FITNESS & GYM

wed: did leg presses, slowly getting upper right thigh muscles to work again.
not sure of the name of the exercise:
you hop using one leg then walk forward out of it when done.
left side good, right leg/foot lifted about 3 cm off the ground. getting there.
fri: walking and lunging forward, to get more bend in right knee area. walking upstairs ok, downstairs clunky.
mon coming : heading back for more

Sorry, guys, I haven't read all of what preceded this and I hope I'm not repeating or boring people but......as I mentioned before, I bumped into Junior Pearce a few weeks back and, during a chat we both agreed (as fellow 59 year olds) that to keep moving, get into a regular fitness routine where it became a habit, was very important if you wanted stay active in mind and body.
Regarding my weekly regimen, I weight train in the gym 4 or 5 times a week, go for a morning swim 5-6 mornings a week and I cycle on Sunday mornings. Other than the advantages just mentioned, I find that I sleep better, feel mentally and physically cleansed and, obviously feel stronger. On top of this, I know it strengthens bones and helps ward off potentially worse back pain than I already suffer. When a local spinal specialist heard that I was doing weight training on my back he said keep doing it!

Junior, what a legend!

What do you mean by "weight training on your back" mate, specific exercises targetting your back?

Ha, yes, I mean specific back exercises using free weights and machines. Some of these are quite arduous but very important for building core strength and developing surrounding muscle to support a dodgy spine!

Are u talking about...

DEADLIFTS

No not dead lifts Demps. I used to do them but they hurt my back and I realised that it was absolutely critical to get the form right. If you don't the consequences can be dire. There are many other alternatives such as standing rows, various machine exercises that work the deltoids. To be honest I can't tell you all the names. I just do them, about 6!

Really interested in this, can you describe the others? I can follow up with searches, you don't need to be techno correct!

Glad to help you Barra! When I next go to the gym, maybe today, I'll find out the names of the apparatus and post them on here for everyone.

What did you do to yourself Tah?

In May I tripped up a step going into a communications hut and landed heavily with right knee impacting on chequer board steel plate on floor.
MRI found a thing called PVNS ( giant cell tumour - **benign** - of the tendon sheath ) in right knee area. Resulting in late August having knee surgery an Arthrotomy ( similar operation and recovery time when opening knee up for ACL / knee replacement.

Geez, at least the tumour was benign. All the best with your recovery mate.

How's it been?
Hopefully all still putting the work in.

I been mixing the routine up.
Chest/Bis

I intend to lift some king browns tonight while watching the Tigers stream. Get those biceps going.

what CB said...only thing to tear.... is some tissues if things go bad...

Monday, leg presses, using single leg let the device come back slowly to about right angle, then push away using to legs.
Squats,
Nordic upper thigh stretches.
A shoulder lift where you pick up 10 weight, in left hand from floor bring it up beside body then at the weight reaches your shoulder you push it straight up above your head.
Then a " suitcase carry', have a single dumb bell weight in on hand carry it for a certain distance. then swap the dumb bell to other hand.
Wed stretches.
Fri mow back and front lawns, up hill slope when pushing up from street access.

am 94kgs at the moment - I should only be around 77kgs as per my height - will start going to the gym again next week - Strive Fitness Parra - we shall see how we go :joy:

Perhaps I intend to get so pissed that I'll time travel and watch the game tonight?

Looks like those plans are on hold until tomorrow. For some reason I thought it was tonight.

I’ve been lazy lads
Been starting work at 4am and my daughter has decided sleep isn’t necessary 😂
But still managed to get two workouts this week.
