Plus 2 new Life Members Inducted...

Premiership-winning fullback Brett Hodgson and Coach Tim Sheens have today been named as Life Members of Wests Tigers at the Club’s annual Grand Final Luncheon.

The pair join Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall (both 2013 inductees), Mark O’Neill and John Skandalis (both 2014 inductees) as the only six Life Members of Wests Tigers.

Both Hodgson and Sheens were involved with Wests Tigers’ maiden premiership-winning team in 2005, having moved to the joint-venture Club shortly before that season.

After originally beginning his career with the Western Suburbs Magpies in 1997, Hodgson moved to Parramatta in 2000 for four years, before joining Wests Tigers in 2004.

The Campbelltown junior produced career-best form shortly after in 2005, where he broke a myriad of Club and NRL records en route to being named the Dally M Fullback of the Year.

Returning to the State of Origin arena in 2006, Hodgson played three further seasons with Wests Tigers, before leaving at the end of 2008 to join Huddersfield in Super League.

Last year, Hodgson was voted as Fullback in Wests Tigers Team of 15 Years.

In total, Hodgson played 103 games for Wests Tigers, scoring 39 tries, 317 goals and 786 points — making him the second-highest points-scorer in Club history behind Marshall.

Sheens took over as Head Coach of Wests Tigers in 2003, and took the Club to it’s first finals series in 2005, which ended with the Club winning it's maiden premiership.

That season, Sheens was also named the Dally M Coach of the Year.

Continuing on with Wests Tigers in 2006, Sheens remained with the Club until the end of the 2012 season, taking the Club to the finals on two further occasions in 2010 and 2011.

In total, Sheens coached the Club for 249 matches between 2003 and 2012, with 122 wins and 127 losses. His 49% winning percentage is the highest in the Club’s history.

Wests Tigers congratulate Brett and Tim on their induction as Life Members of the Club.

Recently appointed Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has ensured he isn't looking to rebuild the club, rather he's out to "re-engineer" it.

Speaking at the Tigers' Grand Final Luncheon on Friday, Pascoe said he's chasing success from the get-go, before outlining the charter he'll utilise in hope of eventually achieving the club's second premiership.

"As an organisation we really need to rethink how we do our business on a daily basis and perform our operational activities. Our focus must remain outcome-driven in everything we do," Pascoe said.

"Mediocrity in our daily activities will not be accepted – not today, not tomorrow and not ever. As a part of the rethinking process innovation will be an enormous driver in our collective desire to gain competitive advantages both on and off the field.

"My charter is to create a sustainable business on and off the field and to truly create that we really need to start applying some real simple business applications across our activities.

"We need to re-engineer the club in a way where equity goes back into the brand Wests Tigers, developing assets and revenue streams outside of our normal activities.

"We need to invest in the football program, constantly reviewing our position and benchmarking ourselves. My aim is to give the playing group and the coaching staff all the tools they need to make sure they're the most competitive outfit possible on a weekly basis."

Pascoe also said the club must engage with the Wests Tigers brand itself, ensuring anyone who involves themselves with the club realises its importance.

"It's an enormous opportunity and a brand that has over 300,000 fans and we're one of the largest geographical and fastest economic-growth in the Western Sydney and South-Western corridors in Australia," Pascoe said.

"Undoubtedly it's a great challenge but we have to ensure the Wests Tigers becomes something that all fans, members, external and internal stakeholders, staff, players are really excited about joining. Not just for the short term but for the medium-long term."

It isn't all sunshine and lollipops for Pascoe though.

Walking into the club amidst their contractual standoff with captain Robbie Farah, Pascoe remained vitally optimistic.

"I acknowledge there are extreme challenges ahead for all of us but I certainly acknowledge too that the greater the difficulty the more glory we can all have surmounting it. A good saying I like to use is 'good pilots gain reputations from flying in stormy conditions'. Let's become good pilots," he said.

"As an organisation we need to become focused on simply executing and doing. I will quote the 26th president of the United States of America [Theodore Roosevelt] who said: 'In any situation the best thing we can do is the right thing, the second best thing is the wrong thing. The worst thing you could be doing is nothing at all'."

Wests Tigers fullback James Tedesco has today been awarded the Club’s 2015 Player’s Player of the Year Award.

The honour was announced at the annual Wests Tigers Grand Final Luncheon at Doltone House – Darling Island Wharf.

Tedesco was also awarded the Members’ Player of the Year award for what was a brilliant season from the Camden Rams junior, scoring 17 tries in 24 appearances.

The annual event also recognised the induction of two more Wests Tigers Life Members in Tim Sheens and Brett Hodgson – with the 2005 premiership winners joining Robbie Farah, Benji Marshall, Mark O’Neill and John Skandalis on the illustrious list.

Sheens coached Wests Tigers for 10 seasons, including the 2005 Grand Final victory, while Hodgson broke numerous Club records during his 102-game career with the joint venture.

With Tedesco picking up two out of three NRL awards on the day, Kyle Lovett took out the remaining honour of NRL Rookie of the Year.

Lovett made 21 appearances during the season and joins a number of big names to take out the award in previous years including Luke Brooks, Aaron Woods and Chris Lawrence.

Josh Drinkwater (Coaches Player) and Kurtis Rowe (Player’s Player) were the NSW Cup award winners after impressive seasons respectively.

In Holden Cup, prop forward Junior Tatola was named Coaches Player for his efforts during the season, while up and coming hooker Jacob Liddle was awarded Player’s Player of the Year.

Wests Tigers presented the annual Woman of the Year award to Leoni Barnett for her contributions during 2015.

Another award presented at the event was the prestigious Clubman of the Year honour, which was given to trainer Paul Tape for his tireless contributions to Wests Tigers over the past 16 seasons.

‘Sticksy’ has been involved with Wests Tigers since the Club was formed in 2000 and is currently the trainer for both the NRL and Holden Cup sides.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe reiterated the importance of recognising each award winner on their achievements this season.

“I would like to congratulate each award recipient today at our Grand Final Luncheon,” Pascoe said. “They are all very deserving of their awards for their efforts and achievements at the Club this year.

“We also welcomed a further two Life Members in Brett Hodgson and Tim Sheens, who have both made significant contributions during their time at Wests Tigers and it’s important that we recognise them for that.”

Over 600 guests were in attendance on the day, with this year being the first time that the annual event was held at the picturesque Doltone House.
