Fonua Pole #257

If we read between the lines, spoke is anti g massive overs in order to de-sign with us.
We are not in a position to pay him massive overs and still have the funds to try and recruit some more quality players to bring our overall playing roster up to a reasonable standard.
If it was a choice between losing him ti another club at the end of next season, or having him extend with us with provisions surround out finishing position, I’d much rather take my chances and hope we can make the necessary improvement to remove any such clauses and make him want to stay.

no one has said “massive overs” … I used the term most in the market … he is probably worth more to us than anyone else

It is only a guess but i would not be very surprised if it is discipline issues that are the problem, unfortunately some of his family have had problems in that area
Roosters will go for another prop don't you worry.

Bulldogs will pick up Mayost likely

So losing players we need to retain and not being able to recruit the players we need because we will not entertain these clauses is a better option ?
A little bit of hope is better than no hope.
If they’re already looking at the exits they’re not the solution.

Yeah but how many sporting clubs have been as unsuccessful as as for the past 12 years and how many other sporting clubs have finished stone motherless last for three straight seasons ?
We have put ourselves in a unique situation and quality players are scared committing to us because of it, therefore we need to find creative ways for them to atleast give us a chance.
We have a potentially very good spine next year, it should be getting easier to sign and retain talent.

So the club announced just a few hours ago these are the men players leaving.

Solomon Alaimalo, Isaiah Papali'i, Aidan Sezer, Junior Tupou, Stefano Utoikamanu

I was hoping for more of a list but will trust the process.

Seems these players are all holding firm and will take a few years for the cleanout.

Hope we announce a new Major Sponsor ASAP to finally cut ties with old one

Look forward to hearing how the guys who are just going through the motions to collect a big pay check handle the pre-season. I suspect the crocodile roll starts day 1.

Strong mail that Skipp bins are interested in the front of jersey. They enjoyed our players bringing the bin back this year.

Apparently Josh King is off contact end of next year. I'd be looking to have a chat with him in 2 days.

Even if he asks 600-700k, it is fine IMO. He will probably give us 400-500k worth on the field and doesn't really bend the line. But, having someone like him take Pole, Matamua, Fainus etc under his wing could mean that our 400k players perform better.

The only forwards coach we have is Heighno and I don't have much faith in him and tbh I always found him quite overrated in our own team. We need to fill that forward leader/ mentor role and I think Josh King could give us that value.
Yeah I think you could be right.... I reckon he has leadership qualities in him... 140 odd nrl.games..he is tough and durable .. Plays big minutes and commands respect.
We need leaders, guys that will take control and inspire his team mates to wanna follow.

I dunno maybe I'm wrong but many times this season I saw our players as they'd just left the sheds with benjis words still.fresh their minds play their worst football... It seemed to improve as the clock Ticked on

Does it? Which are the rejects that the Tigers have signed recently? Luai? Turuva, Skelton?
Jack Bird

Dragons are pushing him out. Likewise Skelton.

You only push guys like that out to free up large cap space.
They will then use this to go for real gun players. Not saying we can't take advantage of this, but we need to keep in mind these are not John West signings.

Could be but they have Lindsay Collins, Spencer Leniu, Whyte and some good young props. They have huge depth up front.

I was sure you were going to compare the playing roster in some way to garbage rather than go down the lack of discipline route.

I guess that leaves the garbage route open for someone else because I'm really fighting the urge to do that. 🤣

So you want a similar situation like Stefano where he basically deliberately plays poorly to avoid Origin selection ?

Pole should sign say another two years through to 2027 .. no doubt he will be paid the highest amount of money in the market by the Tigers and will still only be 25 and young enough to move on then…
HAHAHA
You think Stefano deliberately played poorly to avoid origin?
Come on.

"His preference is to stay with the Tigers"..
That's all we need to know.
Trust the club to determine what we pay him and what he's worth.
