So when he dies, so do the Roosters?

In any event, this type of thing shouldn't be allowed, could be a bit hard to enforce though

It's not only Politis there are a bunch of Millionaires on the Rorters board.

The roosters are very smart on who they invite onto their board. There's nothing they are doing thst we couldn't be doing. He talked about paying for Harvard, that exemption is available to all clubs.

If it’s as easy as “There’s nothing they are doing that we couldn’t be doing” then every team would be doing it. But they aren’t because the majority of clubs don’t have a host of millionaire businessmen backing them.

The thing to remember with nearly all the clubs caught cheating the salary cap is that they get caught well after they started doing it.

To my knowledge, the NRL investigators have never really caught anyone cheating the cap. Errors by cheating club personnel, self reporting, whistle-blowers or proper investigative journalists have only ever led to penalties.

I didn't say it wss easy, I said they were smart.

The funny thing in recent years it’s Parra, us and the Sharks who have fell foul of the salary cap auditors.

It’s like the ATO busting a guy on 40 grand a year for making false dry cleaning claims and letting a bent company director on a squillion go without even a audit.

It’s the people who run the system who stink not the people who rort

Beautiful analogy and so true.

Let me add perspective to my frustration:

I have 2 close mates that I spend a lot of time with - both Rorters supporters. They are dear friends but their arrogant swagger as they head towards back to back premierships is sickening. I just can’t wish them luck because it’s all garbage - their team cheat!! It’s driving me crazy!!
One mate offered my wife and I tickets to go with him to the game. I told him to stick them up his...

Wow, you’re friends with both the Roosters fans. How unlucky is that?

Well we were off to a good start with Brydans, Harry and Jaycar - surely if you were smart and wanted to, you could make something out of that lot.

Just read the article. Very refreshing.
It's interesting to see this story break through the media bubble. The average fan could see this for the last few years. We talked about it at the pub, between other fans, but the media seemed to turn a blind eye. Now it seems the groundswell of sentiment has penetrated the bubble (including the other issues like Cameron Smith and Greenburg bias) and we are starting to have an open conversation. Hopefully, the bubble bursts with the new chairman and we can start operating under a legitimate fair competition... I won't hold my breath though.

Isn’t that like self reporting? Lol

I don't really believe anyone, other than Rooster supporters, truly believe we have a level playing field in the NRL. One week during the year I noted there were 12 either current or former State of Origin or Tier One internationals in the Roosters side. The side taking the field for the Tigers had six. Imagine if we could have included the following in our team taking the field that day - Josh Hodgson, Marty Tapau, Kalyn Ponga, Josh Addo Carr, Joseph Tapine, Regan Campbell Gillard. Oh yes, that's right, we could not fit them under the salary cap!! Yet the Roosters can have 12 on the field of similar or higher quality on any given day. Level playing field - rubbish. Go the Raiders.

@Tiger-Tarl The reason this article was objective is that it was written by a real sports journalist with no allegiance to anyone in the NRL . The current NRl journos are too hamstrung by the need to suck up to clubs and officialdom to ever go into this much depth.

Recent Roosters GF wins will probably rank about one tier above the wins stripped from the Storm in public opinion.

I get a sense that the general NRL public is just waking up to Politis and his cronies and they will be exposed for what they are; cheats!! Go Raiders!!

What about the Broncos? Obviously noone at the NRL understand conflict of interest. Apart from the fact that News Ltd own the Broncos and fox, can someone explain how people like Corey Parker and Justin Hodges (who can't get through a sentence) are being paid to commentate on the NRL?
I suppose the bar is set pretty low with nufties like Bwiath & Gasnier being paid to dribble on air for an extended period.

I agree with all of what you say, but not on Gasnier, he is quite good at reading play, and I don’t mind listening to him, the rest as you say, suck

A few Paragraphs from Malcolm Knox SMH today-Worth reading it all.

You get the picture of all the ways a player can benefit without touching the salary cap. **If someone associated with the Roosters, say, *cough* Nick Politis, says to a player, say *cough* Cooper Cronk, "I’ll make sure you’re looked after when your career is over, I’ve got mates who can help you with your MBA, whatever you want to do with your life, you’ll be taken care of", that’s not a breach of the salary cap rules.** In fact, under the education exemption, they can pay for three years at Harvard, if that’s what a player wants.

Or if someone says, "I’ve got a mate who’s a big fan of yours who would love you at our club", old mate can give the player and his family unlimited benefits for the rest of their lives. All the player has to do is trust the person who is insinuating the offer in the first place. *Cough*.

I would think that is a breach of the cap - that's what we got done for - promising a career after football setup by the club. Of course you would get around it by one of Politis cronies offering the MBA not Nick himself.

@diedpretty Yet we get penalised for offering a player that is **Leaving** the club a role after his playing career if he wants it.. We lose our CEO for 6 months, Salary cap breach for 2 years.... Roosters get nothing for paying for Cronk's after career pathway that has nothing to do with footy but HEY thats ok because the NRL loves them... Surely there has to be a media person out there with balls to bring this out and challenge the NRL....
To many double standards and its driving fans away.

Doubtful. Read the other day he has setup a property portfolio of $500m when he steps aside for the roosters.

Is there any published figures showing that the numbers of fans actually is decreasing? I know I personally feel more disenfranchised with it all, but is there any evidence for it?

It's not a cap breach if it's not provably connected to the club. The Tigers offered Farah a job *at the club*. Politis gets his mates to sort players out informally and unenforcably. As a player you'd be taking a risk with that sort of arrangement as you'd have no comeback if the funds dried up. But it's obviously a risk plenty are happy to take.

[Edit - as you suggested yourself]

Not sure about fans. But there's Reports today saying revenue has surpassed $500m for the first time.

The NRL won’t be around in 15 years as a major competition. It won’t last it’s the most imbalanced competition that has a salary cap I can think of in terms of talent distribution.

I agreed with you until this part. EPL and NFL have a salary cap technically and they aren't balanced at all.

AFL isnt balanced, you have the same super clubs around the top.

If St George winning 11 straight didn't kill rugby league, a few years of Roosters will not.
