It’s simple. He’s entitled to his views, as misguided as they are. And potential employers have the right to not want someone expressing those views representing them. Explaining this to some is akin to what it would be like handing an IPhone to a caveman and trying to explain how to use Safari.

Or explaining it to someone who believes their opinion must be the only correct one.
God help the poor misguided. ?

We all have our opinions and we all believe them to be right which is why we believe them. That’s not an argument.

It takes a very self aware person to recognise, understand and believe that their own opinions are only that, only opinions, and I doubt many people at all if any have gotten to that point.

It will be interesting to see if Folau has learnt his lesson of not saying that stuff in public. Id be surprised if he has learnt his lesson, but id also be surprised if Catalans didnt put something in the contract telling him to keep his comments out of the public spectrum.

Everyone has opinions about how we should all live our lives
As a high profile sports person you have to be prepared for a backlash if you voice you opinions on social media
There was absolutely no need for Folau to post what he did
Wether you agree with his comments or not I believe it is wrong to post these comments
What was he hoping to achieve anyway

I can see a squirrel grip coming Folau's way

Different people find different things offensive.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with giving people your personal opinion on a topic as long as it’s your personal opinion and you’re not pretending to talk for someone else.
Folau never said he was speaking on behalf of anyone except himself, and the Bible.
Never said he was talking on behalf of players, sponsors or Rugby Union... in fact never said anything hateful.
References were made that all sinners (whether you believe in his interpretation of sinners or not) should repent before they die to enter Heaven.
Not once has he ever mentioned he hated any of these sinners, although it has been twisted that way by most commentators who believe that’s what ‘modern society’ wants to hear.
Plus it sells papers.
His ‘celebrity’ detractors certainly don’t have any problem putting their opposing views and personal attacks in the media.
But wait... they seem to think they talk for everybody.
If you don’t agree you’re obviously a red neck racist homophobe or a Bible bashing moron.
All hateful assumptions you would think... no redemption on offer?
Funny world we live in when if you state your religious beliefs (and his are way different to mine) you are made a pariah, while others in the same world are lauded for their criminality.

Meh. I personally don't care what Folau says, as much as I think he's moronic. BUT, if he makes public comments that he knows will enrage his employer's sponsors, expect to cop the consequences. If I said anybody would burn in hell, I'd be sacked within 12 hours, regardless of the religious rationale.

Freedom of speech means he can say what he wants. It also means people can say he's a homophobe. Which he is.

So pleasing sponsors is more important than freedom of speech?
What’s next?
Can’t have a different view to the government without repercussions?

No one has said this... Just you twisting things. Grow up

I was responding to Masterton's comment (and quoted it) and regards to what happens next if we stifle free speech just because it's controversial.
Here's part of it again, you obviously didn't bother to read it - "if he makes public comments that he knows will enrage his employer’s sponsors, expect to cop the consequences".
Seems a natural progression to people with different views being shut up if it becomes the norm.
Telling me to grow up lol?
Typical boorish attempt at putting someone down.

We live in a weird day and age where someone can re-post a christian meme on their personal Instagram and all hell breaks loose.

Not in this country the way protest legislation is going, not to mention special privileges religious legislation currently forming to give a group rights to discriminate.
