The NRL should give channel 9 a big FU for suggesting this, and take their business elsewhere.

i'm over these clowns, they treat the game with nothing but contempt.
Why do we have the head of a TV network giving his opinion on the way the game should be run i.e a second Brisbane team?
his opinions aren't worth crap considering his opinions are only based on whats best for his network getting ratings
if he wants to compare AFL to NRL why doesn't he compare the fact that the AFL show games live on Sunday,as they have for as long as i can remember, yet channel 9 with the NRL are still stuck in the dark ages showing the game on delay
GOOSE!!!!

This is a bit rich considering how many ads they cram into the second Friday night game.

With channel 9's multi channels (Go and Gem??? maybe), there is no reason why they can't show both Friday night games live as well. Show game 1 live on 9 and game 2 live on HD channel (which ever that is), then a 9:30 switch them and show both games on delay.

Gives the viewers a bit more choice about which Friday night game they see live and which one is filled with ads.

The only people they will upset are those wanting to see Top Gear re runs on a Friday night.

Isn't it enough that these tools make the Sunday game a chore to sit through?

Now they want to ruin the thing that makes our game great.

Run ticker tape adds like they do in the olympics at intervals rather than stop a live game for adds

Come on guys, things aren't free. You can't expect to get something broadcast into your living room without paying some sort of service charge. Would you prefer to sit through a few commercials (which really is just time to grab a new beer) or pay TV?

The AFL goes for longer and has more ad breaks, hence why it's worth more to the network.

Like it or hate it, the NRL is a product and it needs to be sold as such so that the players who go out there and risk dislocating hips to play this game, can get paid. If the product needs to be tweaked slightly to increase the competitiveness of the league, in turn retaining players and improving the product, then so be it.

Luckily, this year, a single FTA network won't be dictating the setup. The NRL will be able to weigh up several proposals and chose the best one for the game.

If this happens it will be the single worst thing to ever happen to the game.

It will nullify the effect the little men, who are usually the most talented, have on the game as the forwards wont be getting as tired.

It will destroy the game as a spectacle on tv.

Its not a show for christs sakes…its a sporting event!

I hope channel 7 or 10 see this as an opportunity to bid and get rid of 9 who have done nothing but suck off the game for years. Smeg couldn't have described it better in relation to the chore of watching Sunday afternoon football and now 9 want to include other ways to show adds and adjust the game to suit them while you're at it- give us a break!!
