HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

It doesnt need to be illegal. The license is a commercial contract which will have certain obligations that HBG need to maintain.

They've also obviously breached their fudiciary duty to act on behalf of HDB members too, so would run afoul of L&G. But I have no faith in a govt body. They don't want to create work for themselves.
I’m also pretty sure some poster identified the JV agreement stated ‘independent’ multiple times and a requirement for NRL approval to removal of independent directors 🤷

PVL won’t have any power here at the end of the day. The club doesn’t have to be independent, it is financially viable and HBG can guarantee its finances. PVL can see what happens if Richo goes club is a big draw card and it needs Richo at the helm.

I’d like to see a forced sale like they do in NFL and NBA. Wests MacArthur would be the obvious choice if they are interested. Would be identical scenario to Knights after Tinkler.
My thoughts too. He’s saying the right things to give us hope.

Just back from my short cruise today , left Thursday so no info since , what the hell has gone on since Thursday , my take
PVL says no Balmain No Wests will return to the NRL ,and if people think they will they are in for a shock.?
NRL launch investigation into Richo , some dirty board manger or other trying to back door him or has this got merit ,?
Richo could walk tomorrow .?
Ex Manly CEO and dud in the mix for our Richo position , was this guy any good at all , I only remember negative shit .?
Bulla on dogs radar 4 year deal , is this real , if so I think he goes .
Luai on shaky ground as well ?
Any other ear news , did people March today or is it next week, sorry for all the questions it just saves me reading heaps and falling asleep to much
Please don’t holiday again you’re the glue holding the board together.

There's too many pages to go through..
What were the NRL email addresses for ABDO and co ?

I added a little to the start of cochise's template:

To whom it may concern,

As a member of Wests Tigers, and only a fan of Wests Tigers, with no allegience to either foundation club, I’m writing to express my personal concern about the governance of the Wests Tigers. In my view, the influence of the debenture holders and HBG has been damaging to the club’s stability, progress, and long-term direction, harming members, supporters, and the reputation of the game.

I ask that the NRL review the situation and intervene with HBG before further harm is done to the club or the league.

Regards,

Suzie

They were appointed to the board because they were leaders in their field, you need more than just footy heads you need other skills for a superior board to tackle other issues.

It wouldn't be Wests Tigers being hammered with a lawsuit it would be HBG, that could turn out to be a good thing they might have to sell the Tigers to afford the lawsuit.
You are probably right... But I am not certain on if it would be HBG only.

Actually that's a complex legal question, their legal team may want to sue both the WT and HBG to get a bigger compensation pool. HBG fired them from the board, but does the Board take responsibility for their firing. I know it sounds simple, but legal. Could go complex.

Maybe Denis is even personally liable?

Richardson is expected to resign on Monday afternoon after addressing his staff, many of whom he had enticed to the club, although V’landys’s intervention at the 11th hour could change his mind.

“We are going to talk to both the independent directors and Holman Barnes,” V’landys said.

“We are certainly not happy with the instability this has caused.”
Love it that V'Landys has used the word "instability". Probably not enough reason alone to appoint administrators or cancel licences, but then he may only need to demonstrate that the HBG are not acting within the best interests of Wests Tigers, and that much is crystal clear.

It's entirely possible. If you look at how PVL runs the comp, it becomes pretty clear that his main priority is keeping the broadcasters and the first grade clubs happy. If the broadcasters are happy, the money keeps rolling, which funds the annual grant to franchise owners, which means they don't have to kick in their own cash. Everyone with any real power is thus content, PVL keeps his job and News Corp write him up like he's a genius.

Look at Las Vegas. This is a case of the NRL using its own money to lay on bonus content for the broadcasters and simultaneously give a big fat junket to cronies in the media, sponsors and others who are in some way important for the comp to keep on side. If the money to pay for that means the NRL underfunding, say, grassroots football in Queensland, well, those under 9s don't pony up millions in sponsorship dollars or decide whether this weeks coverage is going to be complimentary or critical of the NRL. Vegas, baby!

What that all means is that PVL has no incentive at all to rock the boat with submissive club management - unless it gets to the point where other clubs or the broadcasters care about it. Obviously some clubs are closer to the inner circle - ones owned by car sales billionaires, for instance - but if others are supine and hopeless, well, why would PVL care about that?

If the clowns in charge of the Tigers couldn't run a chook raffle and are obsessed with bringing back the Magpies, V'Landys cares about exactly one of those things: making sure the Magpies obsession doesn't make the aforementioned clowns start making waves. And, to be clear, making sure the Wests Tigers are perennially uncompetitive on the field categorically does not qualify as that. As I've said before, someone has to play the Knights mid-afternoon on Saturday in the undercard for the real teams.

I suspect the upshot of this will be absolutely no more than a few more box seats and VIP treatment at the Everest for the HBG directors and V'Landys suggesting they maybe tone it down a bit with the Magpies stuff.

Tl;dr: until someone comes in and buys the licence off HBG this isn't going to change. No external agent is going to come in and force HBG to run the joint professionally.
Well said.

There is one thing we are being lied to on though.

This isn't the old Balmain vs Magpies argument. This is about Campbelltown!
Denis is objecting to the Campbelltown/Leumeah stadium upgrade. He has thrown a furfee by commenting on the Jersey and the off-orange colour, so everyone is thinking Balmain vs Magpies.

Oh no no no. This is about Ashfield and the HBG empire, its Wests Ashfield.
He wanted the massive upgrades to Concord and he got it. Then we see a 50M upgrade to Campbelltown... Follow the money.

At least I can be thankful that Denis pulled this crap in December and not September.

It's actually in the main stream media about Richo over paying compies involving his son
