Lawrence on the wing in the pre-season trials. As slow as he may have been in the past couple of years I wold still back Lawrence to outpace Richards over 40 metres. If Lawrence goes well on the wing in his pre-season trials Taylor may well decide to leave him there for 2015 and push Richards into centre.

Big problem with that is Lawrence has probably tried to take 40 bombs and dropped every single one. If he is on the wing he would receive much more than he has in the centre's and u can guarantee the opposition either score or get 6 more tackles.

Thanks for the link to 'the Chris Lawrence highlights package on YouTube.

Did anyone else notice how many of Chris' tries came from passes from Benji Marshall?

Yes but let's be honest here. On the day it was announced NOONE had a negative thing to say - **we were all estates a future origin and Aussie great was staying with us king term.**
Anyway who says different now is a liar.

Lawrence on the wing? Whoever wrote that must already be on the Christmas booze train! He's slow, can't catch (passes or bombs) and can't beat his man.

The only position he can play is second row. All he ever had was speed. Pure blistering speed. Nothing else in the way of skills. If he suddenly finds all that pace again he can play in the backs, if not he's really built for second row these days!

He runs the ball hard and straight, without fear. No one could ever say he didn't try or have heart, because this was one thing he always did.

His front on defence is also quite good, it's his lateral defence which catches him out. When playing further in field he's likely to meet more forwards and less mobile players than he does out wide, thus decreasing the likelihood of him making an absolute fool of himself.

His game was always hitting holes rather than creating a gap, again another trait better for second rowers than centres.

There really is no reason he couldn't become a Luke Lewis quality backrower.
Looking at some of the pics from preseason he looks to have beefed up a bit, perhaps a precursor to playing in the back row…?

Going on his form over the past two years Lawrence is not likely to cause any more harm playing on the wing than he has been playing in the centres. People advocating that he plays in the centre are likely to have been on the booze for the past two years rather than just at Christmas. If he is better suited at second rower I hope he plays there. However if that occurs we will have to blood a new centre into first grade and the indications at the moment from the powers indicate that it won't be happening..

It's a hard one cause JT knows we have him for the next 2 years . I'm happy with our wingers in Nofo and Richards at the moment , Richards goal kicking is keeping him in 1st Grade IMO .
Form wise Lawrence should not even be in 1st Grade but when his got 2 years left on his Contract what do you do ? I really hope he has a break out year and goes great guns .
I think when your pleading to be in the 9's team you might be sensing that your days are numbered.
I just hope JT will be the type to pick his players on form and not on past reputations.

Well who else was gonna throw them, Bomber Morris?

Has he really been that bad??

His form has been down but he isnt getting the space that he used to.

I reckon there is still a lot of good footy left in Mr Lawrence.

Surely with a full off season and work on his speed he will be ready to go….and hopefully Moses and Brooks can find some holes for him.

Great- A full off season to work on catching and holding on to the ball ( his hands let him down badly in 2014 )

He also needs to work on avoiding getting chucked or pushed over the side-line ( that happened so easily and far too often for my liking in 2014 )

Maybe JT and our S&C staff can bring out the best in him but personally i think that's a thing of the past. Hopefully i am wrong as i do like Chris!
