Nobody's surprised that the Christian right has swung in to support Folau - he is the perfect poster-boy for their lobby and funding him anonymously would be great, to avoid specific personal attention.

I worry for the future of this country when there is contraversy about how an individual chooses to fund his legal right to a review of his termination. My personal view is the ARU and interest groups are concerned the ruling of the independent body will go against the outcome they seek.

Well when that individual earns millions a year and owns 7 million dollars worth of property, of course people are going to raise their eyebrows. It's a bit of a hide isn't it?

We live in a democracy and those who choose to donate do so voluntarily. It does not matter what mechanism is used as long as it is lawful. The amount of money that had been donated in a very short period of time on the GoFundMe page signifies strong support for his stance. Someone posted a few pages ago that in 2015 GoFundMe changed their guidelines so no one could raise money for their legal fees. So what of that?

If this is the case, then I do have to agree why did GFM allow the egg boy legal fund to go ahead? It clearly stated on the egg boy fundraiser that it was for "legal fees and more eggs." Unless there is a clear distinction between this and Folau's case GFM could have painted themselves into a corner here.

Their rationale for taking it down wasn't because it was dedicated to raising legal fees, it was because they saw it as promoting discrimination or exclusion. It's like the poor bakers having to make cakes for all those gay weddings they despise, but in reverse...

@GNR4LIFE Egg Boy had no such difficulties with his fund raising. It appears the conditions vary according to how vocal special interest groups are. $750,000 plus in less than three days would make them very vocal.😃 In any case, he has a new fund raising page and there is little doubt all this opposition has done is galvanize support for Folau.

It galvanises people on both sides. Rifts deepen. None of this is positive.

Only one winner in all this, and it's the media who love garbage like this whole saga to sell papers and outrage, to both sides.

Dangerous territory there. You could argue that support of egg boy is sponsoring assault on public figures (cracking and egg on a pollie that has made inflammatory comments is relatively innocuous compared to trying to deck him, but at the end of the day is still assault.)

People are so easily outraged these days. By over reacting we have effectively made Folau an influencer instead of accepting that this is one mans view on how he chooses to live his life. I dont agree with any of it, nor does it effect me in any way.
There has been enough said by other so called"influential" people who denounce his views to give the discussion some balance - lets leave it at that.
Its no news about Folau's way of life, its only when he made a statement that made people uncomfortable that suddenly he has gone from pin up good guy, to lowest of the low, yet he is the same man he always was.

If everyone just accepted that we all dont walk to the beat of the same drum and that's a reality that will never change, we would all be better off and lawyers wouldn't be laughing all the way to the bank.

So a thread about one guy's instagram posts draws in all the unwashed filth and turns it into a Christian-bashing thread.

Great work guys, never let an opportunity pass to show your true bigoted colors.

Offended again Abe.......

@Spud_Murphy Of course Christian people are hypocrites.

But this bloke made a clear statements that the religion itself is hypocritical, so i want him to explain that lie.

Fair enough, should be interesting.

Well the first and easiest one is - systematic cover-up of sexual misconduct by clergy or religious orders within Christian Churches, particularly Catholic Church. That is hypocrisy

Then the assertion that The Bible is 100% the true word and instruction of God and an accurate recount of the design of the world by God and the life of Jesus. But then picking and choosing which components of the Bible to actively apply.

@gallagher Offended by you?

Calling you a hypocrite doesn't mean i'm offended. Its just means you're a hypocrite.

Its not complicated.

I don't know if he recognises the irony, of accusing some people of being excessively offended, then he himself being highly offended in turn.

It's easy for people to be offended, don't take offense to that! Advice is cheap, you can take it from me! I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate!

I always like the Bill Hicks joke:
"Hey buddy, we're Christians and we don't like what you said."
"Well then, forgive me!"

my DAD may he rest in peace, always told us kids sticks and stones will break ur bones but words will never hurt u. may be every one needs to step back a bit and stop taking every thing to heart. but its so funny that only one thing on his list HAS CAUSED A STORM, i bet it all comes back to one persons dislike, the bloke in charge of QANTAS.

@jirskyr two swings and two misses.

You're making the mistake of confusing the religion (i.e. the teachings of Jesus) with the actions of people who call themselves Christians. Every Christian is a hypocrite - i certainly am. That doesn't make Christianity hypocritical though.

I'll make it simpler for you. Give me an example of a teaching of Jesus Christ that is hypocritical.

@jirskyr Nah, mostly leftwing atheist loonbags... those same handwringers who complain about their own white privilege.

Is the left-wing atheist loonbag the natural opponent of the right-wing Christian loonbag?

The world needs another Bill Hicks. He and George Carlin would have a field day with both the left and right extremes floating around today.

Did adam and eve start civilization?

I view this as a court case as to whether Folau was dismissed unfairly. It takes the heat out of the argument. We should remember that Folau belongs to an extent powerful evangelical church internationally. If it mobilizes for this hearing it could mean the end of the ARU. I believe if I I were Raelene, I"d be extremely concerned in the direction this is headed. Remember some very good players and men at our club belong to this church.

@gallagher Is this your way of asking if the book of Genesis should be taken as a literal narrative? Just be clear and i'll be happy to try and answer whatever you're scratching at.

So Izzy from what I can work out is coming to the WT's , but for home games he will need to rent the Popemobile

We will be signing him by using GoFundme as a TPA

I’ll tell you why it’s the only thing on the list that has caused a storm. Among the other names on the list are alcoholics and adulterers. Not exactly pillars of society that people would race to defend. Both types of people choose to be those things. And both those things tear families apart. Being gay doesn’t, or at least shouldn’t in a sane world.
