HALFBACKS

Can we win the competition without a regular experienced halfback.. will these make shift halfbacks get us there ?
MOLTZEN,,' i say,' NO we can't..
Taumata,'i say', NO we can't..
LUI,' I say 'NO we can't..

Why not Moltzen @ 1/2 back?
While Marshall was @ 5/8 & Moltzen was @ 1/2 im pretty sure they hold a 100% winning record

Oh im making sense. 2006, finished 11th
2007,finished 9th
2008, finished 10th
2009,finished 9th..

2006….. We had Scott Prince.... 😕
2007....No Benji for half a season
2008.......No Props....
2009.....See 2008 when injuries and suspension struck.....

A recognised half would not have made that much difference IMO......

Moltzen the kid HATES losing... he has the talent, guts and determination to make the 7 his own ...he will be PART of something special in 2010...watch the Raiders Game down in Canberra from last year you will see what I mean.......

I can't understand this hatred of Moltzen at halfback. I would have thought our winning record with him at 7 would be very good.

Settle down people, Morris is nowhere in the side.

Finally we will have a new look halves pairing to start the season. The make up of that doesn't bother me as I think we have serious potential with any of Moltzen, Lui or Tamuata partnering Marshall. ANy of these guys will prove once and for all that Morris was a weak link in our attacking game. Thats one thing I can be sure of 2010 without a doubt in my mind!

There can't be any argument that the Moltzen and Marshall combo hasn't worked and therefore I'd be leaning that way. I haven't seen enough of Tamuata in defense but I'm confident Moltzen has the best defense out of all 3\. If Tuquiri comes in with fresh legs and has still got speed I'd have him at fullback and Moltzen at halfback. I do like Moltzen at fullback also though.

Tomcat….......I FOUND ONE.......
\

while halfback Mathew Head's unfulfilled talent will now be on display as he captain/coaches Illawarra side Dapto.

Oh........ we already tried him........

What people need to realise is that Benji will have the 6 on his back but he will be running the show playing at halfback… Moltzen I believe is the perfect foil for Benji...
So... 6.Benji & 7.Moltzen will do us wonders especially if we get Lote into the 1 jersey.

By the way does Moltzen have a nickname..?
I was thinking 'LAVA' as in Moltzen lava about to erupt...

I like it!…LAVA!

Oh but things did change when Moltzen went into the halves. It only came undone when Lui was put at halfback.

This reshufle was a result of Injury - Liu shouldnt be made the scapegoat for 2009\. We missed to many closed games.

We have been victims of the lack squad depth in some positions and the lack of maturity.

Im sorry Tomcat but obviously ur by urself on this one… I think Moltzens talent is goin to surface in this coming year and the next and will show everyone that he has what it takes to be a quality half... Y would u want to spend $400K on Orford when Moltzen will offer the Tigers more

I would hate to see Lui made a scapegoat for the failure to make the finals but for me Moltzen and Marshall seemed the winning combo.

Bring Lui on a little more before once agaiun throwing him into the pot.

The problem imo wasn't just the half back role but the balance in our halves. Marshall killed it this year, especially towards the end of the season after finally getting an entire season to control the ship. While we had Morris and Marhsall… there were numerous problems! The two players didn't gel well on the field and Marshall played (when he wasn't injured) some absolute clangers for the most part.

We are now looking at a combination of Moltzen and Marshall who play of each other very well. Molzten's ability in attack is much better the Morris' and this has taken some of the load from Marshall.

We also have two VERY good centers in both Lawrence and Ayshford who's games again help those in the halves immensely. Both centers are rock solid in defence and Ayshford now conveniently slots in at 5/8 while we are defending which easily allows Marshall to defend out wider.

We have what could potentially be one of the best buys for our club next season in Tuamata imo. He'll kill it and will be a great number 14 or 1.

Lui is a solid player who will add great depth to the first grade squad.

We have Tuquiri returning who will be devastating at fullback with his size and pace, the Tiges for the first time in a long time we will have a fullback who's return meters are going to seriously give us some great field position from the get go.

Our backline next year is going to be devastating! The half back is only as good as the blokes around him and balance imo is key. The individual ability of blokes in the backline can only win you so many games.

No way in the world would it be worth while buying another half (especially a bloke like Orford) when the horizon is looking brighter than ever!

Spot on IMO.

It is possible we don't need a specialist halfback as such.Simply because we have Marshall and Farrah to control the game up front and in the backs. The halfback position would be a supportive role to the other pair.If Tim Moltzen can fit in there then give him his chance. But I think we need someone to play here in a permanent role and not to keep on changing around during the season other then for injuries etc….......

I wasn't trying to knock Lui. It was just the wrong time to put him into first grade. We were on a winning streak with Moltzen and Benj in the halves. Moltzen had to stay at halfback and someone else had to be our at fullback. Unfortunately Sheens thought differently.

I was dissapointed when Moltzen had to be moved to fullback, he was doing well partnering Marshall in the halves. Sheens should have replaced the injured fullback and not changed two positions in order to fix one.

in moving moltzen to halfback i believe we are strengthening one position but greatly weakening another.

09 - gallant at fullback = not best under highball and not the best last line of defense
- moltzen at fullback = great under highball and great last line of defense
- JMo at half = boring ( apart from the great shot on thurston )
- moltzen at half = brilliant
