UPDATE: Jarryd Hayne will escape suspension after the Gold Coast’s superstar recruit was spotted touching a referee in his impressive NRL return.

Hayne’s first NRL game in 701 days ended with a 24-14 loss to the Warriors in front of 25,109 at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday.

Fox Sports’ dedicated “Hayne Cam” spotted the former Parramatta fullback making contact with referee Gavin Reynolds during the second half (watch the incident in the player above).

The match review committee will release its findings on Monday but The Courier-Mail understands Hayne will not be charged due to the contact being accidental.

If the judiciary is consistent he'll miss a week. It's a stupid situation however.

If Hayne goes Mitch will go too. He bumped into the ref trying to get into position after the intercept break early in the first half. I have no idea if it was visible on the broadcast but we were at the game and saw it clearly. Hopefully common sense will prevail. At least if Hayne is spared there will be a precedent to let Mitch off.

if moses gets suspended cant see us winning

Yeah I did notice that too. They didn't miss each other. Purely accidental. Referee was going forward and Moses was stepping back into position for the ball. Nothing should come of it. Looked like they just didn't notice each other until it was too late.

I just love it when the NRL puts themselves in these no win situations - honestly how some of these clowns have a job let alone running a multi million dollar organization is beyond me. Cant wait to see the NRL PR team in action.

Like all "crackdowns" it takes less than 6 months for a big player to be caught up ahead of a big game. Yet again the NRL have to decide between losing cred and cheapening a big game.

There were some ugly incidents, most notably with Graham and Klemmer who were both deservedly suspended. After that the NRL felt they had to 'crack down' on every accidental contact in the name of consistency.

It's nonsense, everyone knows if you get in a ref's face and shove him after the whistle blows you're getting a few weeks for it in any sport, and some codes serve up season or even life bans. I don't see why every bump has to go to match review just so the Bulldogs don't cry consistency when their moron forwards assault referees.
