Have you been vaccinated?

I encourage everyone to do their own research with anything to do in terms of their health.

COVID is a little different because one person's choice affects everyone and the timing is extremely important too. We are under a time crunch, every day of lockdown affects the economy.

What also I have an issue with is people advocating against federal and global health advice regarding vaccinations.

Of course they are giving risk scenarios ! That's why, when I introduced the topic, I said it was their "worst-case scenario".

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
they aren’t predicting how many people they think will get COVID if it was to rip through

That's right. They are outlining a reasonable set of expectations based on actual real-world experiences with Covid.

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
But you have crunched and twisted the data,

What absolute garbage. First you accuse me of "misrepresenting" the data, and I pointed out that it was you who misunderstood basic concepts like Absolute Risk and Infection Fatality Rate.

Now you say I "twisted the data". How did I "twist" the data ? If I have produced a risk calculation that you don't like, then why don't you do the calculation and show me where i'm wrong.

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
and I am going to make a guess here that you were already vaccination-skeptic before you read the material. I.e. I am guessing you didn’t read the material first, then become concerned about the vaccine.

Not only was I skeptical of the gene based covid vaccines, I was also skeptical about the actual risk Sars Cov-2 posed for me. Hence my interest in risk.

My daughter's friend, who is an epidemiologist with the Australian Government, passed the document on to me.

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
And why just this one document?

Why not. It was produced by the Australian Government, so it has some credibility.

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
You are right that the nitty-gritty is irrelevant.

Now you are verballing me.

@jirskyr said in [Have you been vaccinated?](/post/1414982) said:
Don’t take the vaccine, but in doing to you increase your risk of serious illness and death, and increase the risk to the general community.

I will make the decision based on my calculation of the risks and benefits. That's why I would appreciate you demonstrating my mathematical errors.

One final thing about perceptions of risk, it was reported in the press that a research company, True North, asked people to rate their chances of dying if they were infected with the Delta variant.

Apparently, older respondents rated the risk slightly higher, and the young a little lower, but the average response was an astonishing 38 per cent.

Can you believe that - an IFR of 38%. The PHE data I linked for you had a CFR of not much more than 0.1%. People are being seriously mislead by the MSM.

After hitting 90% uptake here in the UK, the virus has been snuffed out in all the age groups except (surprise!) the ones that are yet to get jabbed (kids). The only people in hospital in ICU and dying at the silly people who declined the vaccine… you can’t help but laugh.

Nothing beats real-world data with a sample size of 60million!

In other words, the vaccines have worked!

We finally open up fully here on Monday! I’m Looking at some places to travel to, maybe Spain or Crete?

Thank you AZ and PZ!

Have you heard anything about when the UK is opening up to vaccinated EU travelers yet?

I’ll be on the first plane to London as soon as they let me.

Has it really been snuffed out? According to the official statistics, the UK had 183,406 new cases and 213 deaths this week.

It’s already open mate.

I went to Sicili last month and came back without any issues. You have to take a day 2 test (this is fair) but otherwise it’s fine.

Only red-list countries have to quarantine in hotels.

Glad that you asked.
Here are some pretty graphs from the ONS from 9 July.
Note, ONS is always about two weeks behind. The more recent ZOE survey shows that the peak was passed last week, thanks to the vaccines.

Tip for young players: 20's age band only became eligible in the second half of June.

oh and this stat:

No fully vaccinated person under 50 has died in the UK.

I’m in Switzerland which is an amber country so u dear the current rules I would have to quarantine on arrival. But I just checked and it’s changing from19 July. I’m on it.

Let's find a pub in London and watch a tigers game!

...on second thoughts, that might be too depressing ?

Here are some pretty graphs from the ONS from 9 July.

The official stats for yesterday were 36,660 cases and 50 deaths. That's more cases in a single day (when you're suggesting it's snuffed out) than we've had in the entire pandemic.

Given restrictions are going to be removed entirely in a couple of days it may be premature to believe everything's dandy.

Even with a low death rate, higher and higher case numbers will logically increase the number of deaths. I'm not sure I'd be happy with the decision but regardless I hope you're OK.

You will need to get your Day 2 test.
I used these guys, they were pretty good and cheap:

https://www.testingforall.org

Just book it in ahead and get the home test delivered to your house/hotel

I’m down. I’m perennially disappointed but never depressed. West’s Tigers supporters are so used to having to be resilient that we will outlive cockroaches when the Armageddon comes.

Is testing the only prerequisite to travel within Europe, or is it restricted to those who have been vaccinated?

So, AstraZeneca jab one today.

If I don't report back tomorrow, please may the Tigers win on the weekend in tribute.

Not a good night.

Felt fine until 13 hours post injection then started to get the chills. Three and a half hours of violent shivering later I felt like I'd run a marathon. Electric blanket on full and couldn't wear enough clothes to stay warm. Splitting headache which has eased a bit now. Due for next Panadol in 15 minutes so hopefully that will return me to normal.

If this is an indication of how you feel when you get the actual virus, book your vaccine!

Hang in there mate - one of my work mates got a similar reaction to his second Pfizer shot but then you have others who just get a sore arm for a couple of days.
