How are we going to attract decent players?

It's obvious that JT has no hope of getting through to them, whether that's because of the players or because of Taylors uninspiring personality, I don't know, but in all the time he's been here, I can't remember any one really inspiring interview that he's had.

It's always blaming others, making excuses and Trying to make a cow pat resemble a diamond. His selections have confused most here(at least until TT shone a bit of light on who has Entrenched themselves as JTs favourites, and why.
My opinion ( and that's all it is) is that this season has flew the coop already. Not because of a few losses, but because of the WAY that we lost. There has been NO improvement in this team at all. Spin it as much as you want, we're still a cow pat.

Leaving him in charge of this team just does more damage to the club and their chances of attracting any players.
We have the chance between now and the start of next season to start from scratch, as hardly anyone is signed past then. We do need to pay more than other clubs to convince anyone to come here.
Get rid of him now before we get any worse and install a caretaker coach until the end of this season. Then don't just accept someone's computer presentation for the job
Get the best bloke available have a word to Harry or Brydens , anyone and pay what we need to get a proven Coach. That should be our priority !!!!!!!!
As for the interim coach I don't care who it is, getPayten if we have too, (l couldn't care less if he white anted Potter or not, )at least well see if he can coach or not.

Make it clear he's an interim coach, but if he can get this rabble on track then keep him if not , he was only hired for the rest of this year anyway.
We can't afford to have JT run this club dawn any further. We're just about rock bottom
Now.
He has no ability to get through to this team .
Unfortunately we have no choice to keep the halves ( if that's what they decide ). at a grossly inflated value for next year( thanks to some dumb twit who signed their contracts with an option in their favour), but we can get rid of a lot of the once a month performers and replace them with some players who want to put in a genuine effort.
We're not going to be top four prospects for a long while , but surely we can find some players who will put in an effort every week
Or we can sit back and accept the garbage that this club is renowned for.

All well and good..I'm now not fussed if Taylor sees out his contrat…but I do have a couple of questions....this mediocrity you speak of has been around long before Taylor got here...

What makes you think a change in Coach will make much of a difference...? Even if you throw massive $$$ to attrack a decent Coach as you say what if the players don't like him either..?

What you say hurts but it is also what i feel.I doubt there is any possibility of us improving as things stand now.We need a clean out from top to bottom and in one way we are lucky because many contracts end at the same time.Only keep players that have reached an acceptable standard pay the ones we keep a realistic price and punt the rest.We have a number of overpaid players some young and some veteran and a new broom is required. As far as a coach is concerned cleary or toovey would be ideal. If we lose a dozen or more contracted players but keep the ones we need it will be a base for the future.Changes need to be made and quickly.

Well that is a rant and a half.

2 points. I dispute that Taylor has been blaming others all the time - he did say he inherited a basket case. Was he wrong? and he mentioned for the first time after this game that some of the players need to toughen up and have a good look at themselves. Wouldn't say that rave wasn't overdue, would you?

I fail to see how Teddy, Nofo, Kev, Moses, Grant, Woods, Farah and Lawrence at least do not put in every week and that is nearly half the team.

Understand when people get wound up they blame everybody in sight but I think there are some that need to be excluded. Maybe the others need to be put on notice but apart from Milone I thought they all put in - whether they are good enough is another question.

As for an interim coach - would they be any better? How long for them to get the hang of the team? Until the end of the season maybe. Would they have the same restrictions as JT? Would they be a white anter? (May not matter to you but it matters to a lot of others - Potter is twice the man as the white anters). Payton, you would be joking! Although I am sure O'Neill would be up for starting the Boys club again.

Further points on Taylor - did we hire him because he should be good at press conferences, eloquent, say player A is hopeless, our game plan was pitiful and we should not have targeted player Z in the opposition etc.
No we did not.
What we did wrong, what we should have done, player D, X and B skyrocket to them etc. Save that for the boys at training ( is this not happening, does anyone know for a fact) where it should be said, not to the press to appease a few disgruntled fans.

Some are saying he should have got stuck into the referees - possibly he should but who is going to pay the $10,000 fine - not them I'll bet.

You make some good points GCT but are wide of the mark in others - imo of course.

People want Cleary ??

Why would you get Cleary when you could possibly get Toovey ??

I agree. He brings a mental toughness and a winning culture. He may be too tough for our darlings though.

I love this club with a passion but the honest truth is we will (as with most other Sydney clubs) be a second tier team indefinitely despite our coach, juniors and fans.

Unless you are team with oodles of money or a team with a hundred kilometre+ mote or a thousand in the case of the Cowboys and Melbourne, it is always going to be a struggle to attract corporate dollars and in turn players.

If the club is serious about being a success, negotiate big dollars from the NRL to move out of Sydney (I am thinking Perth) and we will be the next Sydney Swans.

There will be still be 8 or so teams in Sydney which means Sydney fans can watch live away games as well as cameo game at LO or Campbelltown whilst we develop a team with the biggest RL mote surrounding it and develop the mining corporate dollar.

As Al Pacino once said, first you need the money and with the money you get the power and with the power you get the Premiership.

Rant over…

I reckon our training facilities need to be sorted asap.

Imagine your have 2 job offers, the money is the same but one is in a new building with modern equipment. The other is in a run down building where you dont have half the equipment you need. It's a no brainer isn't it?

Why all the sympathy for the players? Fair enough, I take on board JT is not doing anywhere near the job that is required, but how about they take their share of the blame too? Remember the story of then singing songs about Taylor on Mad Monday? You might think it's hilarious because it's aimed at JT, but what it tells me is that they are a bunch of petulant brats. They also dogged it under Potter which is why part of me had no sympathy for then last yr if they were unhappy with how they were being told to play. You made your bed boys. Potter had this team heading in the right direction then they threw him under the bus. So sure, sack Taylor, but it's about time people who think the only issue in the club is JT start to smell the coffee. You'd find more maturity in a day care centre than our dressing room.

Well written CGT. My first thought when the rumour surfaced of E Taylor coming to the WTs is his close links to Ivan Cleary.

Same here, if we sign ET don't be surprised if Cleary is unveiled within a few weeks.

Your definetly right about the mediocrity bit Geo, it's ingrained,
That's why everything needs to be overhauled, starting from the top. It would cost a heap to get a Top level coach. Sheens had his problems the longer he was here, but since then we have had two extremely weaker Coaches, with a soft attitude towards discipline. I'm not talking just about Coaching, but their personalities and management skills were weak. , maybe nice people, but not the type to put people in their place, maybe too nice.
Players now, especially the younger ones( not just ours)( and not just the halves) want it all now, and when they know that the club/ Coach is too weak to let them know that half an effort is not acceptable, and their position is safe no matter what happens, they know that they can run their own race.
Being dropped when it warrants it., especially early in their career, can be a wake up call, that not many of our stars have had, but some have needed.
It will take someone who will come in here and show that if they don't do as they were told, they'll be in the reserves, or more,
yep we may lose games because of that attitude, but when these players realise that they'll play out the year there( if needed).
Then they may wake up.

The alternative is to keep going the way we have been. But I think that the number of fans that do want that, is rapidly dwindling

What i mean is Cleary is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Step One - Find a decent coach players want to play under

Step Two - Pay them decent coin with performance base incentives

Step Three - Give them Meriton apartment in Sydney

What proof do you have of this? He's not even employed to the club lol.

Think about what you are saying. JT is going to sign ET for his soon to be successor. Or will Cleary make the signing? Either option does not make sense.

" New coach", "new coach" a lot of you scream, but fail to name one that would be any better!

Cleary and Toovey have been mentioned. Would they be any better? Maybe, maybe not. They are unemployed for a reason.

I agree that Taylor's selections are very puzzling, however, I really think that they are to do with the second tier salary cap nonsense.

A very big cleanout of players is needed at the end of this season. That includes Moses and Brooks, especially if they each want $600k each. No way are they worth that much. Farah to England or anywhere else.

The club have bought players such as Griffin, JAC, MCC, Littlejohn, the rugby boy and then do not play them. There MUST be a reason for that.

As for the move to Perth, not a bad idea. One team town, big bucks from mining and the NRL, big increase in fans and members, similar name eg. The Weststigers, etc, etc. No bad thing.

But you have agreed that only half put in a complete effort every week, I'd agree with that and would only disagree about Moses, II wouldn't keep him at 600,000, but if no one buys him that's what we are stuck with.
The interim coach is purely to get through the year and try and minimise the damage that's been caused. Hopefully he might be able to stop the slide, if not he's gone at the end of the year anyway
The main thing is that the team needs to get away from the Favourites rule system that is JTs method of operating
I don't care if he got into the Refs or not. That's a small part of our problems
Yes he did inherit a basket case, but so has every Coach since Sheens. The hard facts are that neither of those Coaches made any difference, and no other coach on training wheels will either .
Its not going to be easy to change this club , but until hey start we'l stay the same. And it
Startsbatbthe Coach.
