FYI Cronulla and Gold Coast Game Betting Cancelled

Really, I hadn't even thought of that connection. I don't think that Todd Greenberg would make up excuses for the Bulldogs like that. I think he is a pretty straight shooter and would tell us if that was the case. Is Canterbury even one of the clubs under investigation??? I don't think that your on the right track here at all "fade to black".

Are people now going to point the bone at any player who goes off with a mid to long term injury, thinking that their may be a devious plot to hide a drug cheat.

The Dog thing has nothing to do with whats going on at present , Greenberg and the Dogs stood Barba down for reasons that although not stated, are clearly not football related. I also take my hat off to the way they have handled the situation, massive call to stand your no1 strike weapon down, plenty of clubs would not have taken the same stance

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has been stood down in the wake of the scandal engulfing the NRL club.

Flanagan, who took over from Ricky Stuart at the helm of the club late in the 2010 season, has racked up a record of 21 wins from 56 matches in the top grade.

The former NSW State of Origin assistant coach is extremely popular with the Cronulla players and his absence is a major disruption just two days before the club's first match of the season, against the Gold Coast Titans at Sharks Stadium.

There are reports emerging that football manager Darren Mooney and head trainer Mark Noakes have been told their services are no longer required.

Advertisement Flanagan started his coaching career as Parramatta SG Ball coach in 1997 and after stints in the Roosters lower grades, he followed Stuart to the Sutherland Shire in 2007.

He took over late in the 2010 season when Stuart stood down.

Cronulla have been a club in crisis this week after ASADA officials told players they were facing minimum six-month suspensions due revelations they may have taken performance-enhancing drugs during the 2011 season.

The 2013 season was viewed as a new dawn for the club following the off-season acquisition of high-profile recruits Luke Lewis, Michael Gordon, Jonathan Wright, Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington to boost an already impressive roster which already boasted the likes of NSW captain Paul Gallen, Todd Carney and Wade Graham.

As I said with Humphrey's. The fish rots at the head. Now that Flanagan has been stood down (in other words there is a probably a clause in his contract that is stopping them from sacking like Sheens) it will be interesting to se what happens to their "Messiah" Irvine who is conveniently overseas during the biggest turmoil the club has ever faced. I wonder why?

All the people that had a shot at1/4 chicken chips should now enjoy the stench of rotten eggs on their faces now about the Cronulla thread a couple of weeks ago

Warned you all it was just a matter of the powers that be getting all their ducks lined up

**This will be as big as the Storm scandal once it is all said and done**

Rubbish, they need to strip premeirships for that to happen.

'08 and '11
Knights first tho

How dirty would Fifita be if Sheens ended up in Sharksville

and Gibbo/Heighno/Beau/Politini. Imagine Johhny Cronk would be feeling ok.

I don't think John will need to worry too much about the 2013 coach the way things are shaping.

poor move to stand down Flanagan IMO, unless they have clear obvious he knew what was happening and turned a blind eye. to me hes the sort of coach you'd love to have in this situation, back the players through anything, the fact hes still backing them is testament to this. not only that if they do indeed have to stand down 14 players then they will need one bloody good coach to make them even slightly competitive this year.

the only saving grace you'd think for them would be that all their new recruits should be clean and available to play, gotta feel for Luke Lewis though, he moves away from a shithole like the Panthers in the hope of having some well deserved success and then this happens

Yes dermo. Sometimes the devil you know is better. Hope Robbie sees this when considering his options post 2013.

Cronulla could very easily go down the gurgler if all 14 players or the six that have continued the drug usage in 2012 are suspended

As I said when this originally hit the fan these blokes were going to be given a certain time frame to come clean or face the consequences

So losing an NRL side altogether isn't a bigger deal than a team being stripped of 2 premierships ??

Sponsors will be dumping the Sharks quicker than a hot potato when this all fully breaks

NRL CEO Dave Smith has today given his support to the Cronulla Sharks Board as it implements wide-ranging management changes to provide certainty for players and fans in the 2013 season.

Mr Smith has also released details of a comprehensive support package which will benefit the Cronulla Sharks club, players and supporters.

The NRL support package includes:

• The appointment of Bruno Cullen, former CEO of the Brisbane Broncos, as Interim Sharks Chief Executive pending the finalisation of terms with the Cronulla Board early next week;

• A finance specialist to assist in managing the club’s operations;

• The secondment of an NRL Sponsorship and Marketing Manager to work with existing sponsors, corporate and charity partners;

• The secondment of an NRL Welfare Officer to provide welfare and education services to players and their families.

“The Board is acting decisively by putting in place management changes at the highest level,” Mr Smith said.

“Our focus is on supporting the club in a way that will give players, supporters and sponsors confidence in the future.”

Mr Smith said the addition of Bruno Cullen to the Sharks’ management team is an important boost to the club’s capabilities.

“Bruno has the skill and track record to successfully help the Board get through this difficult time.

“He is regarded across all sporting codes as one of Australia’s best sports administrators and club leaders.”

Mr Smith also today reiterated that the Sharks would field a team against the Gold Coast Titans this weekend.

“Earlier this week we asked ASADA to provide us with the names of any player it currently has sufficient evidence to request the NRL issue an infraction notice under our anti-doping code.

“The response we received back from ASADA was that its investigation continues and will for a number of weeks.

“ASADA indicated it is not currently in a position to request the NRL to issue any infraction notices. Without an infraction notice, the NRL will not stand down any player.

“Like players and fans, we share the frustrations they are feeling as the ASADA investigation continues.

“We would like to see a resolution and have today urged ASADA to move as quickly as possible.”
