Greg Inglis Super Thread!

He is very over weight and with his injury he needs to watch his diet or he will end up in the front row come the start of 2011..!

Saturday's Telegraph in Sydney had a table with him at 99kg ?????

That must have been from a 2005 profile - as he was the heaviest player in our 2009 4 Nations squad! I have no doubt that he will turn up to play with some extra kegs next year and that has the potential to bring him way back to the field!

He is no longer that long & lithe free running player from his teen years - and he lacks the commitment of a post-injury Meninga!

As such - I remain intrigued by Souths intentions! They should be wary - Owen Craigie was a potential superstar at 21 and a busted by 26!

Greg's turning circle has dramatically increased - and as such I hope they do risk him at fullback as is being widely suggested!

At this point in time Inglis is STILL contracted to the Storm! Are they trying to hold onto him? And, will they

ever release him? 😕

The Storm have also threatened Souths with Legal Action for having GI in thier branded clothing promoting Souths while he is still contracted to the Storm

From today's Telegraph by Matt Marshall:

THE NRL will not sanction Greg Inglis' $1.8 million move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in another stunning twist in his ugly contract saga.

The Daily Telegraph has learned NRL auditor Ian Schubert is set to prevent the realisation of Souths' contract with Inglis, penned after his shock walkout on the Brisbane Broncos earlier this month, and the Rabbitohs may have their own Hollywood star and owner Russell Crowe to blame.

It is now highly unlikely Inglis will play for the Rabbitohs in 2011 with Schubert resolved to voiding the foundation club's proposed three-year deal for the injured centre, who still remains contracted to his original club, the Melbourne Storm.

The boast of Crowe on Jay Leno's Tonight Show in the US has helped skittle the deal with the NRL's alarm bells ringing after the Souths owner revealed Inglis had been secured for three years on a deal worth "roughly about $1.8 million".

The $600,000-a-season figure Crowe alluded to ridicules Souths' attempt to have Inglis squeezed under next year's salary cap on a base salary of just $190,000\. It was to be topped up by numerous third-party deals that will now be ruled as obligatory under the salary cap.

The sobering reality of Inglis being lost to the NRL altogether is now the most likely outcome of his manager Allan Gainey's protracted hunt to find his star client a club with French rugby union left as his likely suitor.

"It must be frustrating for him [Inglis] but he has got an agent and frankly, that's what agents are for," NRL boss David Gallop said last night.

"I hope for Greg's sake it gets sorted out pretty quickly because we certainly want to see him be able to settle down and concentrate on his footy."

The Rabbitohs would have to shed a number of their blue-ribbon stars, headlined by club skipper Roy Asotasi, and Maroons Origin forward Dave Taylor to keep Inglis in their burrow in 2011\. It remains unclear if the club is willing to do so.

"It's frustrating Souths paraded him in their colours when it's not resolved," Gallop said.

"It's true that Greg's contract position is not resolved.

"Everyone involved has known for some time he is under contract with Melbourne Storm and needs both a release from that contract and the approval of the salary cap auditor."

The ineligible Rabbitohs deal shapes as another huge blow to Inglis who will undergo hip surgery today after earlier reconstructive surgery on both shoulders ruled him out of the Four Nations. His weight has already ballooned to 118kg.

Just weeks ago, Inglis had appeared to finally find a new club after his shock walkout on a written agreement to join the Broncos from the Storm on "compassionate grounds".

If forced out the door at Souths in wake of the NRL's stance Inglis may opt to accept offers from overseas with neither the Broncos or Storm willing or able to take him back.

It appears from this that the cap may be headed to the courts - if so rugby league could be in real trouble!!

Note: it also shows how good an operator Humphreys is in the manner he assured that the Lote deal was pre-approved by the NRL - rather than this crap that Richardson has tried to pull!!

Gainey has also proven himself to be corrupt & incompetent - the sooner his agent accreditation is reviewed the better!!!

he will just leave and end up in France for sure storm wont release him without having him cleared off their books and the NRL wont register a contract that does not represent his true market value of what he was at the storm which was 600k so i cant see one LEGAL way that any club would be able to afford him this season with all the limits that are put on the amount of 3rd party sponsors and the amount they can contribute

This is true Red. Gainey is out for his payday as well, and will move heaven and earth to increase his commissi… Whoops, sorry... I meant get his client the best deal :unamused:

I spoke with someone this week who knows him well and we spoke about the Brisbane thing, the Souths thing, but the interesting feedback about Greg is the Melbourne thing… To try and understand how he feels, we need to put the Money Talk aside, and look at this whole scenario from a personal perspective.

Basically Greg is very lost and confused. His problems wasnt with Brisbane, it is mainly with Melbourne and he is lost for words how Melbourne decided to cut him loose and built the story around his girlfriend. At the end of the day, Greg didnt want to leave Melbourne as it was his home and foundation. Those who understand a bit about Indigenous People will know how dis-stabiling this could been for someone like Greg. Basically his parents have said, we cant afford to feed you, so go somewhere else to find a feed.

The intriging comments where that Greg still isnt 100% convinced he wants to play at Souths, but feels a stronger connection with thier culture and decided to go in that direction. I'd say Rugby League might be the loser today regardless which club you support, as Greg 'IS' a superstar of the game and might be lost on the back of greed!

Souths (especially Richardson) have claimed they deserve plaudits from NRL fans for "keeping Inglis in rugby league"!

Ironically by enticing him to renege on a legal deal with the Broncos to accept an illegal deal with them - they may be the prime-movers in pushing him out of the game!

Sad…. Richo has always been to smart for his own good. His snide dealings go way back to the late 80's early 90's to his days at Eastern Suburbs in Brisbane.

Eat crap Richo!!!

This deal was shady at best, I wish they got caught next year.

I dont like these 3rd party deals.

Let inglis go - He is a turncoat.

Dogged NSW where he is from and now Boncos…

Nice one Rusty!!!

Greg Inglis' proposed contract with South Sydney was officially lodged with the NRL on Friday.

"It was sent by email to the NRL and we will wait to hear back from them," a Souths spokesman told AAP.

The 23-year-old has agreed to a three-year $1.8m deal heavily back-ended and involving third party agreements which Souths expect will allow him to fit under the salary cap.

However, NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert needs to ratify the contract before Inglis can officially be unveiled as a Rabbitohs player.

Inglis, who opted against signing for Brisbane last month - despite shaking hands on a three-year deal with the Broncos - has already linked up with the Souths playing group, despite having not yet been released by Melbourne.

The Queensland Origin centre and the Storm have yet to settle a $113,000 legal bill incurred in 2009, but Inglis' manager Allan Gainey is confident there will be no problems between the two parties.

"Once everything is sorted we will sit down with Melbourne and from the conversations we have had so far I do not see there being any problems working out what we need to do to secure the release," Gainey told AAP.

"We are just waiting now for the NRL and Souths to do their part, and once the contract has been approved then we will get to work. But at the moment we are just interested observers."

Gainey said the uncertainty over the move to the Rabbitohs was not concerning Inglis whatsoever.

"Greg's fine, he is a big boy. It is only November and there is plenty of time," he said.

"He has made it clear he wants to be a South Sydney player and we are confident he will be soon."

So what's next in the Inglis saga?
