G Burgess Eye Gouge

SHould have beena sinbin imo

Nope ...sent off...

@Cultured_Bogan bought this up in the game thread..he will do time with no benefit to Wests Tigers to which the incident occurred

When the NRL refs grow some balls and start marching players for this rubbish and things like deliberate crusher tackles watch how quickly it gets out of the game...Coaches don't want to be a player down

I saw the replay of the supposed gouge, I will beg to differ from everyone here... I don't think he did gouge coz otherwise he would've been trying to curve his finger tips and bury it in Robbie's eyes... but he shouldn't even put his hands there in the first place

Watching it again I tend to agree. Not sure it was an old school gouge, but a result of the crap wrestling techniques that are now an ingrained part of the game.
Find the head, grab it or get leverage and exert pressure to restrict movement and slow the play the ball down. I think the action would have been the same if Farah was face down and the hand was on the back of his head.
He got the face, and more importantly the eye, and will likely pay the price.

Eye-gouging isn't restricted to trying to scoop an eyeball out. Applying any kind of force to the eye be it by pressing or scratching or whatever amounts to an eye-gouge. He can't have not known that the squishy thing he was shoving his fingers into was an eye, nothing else feels like that...

I have thought for a while about how suspending players does not help the team that the dog act was committed against. My left-wing suggestion is that the next time the two teams play each other, the guilty team should start the game with a player in the bin. The bin time would be related to how many weeks he was suspended.

Take last night as an example, and assume that Burgess gets 5 weeks. Penalise them 1 player for say 4 minutes per week of suspension. After 20 minutes, the 13th player comes on the field. Note that the penalty would be against the team, not the player. So if Burgess went to another club (or back to England), the penalty would still apply to Souths.

If this was introduced, teams would definitely self-police to cut the crap out of the game. Of course, we would need to get some consistency in the judiciary or things could get ridiculous.

Don't call it that or Abraham will be in here calling you a snowflake and directing you to your nearest safe space...

This was disgraceful.
Agree that he should've been sent off but the big cat came off injured anyway and didn't come back.

NRL really needs to step their game up in regards to indiscretions and don't get me started on the salary cap joke.

Greenberg will be banging out a letter of support for Burgess as fast as he can, if it goes to the judiciary and if Burgess gets suspended will probably give souffs 500k cap relief.

Souths should have played a man down all night. Cold comfort for us.

Everyone knows how I feel about Robbie coming back etc but I have to give him credit for having the composure to not get up an rearrange Burgess' face.

I think if Robbie did react and it ended up in a brawl, Burgess would have been sent off on the advice from the bunker. The fact Robbie didn't react that way could mean it looks worse than it was??

Contact, definitely, but a gouge? Not so sure. Either way, he's in deep doodoo.

I don't know mate, the footage I saw it looked like he was applying serious pressure to his eye. Just because we wasn't trying to scoop his eyeball out it doesn't mean it isn't a gouge.

Absolute dog act. Bennett will be filthy. Rabbits gain nothing out of a grub act like that.

I think Robbie thought it was Cook and being pretty close from their time together at Souths he didn't react. He was probably a bit shocked.

Really if the the NRL want to be taken seriously they should throw the book at him. Suspend him for 10 weeks and come out publicly this week and instruct the refs to take no prisoners for this kind of offence. Straight send off for eye gouges.

George Burgess, is a talented footy player.
No need for this from him.
In life after footy, he should work for the petrol companies, he'd fit in well in an organisation that gouges people.

Round 15 charges: George Burgess referred straight to judiciary

South Sydney prop George Burgess has been referred straight to the NRL judiciary after being hit with a dangerous contact charge following an incident involving Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah.

The NRL match review committee charged Burgess with making contact with the eyes of Robbie Farah in the seventh minute of the match at Bankwest Stadium. It's the second time in eight months Burgess has come under scrutiny for contact with the eyes of an opponent.

The Rabbitohs was prop suspended for four weeks last year playing for England against the Kiwis after being found guilty for a contrary conduct charge on Dallin Watene-Zelezniak.

If the NRL are fair dinkum he's got to sit down for at least 4 weeks. The inconsistencies between Maguire doing it twice in the space of a few weeks and just copping a fine, compared to the young bloke at Canberra copping 4 weeks is nothing short of a disgrace.

We've seen blokes sent to the bin for high tackles this season, what Burgess has done to Farah is just as if not more dangerous.

Greenberg said he can't promise consistency, but he can promise fairness. Well I'm yet to see either from the NRL on any matter.

Well whatever Burgess gets, it will include a 50% loading because of his previous history.
So he’s sure to get a nice holiday.
Maybe has played his last game for Souths?
And let’s not forget the relative inaction of the game officials last night - why was this not a send off??

No fairness under Greenberg just favouritism and hypocrisy
