@jirskyr It made perfect sense.

Do you walk into a bookstore and ask the worker "Should i read the book store literally"?

Nope, because an intelligent adult should be able to differentiate what they are reading and apply the necessary context to it. You read the WW2 section differently than the comic book section. The Bible is no different, it is a collection of books written by different people in different genres for different purposes. If you can't differentiate then there are thousands of years worth of commentary to assist you. What else do you want, for people to sit there and turn the pages for you too ???

You've thrown about 50 sh*t balls at the wall this morning, and hoped one would stick. None did so you ended today's adventures with a generalised rant about everything and nothing .... um, thanks, i suppose.

Politely, I'm not going to discuss it any more - not ignoring your comments, but you have your opinion and that's cool.

I can't believe Folau's arrogance to continue with this. Society is shutting him down at every turn, at what point will he just go home and keep his big mouth (and fingers) silent?
You can't go around hating on people today. Whether they be black or white, asian, gay, straight, young or old. It doesn't matter. Treat everyone with respect while in public. What you say at home with your family and friends is your business but common decency applies in public.

Meanwhile in the real world...$848,000 raised in less than one day

That is before gofundme give the $750,000 back to those who donated.

If you read social media you can be forgiven for thinking everyone is anti christian. You only have to look at the census to see how many still identify as Christian. Most still aren’t sure what they believe about the Christian God, but they do believe something...

A friend was on the Panel a little while ago. He made a good observation. Every panel member except for him was from the electorate of Wentworth...

The media stopped representing the average Aussie two decades ago. Gone are $40k per year journalists. Today it’s just semi famous people with a profile (rather than skill) from the Eastern suburbs.

@diedpretty

Name me one hypocritical Christian teaching. Just one. I've spent a lifetime searching for one, so please set me on the right path.

I'll be waiting patiently.

Go ahead and wait Abraham - i'm sick of your constant rants of the things you believe and the way you try to force your views down everyone elses throats - the original post you were complaining about was " there is hypocrisy in religions " - you said that was an empty cliche and i said it wasn't it was a fact - there is hypocrisy in religions - nowhere did i say anything about christian teachings but as you usual you put a slant on what was said to push your own agenda.

96.1% in 1901 and 52.1% in 2016. 2001 estimate was that 8.8% of Australians attend a Christian church on a weekly basis.

That's a lot of folks that claim to be of Christian heritage but don't bother visiting church each week as commanded.

Does an employer have a right to fire you over expressing a religious belief away from the workplace?

Did the ARU write an unconscionable contract with stipulations around freedom of expression in personal time?

These are all pretty fair questions that Israel is challenging legally.

So without coping a blast from everyone... We have 24 pages + on a guy that is not even allowed back in the NRL in our Recruitment and Rumours.. Not trying to piss people off but I go into this tread to look at possible signings etc..

I wouldn't bother clicking on this thread again if I were you then...lol

Depends on how you express that belief. My workplace has a social media policy that advises me that there will be repercussions if I post anything that denigrates the organisation, individual employees of, contractors, owners or stakeholders, can be considered racist, sexist or demeaning or undermining any particular group. This applies even if this is done on my personal accounts without any reference to my employer.

This is not part of the award, or specifically referenced in a workplace agreement, but it forms part of the terms of employment.

The thing that really ticks me off about this whole affair is that if the Grand Mufti or some prominent person from the Muslim community publicly espoused similar views to Folau we wouldn't hear a squeak about it from anyone, especially in the media. It would be quickly swept under the rug and forgotten about immediately because everyone is too 'scared' to disagree with them. That is the whole hypocrisy of it all.

Have to call you out on that, as it is absolute rubbish! It would be on the front page of all major print media and the lead story on many of the networks.

It would also be all over social networks, just as similar crap proliferates there now.

Yeah, pretty sure it would be big news.

I worry for the future of this country when there is contraversy about how an individual chooses to fund his legal right to a review of his termination. My personal view is the ARU and interest groups are concerned the ruling of the independent body will go against the outcome they seek.

Well when that individual earns millions a year and owns 7 million dollars worth of property, of course people are going to raise their eyebrows. It's a bit of a hide isn't it?

We live in a democracy and those who choose to donate do so voluntarily. It does not matter what mechanism is used as long as it is lawful. The amount of money that had been donated in a very short period of time on the GoFundMe page signifies strong support for his stance. This ver public display of support is not consistent with the narrative interest groups opposing Folau want publicised.

Someone posted a few pages ago that in 2015 GoFundMe changed their guidelines so no one could raise money for their legal fees. So what of that?

If this is the case, then I do have to agree why did GFM allow the egg boy legal fund to go ahead? It clearly stated on the egg boy fundraiser that it was for "legal fees and more eggs." Unless there is a clear distinction between this and Folau's case GFM could have painted themselves into a corner here.

As said earlier, if people wanted to donate to him that was fine. If Christians, freeze peach champions etc wanted to donate to a millionaires legal costs that was fine. At the end of the day while the hilarity of it all was enjoyable, they are all free to make their own choices on how they want to spend their money.

My final thought on this is that I worked for a major supermarket in the recent past and it was made extremely clear that social media activity that could result in negative publicity and/or outcomes for the employer could result in termination. If Folau thinks he's wronged, that's fine, the legal system is there to seek fair adjudication. If he wants people to fund his legal costs and they wish to partake, that's fine as long as no one is coerced. If it all goes against him in the end he'll have to realise that while he clings to this mortal coil he's answerable to more than just his creator.

Someone has probably already answered this, but I thought the fact that he was requesting funding to fight for his right to discriminate did not meet the criteria.

my DAD may he rest in peace, always told us kids sticks and stones will break ur bones but words will never hurt u. may be every one needs to step back a bit and stop taking every thing to heart. but its so funny that only one thing on his list HAS CAUSED A STORM, i bet it all comes back to one persons dislike, the bloke in charge of QANTAS.

Tell that to my mate who's 9 year old is suffering from bulimia as a result of words, or talk to any mental health professional about how much more damaging words are than (other than extreme non-lethal) violence.

I listened to that same crap growing up and often the same people that would talk about gays or lesbians choosing to be so, with my parents amongst them. They are in their mid eighties now and have long awoken to their foolishness, but my sister has yet to fully get over the hurt caused by the past ignorance.

Arguably the clearest piece of journalism on the Folau issue was published in the South China Morning post back in May.

It’s a shame we have to go to China for quality journalism...

It’s worth a read. You may be very surprised by the wording of RA’s inclusion policy.
....

“Rugby Australia has a number of codes of conduct, one being an 11-page document called an “Inclusion Policy” which looks to protect gay and lesbian people who choose to play rugby. Down on page three is the kicker under bullet point 1.4:

“Rugby AU recognises that both intentional and unintentional homophobic behaviour exist within society in Australia, and that this can have adverse and potentially significant consequences for some individuals and our game.” Thus, continues the policy, “rugby has and must continue to be a sport where players, officials, volunteers, supporters and administrators have the right and freedom to participate regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or religion and without fear of exclusion. There is no place for homophobia or any form of discrimination in our game and our actions and words both on and off the field must reflect this”.

The key word in this is “religion”. Take it out and everything is fine, but by including that word, Rugby Australia is stating Folau has the right to play, and the freedom to practise his religion. Posting homophobic comments on social media may be crude, but ask anyone on the planet, this is what religious people do, they spread the word of God, however filthy and unsound it may appear.

" this is what religious people do, they spread the word of God, however filthy and unsound it may appear."

Agree on this part.
