Have you moved on to support the Weststigers

The club is in ruins because of those who havent embraced it. These fools who continue to hang on to the past may just ruin the future as a result.

Did you embrace the Balmain influence of the WT or WT for who they were.

I embraced the wests tigers.

As an old balmain fan i would even support them if they went back to the magpies thats how much ive embraced Wests. Shame many others havent

One of the true marks of acceptance imo is feeling just as comfortable referring to the club solely by the name of the other side of the JV from which you came.

I used to make a point of calling the team 'Wests Tigers' or even 'Wests'.

But in recent times I've caught myself calling them 'Tigers' so if that is the case I pass GNR4LIFE's test…

I think having kids that know nothing else really helps. It would be harder for the older ones like my Dad, who hasn't truly embraced the merger and who spent most of a lifetime following one side of the merger.

It's funny you should mention this. Many times when someone asks who I support, I answer Tigers most of the time, Wests Tigers some of the time, but all the time I finish with my origins are Magpies. Is this common with you guys.

No, I have never embraced the joint venture, and never will. Once a Magpie, always a Magpie. What ever happened to dad's passing their team onto their kids, and it flowing through generations. Well sorry guys, my dad never supported Wests Tigers, and as such, I don't either. Why would the NRL kill teams off….. you cant make people change clubs overnight. That's why the NRL is dying. Tens of thousands supporters (Wests, Balmain, Norths, Illawarra etc) do not attend, or care about rugby league now. Who cares if young children will be heartbroken about the Wests Tigers dying. They will only have supported them for 5 - 13 years approx. What about us, who were supporters for anywhere from 30 - 80 years. NRL should have kept every club as it was, and created a second division with promotion and relegation. Everybody keeps their loyalty and tradition, and it creates excitement. Makes teams fight all season to stay in Division 1\. Parramatta can play woeful for 5 seasons straight, and we all know they will be back again next year. A-League has already taken over NRL, and will only get stronger.

you say who cares about the kids being heartbroken, what about the old guys…......wow. Well i care about the kids much more than old farts.....just saying

Each to their own, but its becoming evident many really havent accepted the JV

You think you have….until the REALLY tough times arrive

Sooooo true. After reading this and sister threads over a couple of days, little by little my fellow former tribe members posts have been dragging me back out along with the skeletons in our respective closets.

For those of you that are younger and only ever supported the JV, or only had a short fling with either partner of our marriage, please excuse us or at least try to understand. If you have a true passion for this club, imagine just how strong that it is within most of us others that have had it pulsing through our veins for several or more decades.

For some of us it is even worse when the team that you also had a soft spot for, and you were glad that if you had to share your bed with anyone, that it was them, can still muster what you thought was long gone fanaticism. Like it or not (even some of us that are afflicted don't), but birds of a feather flock together and/or you cannot change your stripes/spots.

Sigh.

Me too.

I find it a bit hard to chant 'Tigers' at games when the chant goes up….but in footy convo at work or wherever...theyre "The Tiges..." just rolls off the tongue easy....its what we are now

I only wear the Heritage Jerseys…. black and white, but with the current logo....

But I converted my Mrs from the Panthers and dont mind her being all WT, my son has loads of WT gear, even paid a mates daughter the best part of $300, $2 coin at a time to brainwash her into the fold, worked a charm...

Doesnt mean I dont support the JV though, I like seeing the Balmain guys there in their old colours/strips, I dont want anyone to forget where we came from, at the games when we are all cheering or cursing them out, the old allegiances disappear and we are all the same.... and thats ok by me.

100%!!!

I look forward to where we are going, but will not forget where we came from either.

I have my own family now, but I still keep in touch with my mum, dad and siblings too.

In reality there's nothing left to grasp from either side of the merger, apart from memories. Balmain is a middle class enclave, bathed in dress shops, expensive child care centres, cafes and theme pubs, while the Ashfield/Burwood corridor has been absorbed by Asian residential and commercial interests. While there's some spiritual connection with Leichhardt Oval, it's fanciful to believe that these suburbs maintain any sort of romantic connection to past footballing glories. The merger saved both identities from oblivion

Its one of my pet hates when we are referred to by both names, albeit in the media or by supporters. Just choose one or the other.

Yep,the Balmain basket Weavers have turned into the Gucci bag wearers, the JV is leaking badly but will survive in some form you would think but surely the future is Greater Western Sydney.

grew up following the magpies, but very happy to say that:
wests-tigers are my addiction.
I go thru all the emotions when watching them play and supporting them.

no matter how bad they play or frustrate the hell out of me.
the only time I will give up on them , is if they no longer exist.

95% of the posters on this forum are full of it and deep down haven't moved on. They say they only care about the best interests of Wests Tigers only but in reality they don't.
They will defend there previous dead club even if they are totally wrong and living in the past.

Just an observation. I find it quite ironic that you write about 95% of posters (assuming that you don't consider yourself to be one of them) not having moved on, yet accompanying every post of yours is a footer that also sends a somewhat similar message.

You have a special special category all of your own happy

I reckon 'acceptance' and the definition of it is different for everyone.

Some here make it obvious their prior allegiance (sigs, avatars, usernames) but that does not mean they havent accepted the JV.

Others its difficult to know if they had a prior allegiance….some do some dont

Others agian its clear theyve trouble separiting the past and present

And some are stuck firmly still in the 90s or earlier
